I always had the impression, the classes are not well balanced and therefore I went to destinytracker.com and did some research.
I evaluated several Top-100 rank lists (score, K/D etc.) on their site across all platforms and statistically counted the occuring classes.
This is the result as a distribution of classes among the Top 100 lists:
63% - Hunters
23% - Titans
14% - Warlocks
This leaves two conclusions:
1. Good players play Hunters.
2. Hunters are the most powerful class concerning the Crucible.
Personally I doubt 1, at least in with this numbers. Hunters are the most played class, but the distribution in pure played classes is somehow like 38:31:31 (H:T:W).
How would you interpret these numbers?
edit: It's typical for these forums, how you get attacked and flamed if you open hypothesis like this.
Don't get me wrong, kids, I'm not calling for a nerf or anything. I just want to discuss the numbers.
And I expect Bungie to do a decent retrospective in the classes balance!
edit2: It's interesting to see, how nobody seems to care about this thread but the the Hunter fanboys, who solely come in to cry and tell me to stop crying and to stop to critic their beloved Hunter.
This community is really immature and childish.
edit3: A lot of people start to argue with class skills or player skills, but can we please reduce to the numbers I posted and you can try explaining them?

Hunters are made to kill. Titans are made to defend and support. Warlocks are made to wear dresses.
-
Popular class ≠ overpowered class
-
These stats don't rly reveal anything. I bet 60% or more of players use hunters as a main in PvP. What you really would want to see is the average and/or median K/D for each class. I bet hunters will be higher than everyone else, but I doubt it would be that drastic.
-
If you cant beat them join them PS: hunters are not OP
-
My schools made up of 90% white people, they must be the smartest.
-
Clearly not enough people have discovered the glory of a Titans defender bubble.
-
Titans are the most op class because of shoulder charge one shots anyone and theres almost no cool down
-
Can you find the stats before TDB please

Hunters have the best super for pvp... but they have the worst grenades and are the worst for close quarters combat (no overshield). This balances things out. However they are the worst character for pve. Killing oracles and holding the sword are their only real upside. Golden gun needs a pve buff and the bladedancer super is almost unusable in nightfall and the raids. I personally made a hunter for pvp alone but then found that my k/d is the same for all classes. And before you look... I know my k/d is not that great.
-
Honestly I just think hunters are the easiest of the 3 to adapt to especially for pvp. They're the only class that has a regular jump, they have a bit of area denial, a regular "frag" grenade and overall are the fastest class with probably the best PvP super. As for me personally i think the QuickDraw perk on bladedancer is the game winner for me. I rely heavily on getting the first shot and I switch between my primary and secondary ALOT. I'm not allowed to do these things on my Titan or lock because the ADS is slowed and the time to switch takes too long.

Edited by Kage Goomba: 4/1/2015 10:23:43 AM76% of statistics are made up on the spot.
I pitty da foo
EDIT: OP confirms stats are fake.

Hunters are only good against terrible players... U can't kill a bladedancer? U deserve to die. Can't run away from them? U deserve to die... try using a warlock with radiant skin... one hit melee wit over shield and a bunch of grenades makes a walking tank...
-
The Hunters supers are very personal. He shot or knifed you. Everything else targets the ground and whatever happens to be there will die. Hunters have blink, invisible, headshot gunning perks, trip mines, flaming throwing knives, targeting thunder bolt grenades. In a hunt and hunted game type like pvp it's obvious they stand out the most.
-
Hunter class is op, take it from somebody with 10k kills with each class in crucible.
-
Hunters have two offensive pvp classes that net you the highest kills in crucible. They are the easiest to achieve a better k/d with that's why they are overused.
-
Stop whining dude
-
The thing is the hunters just have more kill potential, and are easy to use. Just because people use a lot of them doesn't mean they are OP. Grant it the arc blade is to strong for most people's taste, but either way you could have the most OP set up but if you have the right team and are stratigic then you can win. It's not so much as the weapons and gear, it's the players that make games.
-
Hunter's are fine. Most good players use them because the supers are high risk high reward and more importantly their movement feel more natural than the floaty jumps of the other two classes.
-
Bladedancers blinking with a shotty feels unfair.
thats why I use it now
-
It makes up for the lacklustre performance of their super in PvE. We get some of the coolest abilities but no over shields or group OHK kill options. Both sub classes are designed for run and gun, never stop moving tactics. And these go with the crucible like chocolate topping on ice cream! It's not that there is an imbalance, it's just that the class suites the game play. Each class has it's pros and cons and fits a different role on the battle field.
-
The numbers could be like that just because there are more people playing hunter during the games, this more killed for hunters. But their supers are super annoying.

Edited by Blonded: 3/31/2015 7:41:45 PMDTR population stats: Class breakdown: 34% hunter, 34% warlock, 32% Titan. Top 100 Class Breakdown (PvP): 44% Hunter, 29% warlock, 27% titan Top 10,000: 37% hunter 33% warlock 30% Titan Im not sure how you collected your stats, because DTR has these stats available for you to view directly without any ambiguity over what stats are classed as "top 100". Anyone in top 100 can easily play any class, their skill doesn't lie in using a certain toolset. Sure they will have a preferred class, but they would dominate on any class.
-
Is the list specific to PvP modes? Probably but thought it was worth clarifying. Also curious what the distribution looks like by SUB-class?

There is nothing more getting blade danced in crucible
