So I was rummaging through my vault the other day and came across an old friend: my trusty old Vanquisher IV.
I dusted it off and decided to carry it into the Crucible, just for old time's sake. I expected it to be an uphill fight, but I actually did alright with it. By maintaining a close ranged stream of headshots, I was able to do pretty well.
However, I did not see any other ARs in there. I normally run with Bad Juju, and while I did well enough with the Vanquisher, I certainly noticed a longer time to kill with the AR.
Anyway, I am wondering are there any guardians that still carry and rely on an AR as a standard piece of their arsenal? Or has the AR nerf made them (at least for the time being) extinct?

I mostly play PvE, but AR's are still my weapon of choice. They can nerf it to where it shoots foam balls and I'm still going to use it. Can't force me to use guns I don't like. Why don't they get it.
-
Suros, Vanquisher, shadow price, grim citizen, up for anything are all still good, it's the very high ROF almost no impact rifles that are crap.
-
Restore AR back!
-
I was thinking of running mine through crucible. I found what was even more hilarious was you see the occasional auto rifle but you really don't see scout rifles running around. I played several rounds and was the only one. If you know what you are doing, you can still wreck crucible with a scout rifle.

I wouldn't say extinct more like dormant
-
As of now I'd say endangered. I approve of the way bungie adjusted the way autos shoot but the damage reduction is too much.

Edited by Kone19ps: 4/30/2015 8:19:38 PMI have a few still but they are too much of a chore to do well with for me to use them anymore. I prefer scouts and handcannons though so I prefer range. I mainly don't use them because unless you are hitting all those headshots it's very difficult to even take out what they are meant to at close range. Most shotguns will close the distance first and the other weapons will outgun you and are much more forgiving to use

Use suros n get headshots anything with good imapct
-
Khvostov is still good.
-
I use an auto rifle but after the patch they can't compete with other guns like thorn and last word witch alot of people use.
-
Well. The last nerf hit autorifles like a asteroid Like the one that wiped out the Dinosaurs. Only time will tell what AR will surive this crisis. The longer the buff stays out the more will dismantled before even given a spin.
-
I stopped using all of mine in both PVE an PvP. Time to kill is just too slow now. Are they still usable? Sure. If u face anyone with skill though with any other weapon type even if every one of your rounds is a critical u are going to lose. The only way u win is if they miss. So if you're looking for the challenge, after running your no land beyond, switch to your auto rifle. Same thing.
-
No I still use them. Even though they re weaker than before got to accustomed to using them.
-
For the People and Hard Light
-
I accually still use my "Up for anything" alot in Crucible. It doesn't do the best damage but the rof is solid and with the right spec it has max stabillity. It's accually quite fun since you can spray full auto and still the gun barely move! :)
-
I recently got suros, so ive been taking that out for a spin. Hardlight isnt too bad on mid size maps either
-
I use the Shadow Price, Grim Citizen, Vanquisher , For the People, and Up for anything. I know the pulse rifles are beast now, but I get bored using the same weapon over and over. The Bad JuJu is a beast lol. I have one but don't use it in the crucible, I use a lot of scout rifles in crucible. You are right the Auto Rifle is very seldom used online now. I still use it because I like to be different to a degree. I don't like using the most OP weapon. I like to challenge myself. Sometimes I may use the Red Death, but very seldom. I own other AR , but don't use them online much. Like the Suros, Hardlight, and DO Gooder. It would be nice if the AR got the 2% taken away back. Im cool with the range adjustment, but wish they left the damage the way it was prior to the patch.
-
but I actually did alright with it
looks at stats... Oh we have a different meaning of alright as it pertains to crucible performance. Trust me man bring that vanquisher into a match of 1%ers and you'll never use it competitively again
-
Yes unless bungie fixes them my suros went from doing 50 damage a critical to 30 for a critical bungie how is that only 2.5 percent you liars
-
I hear they still exist but nobody uses them like shotguns i may be guessing here but perhaps we will see a 100% buff since nobody is using then any more.
-
The game is extinct.
-
I'm sure we have not seen the last of weapon tweaks in destiny. Hold on to your weapons if you have the vault space and I'm sure they will become relevant again
-
I still use monte carlo for my last resort in crucible lol
-
I still use my For the People in Crucible. I compliment it with the Pocket Infinity. I use the Pocket for close range and FTP for medium. As long as you are landing headshots it is still viable, but you can get easily outgunned by other weapon classes even if you shoot first. I wish they would help the AR's, but I doubt they will. In the end I'm just most comfortable using them despite the damage reduction. I've adjusted my style of play a little, and I do okay post nerf.
-
I would like to see the new numbers of how many people are using auto rifles now. I still see Suros Regime being used but not a lot of others. Mostly pulse rifles, hand cannons and shotguns.
-
I love my monte carlo. People think I'm crazy. I love that gun. I have quite a bit of success with it too. All weapons are like tools. Some are easier for everyone to use. Some are specialty tools that are effective in the right hands.
