If you have the time to waste, here's a short conversation I wrote for absolutely no reason. It tells at least a short portion of a story. A probably poorly done story since i've never really written dialogue before, but a story nonetheless. Hope at least one of you gets a kick out of it. I also apologize for the formatting, it looked a lot better in Microsoft Word. I suppose copy/paste doesn't quite carry over everything. Goodnight, everyone.
“You can’t go on like this…” I heard, in a distant yet familiar voice.
“I have so far…evidently I can.” I replied, as I gazed up at the dark sky, my back soaked by the wet earth and grass beneath it.
“You haven’t been going on, you haven’t moved in days…all you’ve done is lie down out here in the pouring rain! You should be thankful it’s lightened up!"
“What can I say? It’s cozy here…why would I care to go anywhere else?” I said, followed by a faint laugh.
“This isn’t funny…” The response came with a slight cold breeze, and momentary silence. “I don’t want to have to see you torture yourself like this, you shouldn’t be here. You…you should’ve moved on!” Her last words were choked out as she tried to retain her composure.
“You never were good at hiding what you felt…you do know that, right?” A few more weak laughs ensued, but no such sounds were returned. “I’m sorry, I just…I don’t know what else to do.”
“Of course you don’t…you always found a way to laugh about everything.” Her tone had changed, becoming more somber.
“Different people handle things different ways…” I said as I propped myself up, placing the open waters in my view. “This is how I’ve always done it, and I can’t see myself doing it differently.” My eyes drifted downward as my legs dangled over the ledge.
“I suppose spending so much time here is another way…but you shouldn’t ignore your health just for this.”
“It’s my choice. Even if it isn’t the best one, it’s still my-”
“Then make the right one.” She said, cutting my sentence short as I felt a cold hand touch my shoulder. “Please…just go home.”
“But…I want to be here…with…” I went to place my hand over hers, but in that instant there was nothing. I quickly turned to look to where I heard the voice, but saw nothing…nothing more than the old tree, and grave that sat beneath it. I let out a deep sigh, before turning my gaze back to the jagged shore beneath where I sat.
“Just another dream…” I sat up, and began the long walk home. It felt like only yesterday we were there together. I would look out toward the horizon and promise her the world. “But…I couldn’t even be there when she needed me…” I said as I turned to take one last long look at where I sat only moments before. I thought I caught a glimpse of her again, but it disappeared with the breeze. “Just…another dream.” I muttered, returning to my path.
“Just another dream…”
*slow clap* The feels man. I like it. Your dialogue is good btw. Nice to see a bit of fiction not full of barely disguised teen thirst. I'd like to see more of you get time between Indie and RL commitments.
