Subject: Paper Nautilus Chapbook Contests: accepting manuscripts through May 15, 2015

Dear Friends:
I hope this message finds you well, with it or more less fully feeling like Spring wherever you are. At Paper Nautilus, we try to limit our emails to just one each year, because we don't want to pester you with every little update. (And if you'd like to be kept better in the loop, you can always find out more on our website, Facebook, and Twitter.)
Each year, we run the Vella Chapbook Contest, open to poetry, prose, and mixed- or hybrid-genre work. Manuscripts should be unpublished, 16 - 24 pages in length (exclusive of front matter), and should stun us with their moving, skillful work: those are really the only criteria. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, and the winner receives 100 perfect-bound copies with ISBN, and 10% royalties. $11 fee goes straight into the production of the books and supporting the press; if the contest is especially successful, we simply publish as many collections as can be supported by the funds we raised. Past winners include Allie Marini Batts, Stephanie McCarley Dugger, Pamela Gross, Johnathan Harper, Oriana Ivy, and Jason McCall.
This year, we're also introducing the Debut Series Chapbook Contest. The same guidelines and criteria apply as above, but we are only accepting manuscripts from writers who have yet to publish any chapbook- or book-length collections. Winner receives 50 hand-stitched copies (no ISBN,) and 10% royalties. $5 fee, or $8 with a free back issue (i.e., free entry with the purchase of a back issue). We are committed to supporting emerging writers, and this is our newest venture to expand that support!
Both contests close on May 15th, 2015. No pre-sale or purchase requirements or pressure! We recognize that not every writer desires to also be a salesperson, or has the luxury to plan a book tour, do signings, etc. We are happy to help promote your events if you chose to organize them, but sometimes the joy of being published is simply having your work out in the world, rather than trying to earn money from it; we respect whatever position our authors take on the matter.
We will also have a presence at the 2015 AWP bookfair this year, to be held in Minneapolis from April 8 - 11th. If you are also planning to attend, please stop by and visit us at Table 430 - we would love to meet you!
And if you feel so inclined, please share this news with your various writing circles and communities: the more writers we reach, the more writers whose work we can help support.
Thanks very much,
Lisa Mangini
