Yeah I agree with you. The range nerf was understandable, but they definitely should have left the damage the same. In pve, I actually thought that some autos needed a buff even before the 1.1.1 patch.
If they kept the range where it is now, and put the dmg back to where it was I think all the weapon classes would be pretty well "balanced" now.

Yes. And possibly increase the crit multplier back to 1.5(from 1.25) in PvE only. Which was putted in place a long time ago.

That would be really nice. I think that increased crit multiplier would compensate for the decreased range
