SORRY FOR THE HUGE WALL OF TEXT. Don't read it if you don't want to. If you are smart and want to gain another point of view on the situation, feel free to read it all. I would hope that all guardians that want to trash talk read this beforehand. I want logical arguements, not stupid, meaningless name calling.
Before I start this, I would like to clarify that I have every exotic weapon in the game (INCLUDING GJALLARHORN) available on xbox. I have used every weapon and can say that icebreaker is my favorite.
I am sick of gjallarhorn elitists on here thinking that they are so much better than everyone else. They kick players out of groups and tease them about it. It really isn't funny or cool. For all of you special snowflakes out there who don't want other people to have what you have, get a grip.
Gjallarhorn isn't as OP as people say it is (for pve it's good but not godly, for pvp truth beats it by a longshot[better tracking+bigger blast radius]). Gjallarhorn only gets targets down really fast on a solar burn nightfall. Other than that, it really doesnt melt bosses as fast as people say it does. Truth is a very close second to gjallarhorn. Its tracking is much better and the damage is fairly close to gjallarhorn's. "Oh but Wolfpack rounds are sooooo goood!" Yes, they do a lot of damage. However, Truth or Hunger of Crota can pretty much do any job that the Gjallarhorn can (eliminate the target). Personally, I am fine with doing the strike for 2 minutes more if I'm not using gjally (it doesn't really make much more of a difference than that). If I don't have it on me in a strike, I'm not going to switch it onto my character with the app. It's not worth it. It's not necessary.
Gjallarhorn is situational as hell. You use it for bosses, and even then you can only use it when you have heavy. To get heavy, you have to get lucky and find it or spend 30 minites on a weekly heroic strike to get strange coins to buy heavy. People say that you can run a whole strike with Gjallarhorn. Sure it is possible, but what kind of moron would do that? It would be more challenging to deal with the reload and finding heavy than just doing the strike normally.

Now on to the common complaints about Xur selling Gjallarhorn.
1) "Everyone will have it so it won't be as awesome!"
You special snowflakes out there need to think about how childish you are acting. It is a gun in a videogame. Who cares if you have something? No one. Everyone bought this game and has the right to enjoy it. If this means getting gjallarhorn, then everyone has the right to have a fair chance at getting it.
2) "It's going to get nerfed!"
Come on guys, really? Bungie nerfs guns because of pvp, not pve! Gjally is good for pve, not pvp! Duh!! Vex mythoclast was nerfed because people were complaining about getting killed super fast by it. Soon enough, felwinter's lie and the last word will also be nerfed! When people complain, Bungie feels the need to interfere. So why doesn't Bungie nerf guns for pve? BECAUSE THE ENEMIES ARE FREAKING COMPUTER GENERATED! THEY DON'T COMPLAIN! Why is this so difficult to understand?? Therefore, Bungie doesn't feel the need to nerf guns for pve. Also, I don't hear any of us complaining that it is too op in pve. Hmmm I wonder why... oh yea, it is because people like it the way it is! Get it through your head; BUNGIE ONLY NERFS GUNS FOR PVP.
EDIT: People are mentioning the AR nerf. If you were keeping up to date on all of those articles, they nerfed ARs in pve and pvp only to make more people use pulse rifles. That's why they had all of those graphs. It was NOT because ARS were OP in pve. They never were. Imo hand cannons have always been superior in pve. Anyways, the point is that guns aren't nerfed in pve because they are OP.
3) "Xurners didn't earn their gjallarhorns!"
Again with this special snowflake bullshit.
Earn=work
Luck=luck, not work
People who buy guns from xur actually earn them, because they did work to get those strange coins. People who get lucky didn't earn it at all. THEY JUST GOT LUCKY! "But you have to do a raid to have that chance, so you are working." Not all the time! My friend asked if I could give him the gorgons cp. He was a level 23 and had no experience. You know what I watched him get? GJALLARHORN! It pissed me off and it would do the same to any of you. Xurners are earners, most of us, INCLUDING MYSELF, got lucky enough to get gjallarhorn. Also, what about all of those poor souls out there who have put 500+ hours into this game, AND STILL HAVE'NT GOTTEN GALLY?? Don't they deserve it? Everyone should have a chance to get it. I got lucky enough to get mine at 520 hours, but many people aren't as lucky. They deserve gjallarhorn. By the way, gjally isn't off Xur's loot table. He will sell it, and when he does, I will be there to congratulate all of my friends who bought (EARNED) it.
4) "It is going to break crucible!"
You guys obviously haven't experienced the might of truth. It is a force greater than gjallarhon (pvp). With its superior tracking (I have seen it wrap around walls) and it's huge blast radius (wipe out several enemies at once), gjallarhorn cannot compare. "But Wolfpack is so op!" Not in crucible. Many of them run into walls or the floor and don't hit the enemy. I have survived Wolfpack from gjallarhorn many times. Besides, they don't do nearly as much damage in pvp as they do in pve. The masses of people who do try it in crucible if xur sells it will be disappointed, and will switch out that exotic for something much more useful (truth, the last word, thorn, etc.).
5) "Everything will be so easy!"
Why is this even a complaint? Isn't it better to get things done faster? Nuff said there.
EDIT: Some people are saying that it would make crota too easy and that you like a challenge. All it does is help to ensure that crota goes down. Do you guys enjoy wiping or something? Is that your idea of a challenge? A world where crota doesn't always go down seems more annoying than challenging.

