No, I'm not referring to Xûr selling weapons, I'm talking about identifying aspects that makes one's character unique to him or herself.
Imo, the most stupid decision Bungie made in regards to Destiny is tying player level to gear. Player level should have been EXP based like the first twenty levels instead of this get better gear nonsense.
The gear light level has lead to everyone looking the same more or less. If level was EXP based, players wouldn't have to worry about dropping levels when swapping gear.
Ms5000watts touched on this slightly in a video of hers. She stated that while yeah it's good to be level 32 and rock your CE gear, it doesn't make much since to rock it in the crucible because other gear has better crucible focused perks. The reason you don't see people swap gear is because it's almost an unspoken taboo of Destiny to intentionally drop your light level.
People like customizing their characters and standing out. It sucks running into little clones with the only differentiating factor being a shader. It also sucks that the game punishes you by dropping your level (therefore your damage output) just for possibly using gear you WANT to use that isn't max light.

This is what would have help the most: full raid gear normal set Full raid gear hard set Just like the ships have their be two sets of gear that get you to 32. It would increase replay value and ensure better various 8 gear items on top of 12 exotics leads to much better variations
