My hard light was my first exotic in the second week of the game.
Did I deserve or earn it? No. It was randomly gifted to me through a RNG game.
The people who get hard light from xur have earned theirs.
The ones who already had a hard light, or any other exotic that xur then sells, were randomly gifted it. The people who actually tried hard on earning their 'written-in-stone' strange coins rewards from weeklies, earn the exotic. They put work and time into it.
The ones who are gifted by random, don't earn it.

I got lucky with a nightfall a few weeks ago, and crota last week to receive my hard lights!!! I didn't even know about the gun before hand... I would've been another buying it from xur today because well, if he sells it then I'll buy it! Am I supposed to just keep saving coins for no reason? Pfft xurn for days!

Well, with a few minor tweaks to the fact if I did have it and change to I didn't have it.