Also, for the next raid, who knows what will be a key weapon. For atheon cp, it was icebreaker (to all of those who say "but gally downs atheon is 17 seconds!" please be more realistic. You know you don't do this every time you fight atheon). For crota cp, it was gjallarhorn. For the next raid, who knows what will be good! I personally think that it will be thunderlord. Fallen tend to have arc shields, and everyone knows that one of the best arc weapons is thunderlord.
EDIT: A lot of people are saying that buying guns from xur isn't as exciting as getting it as a drop. If you are one of these people, then don't buy gjallarhorn from xur when he sells it! Buying guns is a CHOICE! If you prefer waiting to get lucky enough to get it as a drop instead of having a guaranteed way of getting it, go right ahead and do that. However, this is no reason to not want xur to sell it.
EDIT: People are saying that Xur isn't random so they are keeping him from selling ghorn. He definitely is. They randomized it before the game released and planned xur to sell those guns in the order they appeared after being randomized. After megaman figured out the plan, they had to randomize it again. Ghorn is still in his loot table and will be sold.
The gjallarhorny fools out there are just going through a phase. It will be over soon enough. Xur should and will sell Gjallarhorn eventually. Try not to cry too hard guardians.
TL;DR- Xur will and should sell Gjallarhorn. It is not OP in pve, it is beat out by truth in pvp, it will not be nerfed if it is sold by Xur, people who buy it from Xur will have earned it, and the special snowflakes out there need to get a grip.

Translation: hear ye hear ye, I have a Gjallarhorn

Edited by NaCl: 4/15/2015 4:41:40 AMSo many people would be mad cause they spent months and months to get that weapon meanwhile someone fresh out of GameStop can get it in a second...

DeeJ, please read this forum post! This man deserves a community focus! And DeeJ if you are reading, please have Xur sell Gjallahorn to rub it in those Special Snowflakes faces!

Where is #satire

Gjally was bungies gift to people who committed to the game in the first 2 weeks, since only the people who dedicated a lot of time had the coins to buy it. I think it's reasonable for them to not sell it again, since all of the content is doable without it.
-
I agree. I'm also hoping Xur has Icebreaker again soon. I am kicking myself for not buying it last time. I am nowhere near a day one player, I just got over level 30 a few weeks ago, and then got a second character to level 20 (thus whatever level my main character is at) about two weeks ago. In fact, my second character didn't have his final subclass ability (Gift of the Sun) until last night. That's the long way of saying, until recently I was always short of strange coins, and last time Xur had Icebreaker, I had 14 strange coins after doing the weekly on level 30 ... I spent hours doing strikes hoping to get the coins I needed but finally gave up Saturday night. No Icebreaker for me! In fact, that is the reason I created a second character, to make sure I wouldn't be in that position next time a must-have weapon was for sale. I think it's fair to reserve some things for raids only, but I think Bungie is a little too far in that direction right now. The main barrier to raiding (t least it seems to me) isn't the difficulty of the raid itself, it is the annoyance of finding five players to raid with. I have decided I'll join a clan so I can do it, but I think Bungie isn't doing themselves any favors by making 95%+ of the game's players feel like they are on the outside looking in.

