--Archaeus-- Of the Stars Above
Chapter 7 - The Writers of our Future
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Once we got to a remote place, my wife and I exited our car to simply watch the invasion around us. We realized there was no use in hiding if these ships were tearing away at the earths crust. We parked in the middle of a large field, where there were no ships around for a few miles at least, and sat on the hood of the car.
"So... what do you think your grandfather was hiding from you all this time?" asked my wife. "I'm not sure..." I responded, while we watch more ships fall from the sky and pierce the ground. "I guess, maybe he was trying to allude to never explore the inexplicably unknown, especially one so dangerous as extraterrestrials." It was still very confusing for me. I knew not if he meant to avoid exploring the unknown, or that it can be very dangerous if I choose to do so.
We sat there for about an hour before the ground directly below us began to shift and crack. Once we noticed, we promptly left the area and drove even further away from our home city. We drove for only a few minutes before hearing a very loud, ear-piercing shriek. It was so loud, I had to stop the car to be able to hold my ears in pain. I looked behind me and saw something no one should ever have to look at. It was both, the most spectacular, and most terrifying thing that my eyes have ever laid themselves upon.
These things weren't just randomly digging out our planet. They were uncovering other machines! But these ones were different than all the rest. And the ships were unearthing one under my city! For hours, these things chopped and dug at the ground until it was free. It activated, and slowly rose from its tomb. They were bigger than the rest. So much bigger. As one near me rose from the ground, it let out a humming that was the most awful thing to ever hit my ears. The sound was so loud, that it actually blocked out every other sound that was trying to enter my ears, and the only thing I heard was the intimidating noise of this machine.
This machine looked different from the rest. It was shaped similarly to an arachnid, having four legs on either side, as well as a mass of tentacles on its bottom, hanging there for an unknown purpose. It had a spherical body, looking very mechanical, and had eight giant holes on its top side, which might be an area the minor ships fly into and out of. I couldn't see a clear cockpit, but I can believe there was on, nonetheless. After this thing let out its shriek and stopped it's humming, it's outside began to transform in a way, and allowed for hidden weapons to reveal themselves. As it transformed, as did the minor ships around it, also revealing their weaponry. This thing was bigger than my entire city, and it, along with many others, were just sleeping, dormant under us for all these years.
A few moments later, all of the ships, including the multiple large ships that were dug up, flew off into space, not sparing a single second. Nobody knew what to think afterwards. These things just came down, desecrated our planet by digging through the crust, revealed many large, presumably mother ships, then flew into space. These things caused so much destruction within the past few months, and now they're gone, just like that.
All around the world, there were reports of millions of casualties because of these machines. Entire cities, that once stood for over 200, 300, or even 500 years long were completely tore down and decimated. Our earth wasn't even "earth" anymore. The continents were so cracked and torn up, that you couldn't even recognize which continent it was. Some of these cracks even seeped lava. Our hope, was lost. Our confidence, shattered. Our will to continue on, broken.
But the destruction didn't stop there. No, it most certainly did not. After all of these events were said and done, something else happened. It was extraordinary, to say the least. But I suppose that if compared to what happened in the past few months, it's like another day, another walk in the park. Later that night, as I lay on the hood of my car with my wife, we saw something in the sky that frightened us, more so than these machines have recently done to us. Those pyramid-like ships weren't the only objects flying around in space. Something else came in.
A wormhole opened up a near the moon, and what came out of it, was like something from a movie. It was, singly, the most colossal-sized machine I have ever laid my eyes on. This thing topped all the others. It was quadruple the size of the moon, at least. I couldn't even make out the shape of it, or what it looked like in general. I simply made out the vivid color of red that was very prominent throughout this ship. Out of the wormhole with this ship, came many other smaller ships, about the size of the pyramidal ships. Some bigger.
Now it all made sense. The the first ships that came here weren't trying to invade us. They were running! But if those extraterrestrials, with the sheer power they wielded, were running from something else, who knows how much power the other race possessed. We were completely defenseless and helpless, here on earth. We could only watch. Almost like we were spectators of our own eventual destruction, as it would surely occur. This was the most important event in our lives. What happens within the next few months, even years, will dictate our fate. This wasn't just any normal war by our standards, no sir. Far from it. This was truly, a war of the worlds...

Nice. Just watch, "Earth," and, "Moon," are proper nouns and need to be capitalized. I just kept hearing the original, "War of the Worlds," by Orson Welles in my head while reading this. If you've never heard it before, just go on YouTube and type in, "Original War of the Worlds broadcast," and give it a listen. It's an hour, but extremely well worth it. Anyway, I like how you left it open at the end. Now, the reader can form his own idea of what happens next; be it end like the movie, or everyone is killed by them. Who knows, that's the fun. :-) Keep it up! Definitely keep me posted if you decide to start a Destiny story.
