A step in the right direction?

So this week, Bungie spoiled us all by releasing a 36L chest piece via Iron Banner. Everyone knows this. This action excited three groups of people, I think: 1) those of us who have the raid gear and the dlc but are tired of having to wear the same stuff as everyone else to reach max level/ think the raid gear is ugly or just doesn't fit the look we want for our Guardian. 2) those of us who do not raid (players who prefer a solo experience/ don't have mics/ can't quite find a capable group. 3) those of us who do not have the DLC and have long yearned for max level. I'm in group 1 but regardless of where we fit in, I think this is great. No doubt it will come bitter grizzled raiders making elitist comments about IB 32s somehow not being "real 32s," but this is Bungie keeping their promises! Bungie told us they would create a path for DLC have-nots to reach max level. Bungie told us that it would be a choice between playing together with friends and having our own solo adventures. Yes, they kind of delivered this but before now, it was moot because there was no way to reach max level without raiding. Bungie said that you'd be able to look at another Guardian's gear and know where they came from, what they went through to get where they are. Until now, this was a fallacy. You'd just look at a max level Guardian and know that they're a raider. That's it. Now at least there are two options. Bungie said that there'd be customization, implied variety. Before now, all max level Guardians looked almost the same with the only differences being exotic, class item, shader. I love what they've done and I love this game as a whole. I hope to see more like this. Maybe the next raid can have multiple sets of raid gear to provide variety? Alternatively, maybe they could implement an idea that fellow PS3 Guardian Humzawesome had and make raid drop a raid commendation or something similar which you would use to enhance an already existing lower item and boost it to raid quality. I think that's a great idea, personally. It makes use of all that beautifully diverse common, uncommon, rare, and legendary gear. Think of the possibilities! All in all, I like this little change. See you out in the field, Guardians! Following is a link to an official pre-launch vidoc. It gets me excited for the game every time I watch it even though I'm already playing it, as though it's for another game entirely.
