Please Dinktana (see what I did there?), tell me more...
Ok, so I reached 32 on my Hunter a long while ago and am trying to finish up getting my Warlock and Titan from 31 to 32 as well. As you all know, that means I'm all done using my Ascendant Shards because the only armor that will get me to 32 is the single set of Crota armor for the given classes (plus an exotic if I want that in the mix, which I usually do). I mean, I still use Ascendant Energy because all Vanguard weapons need it, and anything I may use from VoG (VoG has another sticking point I'll explore in a sec, too) also needs it. There are a lot more weapons out there to use the Ascendant Energy on than there are useful pieces of armor for Ascendant Shards, but that may run out at some point, too. What sucks is I know that virtually EVERYONE that hits that 31-32 stride is in the same exact position as I am.
So if the Bungie folks ever read this post (or similar ones) I would like to suggest something that you have already done in one fashion. Eris Morn allows us to exchange Radiant Shards for Radiant Energy, and vice versa. So why can't we do the same with Ascendant level materials?? Let our Vanguard Mentors standing at that long table all day take our unneeded materials and give us something useful. ALSO, maybe let us turn Ascendant material into Radiant material by spending a little extra. I mean, of course people would need to reach a certain Vanguard rank for exchanging like types, similar to how Eris requires us to be level 4 for her exchanges. But why not make it so rank 5 Eris would allow an upgrade on the materials?
Ultimately, if Ascendant materials doesn't gain a sense of relevance again, then they are going to be consuming space for no good reason. They already take a much coveted space on the RNG counter when I turn in Legendary Engrams (almost always turns into materials and not the weapon/armor it's for) or as a reward for Nightfalls & VoG instead of something actually rewarding like weapons/armor or heck, even a sparrow. Though, it would be nice if we got something back for breaking down sparrows, ships and shaders that we get en mass (hint hint). Another point, why hasn't Radiant Materials entered the RNG realm for strikes/nightfalls/public events/daily heroics and such? I mean, when VoG was the only raid, we could get materials for our gear in many ways. But with The Dark Below, Radiant Materials were stashed away in the Hellmouth of the Moon alone. What gives?
On the VoG note, I am really really hoping that with the next update or DLC we get the option to boost our VoG weapons at least to 331 Attack, because they have mostly fallen into disfavor among regular players. Crota is easier than VoG by far (most people seem to agree) but has better rewards. So please Bungie, make VoG stuff worth getting/keeping.
I know House of Wolves is coming with new stuff and you are finally increasing Vault space (at least a little bit), so I'm holding my breath hoping this breaths some new life into the game. I know there are lots of things in the works and you guys haven't revealed any (repeat ANY) details to get us excited for the HoW download because you want to blow us out of the water in one fell blow. But if you can do anything to help with making Radiant materials more obtainable and making Ascendant shards more useful than a placeholder in my vault space, it would be greatly appreciated.
