I personally would like the leveling system to switch to a more traditional XP grind. While I hate the word "grind" and the tasks generally associated with it, I'd love to be able to wear whatever armor I want and remain my current level.
Honestly, I'm exhausted of seeing all my fellow Warlocks looking the same. Crota raid gear, Light Beyond Nemesis/Apotheosis Veil, Glowhoo....yes, there are unique players out there but the majority of us look roughly the same. Where's our individuality in this game?
Let's help build a better Destiny.
Edit 1: Someone mentioned Cosmetic Armor. I think this is brilliant. Anyone else find this idea cool? (I think they did this in Star Wars Galaxies)
Edit 2: Someone mentioned using Motes of Light to increase the light level of older gear. I really like this idea too! I have over 200 Motes that I'd love to put on my old VoG gear. They should be permanently attached, and if you dismantle the item you could maybe get 3/4 of then back. What do you guys/gals think?
Edit 3: Wow guys this thread has really become something! There's so many good ideas in here. Let's hope Bungie is listening. Keep the ideas coming, I'm doing my best to respond to all of you in between raiding and upgrading my not-gjallahorns haha

I'd like to see something where motes of light are given to the speaker and bonded to the guardian, or your armor, and that's how you increase your light level. And each level would require more motes.
-
Light level system is alright, but we need a transmog system
-
Id love to take the perks and light level from my crota gear and put it on other armor. Wether their is a cosmetic armor vender or just swap it down to old rare or legendary gear
-
I say it still requires armor but in an upgrade system way. Each level up requires a certain amount of AQUIRED and PURCHASED upgrades Starting at twenty: 3 upgrades needed Then 5 and 7 and so on til 32 Tell me what you think?
-
Here's an idea I got while looking through destiny tracker. Why not both? Perhaps in most PvE your exp level applies, while during raids, weeklys etc, your light level applies. That way you actually have something towards working for in patrols, normal strikes etc. and maybe you get a legendary shader for higher exp levels like 100 or something
-
Just because we have a G.horn doesn't mean we don't care (•__•)
-
That motes of life idea to increase light lvl in amor seems so legit!
-
When I'm worming dogs and de-fleaing cats light level isn't really a problem... Only when I'm actually operating on animals do I need more light. Wow I had no idea so many vets play Destiny! :O
-
It should stay light levelled but have more options to be light level 32 than just 2 armour sets
-
Keep light level but allow use of motes of light to reforge items.
-
How do you light level?
-
I just hate how defense rating doesn't mean shit when facing higher level enemies.
-
I do like the light levels. It's different from the old fashioned grind for max level. It makes players only able to reach max level by doing certain activities, making those activities all the more rewarding to do. I just wish there were more ways to reach max level without everybody looking the same, wearing the same ugly armor. IB is good for mixing things up, but still only leaves us with 2 options at the moment. I'm hoping in the future we get some form of transmografication or the ability to receive a larger variety of max level armor sets (all raid gear being max, please? With higher raid difficulty to get them?) I love how gear makes the player in this game, I just don't like how there's only one or 2 styles available to max level players.
-
I love XP grind so much, I think the light level limits things needlessly. You can't be max level and look how you want, pretty dumb system.
-
They should add some sort of "Light Forge" to be able to transfer light level to other armor. There are some beastly looking rares and legendaries in this game, and the raid gear is just fugly.
-
If it was xp based then people would just sit at a farm spot and level up not having to accomplish anything
-
I like the idea but it's been distributed so poorly with so many faults. For example: 1. It's limited gear in many ways (but it's possible this can be fixed) 2. It's a weird system and with every upcoming DLC this problem gets worst, partially as it makes raid gear redundant. 3. Non dlc buyers are left behind due to knew raid gear, I feel this is bad because of competitive things such as Iron Banner maybe?
-
They just need to let you use motes to up the light level/stats of older gear. I really want to wear my VoG Helm with CE arms so i can get orbs from vex and hive crits without switching gear and losing levels. I bet HoW raid will drop chest or feet that give orbs from fallen kills and then if there is a Cabal raid in the future you'll get the last piece for orbs from cabal. Would be really nice to just wear them all.

i have mixed feelings about the leveling situation.. i aporeciate bothe sides of the spectrum. but thinking long term, and actual programming wise, the future looks bleek. think of it this way... the original XP to 20, light to 32 already exists. the ammoubt of programming it would take to change that and the manpower accompanied is staggering and simply put- not worth bungie's time. thus brings up the question, whats next? if at any point bungie wants to return to an XP based route, this will create an XP-Light-XP sandwich for lack of better words. in this case, to ensure fairness, you would not be able to gain XP levels until after the light level of 32, leaving some players in that 31 to 32 abyss, waiting for the iron banner to have a specific piece. until then, all XP would be seemingly wasted, deterring players from continuing. because of this i truly fear that it's all light level based from here..

I'd rather do a more traditional level + armor set. Like anyone can get max level, but the raid gear would have the best PVE stats. The problem is that the idea of Light Level is so ingrained in the Destiny system. Taking it away would cause all kinds of issues with the entire game. Also, folks would just be like "if you don't have XXXX defense, you're a scrub!" I think we may as well stick to the light level, but we do need cosmetic armor pieces. I played Lord of the Rings Online, and that's one of the most fun parts about it: Dress Up! That would make things a lot easier for players and probably designer.
-
You can't really switch to a traditional exp leveling because our gear doesn't have enough stats. Just make cosmetic slots to fix the problem of everyone looking alike. Then make gear bind to the character on pickup.
-
Agree on the idea and edits 1 and 2 I would so like to change my character appearance, sex, dance, colour, etc. Please
-
I like the light level system. I don't play MMOs, so I dunno if this has been done before. But I did cut my teeth on RPGs so I like the stats and such.
-
We need more shaders for sure and weapon shades would be nice Idk if I like the xp level system just bc it would kinda eliminate the rng of leveling
-
need a 'don't care, don't have gjallarhorn' option in poll.
