I hate how one of the weekly strikes
REQUIRE you to have TDB expansion; it makes me sick with anger whenever I ask my friend "Hey wanna run through the nightfall strike with me real quick?" and he replies "Nope, can't. It's omnigul." My friend doesn't have the expansion pack. The hell, Bungie?!?! My friend could have gotten an exotic, or a weapon that is absolutely OP in the crucible, but you deny him that chance because of this.
He can't get above level 30 either, so that means he gets stomped in the Iron Banner. (There's some Pay To Win for ya.) He can't get HoC and doesn't have G-horn, so it takes forever to find a VoG group that isn't full of the kind and intelligent elitists that we all know and love.
There are even places that are from the HoW that people have already glitched into! (I've done it myself.) The $hit that we are all psyched to throw our money at is already in the game! Why are they making us pay for something that is already in the game?!
I'm so afraid that this rumored "Comet, Plague of Darkness" Mega DLC will also feature the content for the other two remaining DLCs. The Comet bs will be so full of Pay To Win/Play at this rate. What if the rumored new subclasses are OP? What if the weapons in this expansion are OP?
The bungie I know wouldn't do this. (Hell, any smart company wouldn't do this...)
If you don't like speculation then don't read this spoiler.
I personally think it's Activision's fault. Bungie never did anything of this magnitude to us loyal fans before they paired up with Activision. They were great to their crowd when they were paired up with Microsoft, even.
Hope you enjoyed my rant. I'll be adding edits later on.
Edit 1: I play with him on PS3. He got his own a long time ago, and he got Destiny for his birthday from another friend.
Edit 2: You guys totally are right about the term Pay To Play and how I should have expected a lot of expansions. Don't get me wrong, I like the dark below. But I really think that having to pay for content that's already in the game is fuqed up. I don't believe that you should have to pay again for something that you already paid for.

They should just release a compatibility pack so as they could tag other games such as borderlands have done so I believe
-
Buy it right now..
-
Just get out. If you can't afford 20 by now (expansion has been out for 3 months now) then you probably should be worrying about things besides video games....like a job maybe?
-
so if it wasnt on the game it would be ok? its 20 dollars not really that much just tell him to buy it and move on
-
If it's such a problem, loan your friend $20. Crying like a baby on the forums about it won't do any good. Also, I've seen plenty of 30s hold their own in Iron Banner. Also, you can reach 31 without TDB by buying gear from Crucible vendors. Enough of your pointless drivel please.
-
I agree to an extent. I will.be buying all dlc when it comes out. But to get the full game you have to buy 3 dlcs. So paying more then double for a game you brought
-
Well if ya play long enough in iron banner you can buy iron banner gear to reach lvl 32 unless he doesn't want to be a "fake" 32 lol
-
$400 system CHECK $60 game CHECK $20 expansion CANT AFFORD IT Yup this adds up.
-
Then just buy it if you truly like this game you'll buy dlcs. I still have fun with this game so I bought the season pass.
-
Destiny=pay to have nothing left to do in under a week. MMO my anus.
-
Buy it for him instead of ranting.
-
Your friend needs to get a job
-
Unless your 12 years old, 20 buck should not be a problem especially if your enjoying the Game. I've paid more for a Pizza & Bread Stick's to be Delivered to my home. XD WTF!!!
-
I guess you got sent to the forums crying.
-
it's 20$............. If i lay off the coffee and energy drinks for a week i'd have triple that!
-
If you want cheese on your fries you gotta pay for them, don't complain to the other people enjoying their cheese fries.
-
The thing is you aren't paying for the game, you are paying for license to play the game. That's how it use to work, you went out and bought the game you own that game, but they have changed it now so that when you buy a copy of a game you are only purchasing a license. They can dictate what your license gives you access for in the terms and conditions. So even if the content is on the disc it doesn't mean the license that is given to by purchasing said disc gives you license to everything on it. Don't get me wrong, I agree that this is messed up because it never use to be this way. But you have to be conscious of this when you buy a game today. Just because it's on the disc doesn't mean we are granted access to everything on it. Its sad that this is the way things are but it's not going to change.

He can't get HoC and doesn't have G-horn, so it takes forever to find a VoG group that isn't full of the kind and intelligent elitists that we all know and love.
WTF? 1a) At 30, he shouldn't be completely stomped. He WILL be at a disadvantage though. More importantly, he should make sure his weapons are leveled up completely (preferably legendary). As a 31/32 I've been killed by people in the level 29 range. After ~5 levels off the top it becomes problematic. 1b) Previous Iron Banner's have sold 36 light Boots and Gloves. This Iron Banner sells 36 light Chest. Those, fully leveled, plus an exotic helmet gets your friend to not 31, but 32. Leaving that aside, the vendor gear (crucible or vanguard) he can buy has 33 light and will get him to 31, leaving IB gear aside. 2) People requiring HoC or G-horn for VoG are suffering from a cranio-rectal inversion and should seek medical health immediately. I'd suggest he find a PS3 clan to play with so he doesn't have to deal with Randoms anymore.

First off it's 20 dollars. Second all tower gear is free to non dark below players too (31). Third with an exotic helmet and iron banner gear he could be 32
-
Tell your friend to stop playing Destiny, get a -blam!-ing job, and spend $20 Or, stfu, I like Omnigul, and take joy when scrubs cant do the weeklys
-
Bungie never said the game was free to play bro. They even gave you the option to buy the expansions at a discounted price via the season pass. Why do people feel so entitled? Smh.
-
Did you not pay for the game to play it? If you don't dish out money for an add-on/expansion, you shouldn't have access to new content. Yes, having that as the weekly sucks for some, but saying destiny is pay to play is kind of stupid. I paid for vanilla destiny, so I can play vanilla destiny. I paid for TDB, so I can play it.
-
Paying for extra content? Ludicrous! I should get everything for the $60 I spent!
This is called sarcasm. May god help you if you didn't get it.
-
Wait A -blam!-ing Week
-
Thought this was an old topic that got bumped. checked the post time and realized OP is late to the party.
-
People complain about $20 content but smoke a pack a day or visit starbucks every morning
