I hate how one of the weekly strikes
REQUIRE you to have TDB expansion; it makes me sick with anger whenever I ask my friend "Hey wanna run through the nightfall strike with me real quick?" and he replies "Nope, can't. It's omnigul." My friend doesn't have the expansion pack. The hell, Bungie?!?! My friend could have gotten an exotic, or a weapon that is absolutely OP in the crucible, but you deny him that chance because of this.
He can't get above level 30 either, so that means he gets stomped in the Iron Banner. (There's some Pay To Win for ya.) He can't get HoC and doesn't have G-horn, so it takes forever to find a VoG group that isn't full of the kind and intelligent elitists that we all know and love.
There are even places that are from the HoW that people have already glitched into! (I've done it myself.) The $hit that we are all psyched to throw our money at is already in the game! Why are they making us pay for something that is already in the game?!
I'm so afraid that this rumored "Comet, Plague of Darkness" Mega DLC will also feature the content for the other two remaining DLCs. The Comet bs will be so full of Pay To Win/Play at this rate. What if the rumored new subclasses are OP? What if the weapons in this expansion are OP?
The bungie I know wouldn't do this. (Hell, any smart company wouldn't do this...)
If you don't like speculation then don't read this spoiler.
I personally think it's Activision's fault. Bungie never did anything of this magnitude to us loyal fans before they paired up with Activision. They were great to their crowd when they were paired up with Microsoft, even.
Hope you enjoyed my rant. I'll be adding edits later on.
Edit 1: I play with him on PS3. He got his own a long time ago, and he got Destiny for his birthday from another friend.
Edit 2: You guys totally are right about the term Pay To Play and how I should have expected a lot of expansions. Don't get me wrong, I like the dark below. But I really think that having to pay for content that's already in the game is fuqed up. I don't believe that you should have to pay again for something that you already paid for.

£75 for the game TDB and HoW. That's what I paid and I think I've had around 1000 hours of enjoyment so far and the HoW isn't even out yet. The only other game in my l o n g gaming history where I got as much enjoyment was the halo series. So far it works out at 7.5 pence per hour. Bargain of the century. Did deep, tightwad.

I'm glad they add Omnigal into the mix, give me more of a challenge in my favorite strike. Next week will be back to the original strikes. Max lvl w/o TDB is 31 which can be hit by buying vendor gear. Grind to rank 3 in IB (more than easily doable at 30) and with an exotic you are nearly 32. Every decent fps and rpg has dlcs. Don't want to pay? You won't get the newest stuff, be thankful he can hit 32 through IB most games wouldn't do that. Finally Destiny is NOT pay to play. Pay to play games have monthly subscriptions, usually on top of the initial purchase price of the game ie WoW or Elder Scrolls Online. Please get your facts straight before ranting.

Pay to play? What, like 99% of the other games that I own? What's wrong with that? I've also bought these pay-to-play games in the past two weeks: - Settlers 7 - Tropico 5 The only game I've played recently that wasn't pay to play has been Papers Please when it was free to download.
-
If this is pay to play then I'm fine with that. I paid $100 7-8 months ago and have enjoyed it immensely. I'm sorry ur friend sucks or can't find $20. Comet could be $100 and I'd still buy it. Sounds like ur friend should have made a thread full of bitching but instead u did.

Your friend should totally get the Dark Below Expansion.
-
Destiny = cheat to win.

My car was brand new once. Then the new one came out. -blam!- YOU FORD!!!

Another entitled whiny post. Thanks for pointing yourself out so I can help clean these forums up one mute at a time. Before I go tho please understand that the only thing these self entitled whiny posts do, is give bungie something to wipe their collective arses with during potty time #printingpostsonbogpaper

Get friends that aren't losers living in their mom's basement and can afford $20.
-
Dlc is only 15 dollars
-
Saving $1/week since the game launched would have bought him the first expansion pack by now. Someone's not good with finances
-
I interpret pay to play as a wow style model. Like where you need a monthly subscription to play. Imo a flat 20 bucks is str8. Get a job m8.
-
When there is no nf/weekly, non dlc players ONLY HAVE VOG TO RUN as an endgame activity that week, which is not enough
-
Its the same with DLC across Xbox one to 360. Because I bought it on Xbone I have to purchase it on 360, which I refuse to do even though most of my raid buddies are on there..

To chime in on the how areas, think of it this way. When a new mall is built, the whole structure is built, even though every store isn't occupied. Destiny was built the same way, the structure is there but not all the "store" have been occupied.

Did you expect to buy this game and not pay for the DLC? -
"Peter, hold that thought because when we get home, I'm going to tell you everything wrong with that statement." Seriously though, so much is off base here... 1. Dark Below-exclusive exotics are all terrible, you aren't missing out on anything 2. 3x Atheon and 3x Gorgon chest is still 6 chances at exotic loot on weeks when you can't nightfall 3. Omnigul is an awful, awful strike that you don't want to waste your time doing anyway. Trust me. 4. Neither HOC nor Ghorn is necessary, or even preferred, to complete VOG on either difficulty. The only thing that supports your "Pay to win" concept from the expansion is that it raised the level cap, which still only matters for Iron Banner. Two solutions: 1. Buy the DLC. It's $20, don't drink coffee for a week and you're there. 2. Don't buy DLC, enjoy the vanilla game.

Well no shit you're going to have to pay to play a game. My guess is you use food stamps and live off of welfare since you seem to be used to the idea of hand outs. Kidding, but in all seriousness you don't know what a true pay to play is do you? It's one of those things that requires a subscription fee. Which destiny doesn't have. Sooooo....yeah idk you put two and two together.
-
lol... People are so cheap these days. My friend doesn't have it but yet he buys new game titles when they are released. So stop blaming Bungie just because you have a cheap friend.
-
You don't know what pay to play is. This is just a game that uses the DLC model.
-
Games have DLC. That's it. So stop crying. "Pay to play" would be about $15 a month like a Warcraft game.
-
The glitched areas are partially in the game they obviously aren't finished
-
He can't get into iron banner it is dark below
-
This topic is so November
-
He can get to 31 without the DLC. If you haven't gotten to 31, and you've had the game a significant period of time, that's your own issue. Not the game's.
-
Except you can get to 31 easily without TDB :/
