I have a question about Halo 3's opener. In Halo 2 it ended with chief on Keyship, but In 3 he crash landed in the jungle. How did that happen?

As he fought his way through the Keyship in an effort to reach the Prophet of Truth, the Master Chief was overwhelmed by Covenant forces, and he had no choice but to abandon ship as the Keyship made landfall.

He jumped off of the dreadnought in order to make it to Earth in time. He rode a piece of metal from the ship to the surface from orbit, and his crash site is where halo 3 begins.

Wait is it a dead naught or Keyship? And what is the difference

The Covenant calls it a Dreadnought because it's the most powerful ship around, however by Forerunner standards it was merely a Lifeworker vessel meant for ferrying catalogued species around and opening portals - a Keyship.
