Don't tell him to "earn" crap because nothing is earned but the xur purchases, you participate in a strike and kill a certain boss for coins in which you will use to gain items from xur
Where as "earnings" are just randomly given to you based on luck or something

I remember the first exotic I got.. It was Thunderlord. I went something like 4-15 in a Control match. Totally earned it.