I think it would be good. Looking at it from a time played standpoint especially. If you have a Ghorn it doesn't make you elite, it makes you lucky, and if you have 10, it means something isn't quite right with the Destiny drop algorithm perhaps. There are multitudes who have put in just as many hours into Destiny as those who have had the Ghorn drop, and in some cases many more gaming hours and still no Ghorn. I was doing a Nightfall a few weeks back with my youngest son, just the two of us and we were just about finished when my oldest son was able to join. We finished it, he was in there so short of a time that he got one kill. And I know you know where I'm going here... Yep, he ended up getting a Ghorn for all his 1 minute of efforts. I was happy for him but sad for my youngest son and a liitle for myself, for putting in most of the work for shards. <sigh> Try try again and again and...
-
I kinda agree with this other than, if he sells it then you will see a ton of little kids thinking they are so good because they have it. Which will be so annoying
-
Overall I agree with this post. I also believe that selling the Gally will be one of the few ways to keep players interested and engaged until this Fall.
-
VERY LOGICAL POST. I am one of those people who 'earned' a Ghorn off a Gorgon CP, yet people who commit hours and days helping others through NF, Raids, etc can't get it to drop for them. As I always state, the only gun that is truly earned in this game is Thorn. That's it. Even having a gally, I hope Xur brings it for everyone because it just is a good tool to have in your arsenal and why shouldn't everyone have one? I'd rather the community have every opportunity to have as many good guns as possible. Then when you're running these strikes, raids, NF's, etc the team as a whole benefits.
-
I just got Gjally after 1,000 hours. Keep grinding!!
-
Agreed. I have damn near 500 hours in, and no Gally. Just in the last 24 hours and 6 raids. Gally has dropped 4 times. Not for me tho. Also Truth has dropped 3 times. Again... Not for me. One guy in our raid got Gally AND truth in the same damn raid! It's all about luck. Some people have it, some people don't. I do not, so I'll keep stacking strange coins til Xur sells it...
-
Xur should just sell it one last time FOREVER
-
-
Edited by Aklas Zephyr: 4/15/2015 8:55:54 AMI agree that in some point in time xur should sell Gally, but some of what you said I'm kinda not with completely. Just because RnG works in some people's favor for doing nothing doesn't mean the rest of the team wasn't working hard. If I worked hard to get a shot at getting something then I worked for it. I work for my strange coins too, so if xur sells anything I don't have I'm going to buy it. I'd be cool if he sold it before our supposed raid comes out for HoW so everyone would be ready like he did before with IB. So I have no problem if he sells it or not,but some people just are waiting for him to sell it instead of working hard to earn a shot at getting......Have a good day!
-
It is OP.. But I wouldn't mind if he sells it. I was lucky and got mine with 96h, there are people who deserve it more than me.
-
That's ok. The truth would be the next rarest rocket launcher then. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I recently got mine...I was happy, but I didn't hate the game prior to having it. I will say that yes it's situational, therefore not making it the best exotic in the game. I will also say that in the situations you use it...it's so powerful it actually makes me laugh.
-
You could say whatever you like and all, but in PvE truth is nothing like the gally...its like 2 to 1
-
Didn't read word at all
-
I read about a paragraph and Idk if u have one or not but it's actually better than all the rockets out right now. Yes some have a better blast rate or velocity or some other shit but it still does more damage than any other rocket. Those wolf pack rounds are no joke
-
If xur were to sell gjallahorn, u will see tons of kids using that in crucible thinking they are good
-
Dude you sound like a little kid who will cry if xur doesn't have ghorn if he has it then cool. If he doesn't owell Im fine with using truth or the prestegive IV
-
Thank you for this. I should copy and paste this for future use because I swear I'm making this argument all the time. It is annoying to put hundreds of hours into this game and not have it drop.
