I hate how one of the weekly strikes
REQUIRE you to have TDB expansion; it makes me sick with anger whenever I ask my friend "Hey wanna run through the nightfall strike with me real quick?" and he replies "Nope, can't. It's omnigul." My friend doesn't have the expansion pack. The hell, Bungie?!?! My friend could have gotten an exotic, or a weapon that is absolutely OP in the crucible, but you deny him that chance because of this.
He can't get above level 30 either, so that means he gets stomped in the Iron Banner. (There's some Pay To Win for ya.) He can't get HoC and doesn't have G-horn, so it takes forever to find a VoG group that isn't full of the kind and intelligent elitists that we all know and love.
There are even places that are from the HoW that people have already glitched into! (I've done it myself.) The $hit that we are all psyched to throw our money at is already in the game! Why are they making us pay for something that is already in the game?!
I'm so afraid that this rumored "Comet, Plague of Darkness" Mega DLC will also feature the content for the other two remaining DLCs. The Comet bs will be so full of Pay To Win/Play at this rate. What if the rumored new subclasses are OP? What if the weapons in this expansion are OP?
The bungie I know wouldn't do this. (Hell, any smart company wouldn't do this...)
If you don't like speculation then don't read this spoiler.
I personally think it's Activision's fault. Bungie never did anything of this magnitude to us loyal fans before they paired up with Activision. They were great to their crowd when they were paired up with Microsoft, even.
Hope you enjoyed my rant. I'll be adding edits later on.
Edit 1: I play with him on PS3. He got his own a long time ago, and he got Destiny for his birthday from another friend.
Edit 2: You guys totally are right about the term Pay To Play and how I should have expected a lot of expansions. Don't get me wrong, I like the dark below. But I really think that having to pay for content that's already in the game is fuqed up. I don't believe that you should have to pay again for something that you already paid for.

The problem: The dark below locked previous playable content behind a paywall. That is bs. Weekly/NF were part of the vanilla game. And since, don't quote me on this but I've heard it in another thread, 50% of the weekly since tdb has been DLC content. His friend payed for the vanilla game, and deserves all the content of the vanilla game. Bungie out in a paywall for content he previously payed for. Look at it this way. Say the platform you are playing on had an update dlc that allowed you to their new controller. And then they go ahead and make it so that you need the controller to play any game you already have, your old controller will no longer connect. Many of you will say it's a stupid analogy, but if you actually think about it, it's what destiny did. Id know everyone here would be pissed if you console got this mandatory update. It the idea, not the price that matters. It doesn't matter if the new controller cost 5$ or 100$, people already payed $60 ish for their previous controller that should still function the same as before. I don't give a shit about the price. I have the dlc, but it really the fact that they did this crap that's bs. There's no denying it. NEWGuns, NEWarmor, NEW places and NEW content is ok to lock behind a paywall

Um, your friend could actually hit 31-32 from a combo of exotic helm and iron banner for all the rest. At least 31 from vendor gear, and none of that is dlc exclusive. And to my mind at least, pay-to-play applies more to games where you purchase items with irl money, not gameplay with irl money.
-
It is Activision's fault. Money hungry pieces of shit.
-
Disk locked content
-
If they released all the DlC's at 1 time the game wouldn't last as long if you spread them out the game will last longer and if you make mystery dlc's people are gona wana stay to find out what happens... It's logic dude use ur noggin F.Y.I. If you make all the stuff for every one then people won't buy the dlc's you have to make the dlc worth it it's like paying $10 for a candy bar(rip off)
-
Um...can you even play IB without TDB?
-
Without expansion max lvl is 31 and ib gear to 32
-
Clearly you don't know what pay to play actually is
-
So many of my friends say"I can't afford it!" I say back"you afford $60 games and a $100 special mic but you can't buy a $20 psn card? "
-
If he is your friend why not get it for him. Its like what 20bucks?
-
Why would you need HOC or jellyhorn for VOG?
-
Edited by zJBombz: 3/19/2015 7:25:32 PMIf you can't afford $40 then maybe go get a job instead of playing destiny, moron. Do you expect such a big game to make no money. The world revolves around money. I will pay for every expansion as long as they continue to make new ones.
-
This rant shoulda happened the week of TDB, not now. And if it had, we could've referred you to the threads where people were buying it for others! But I suppose my point is just as Moot as the OP
-
In regards to your spoiler, this isn't the same Bungie from the Halo days. The company is considerably larger and lost a lot of the original crew (Marty comes to mind). Plain and simple, this isn't the same company as before. Still, Activision had some hand in it, no doubt.
-
You can get above 30 without TDB. Vendor gear gets you to 31
-
Ha your friend is broke as shit
-
Your friend needs to get a job
-
Dude it's only 20 bucks oh buy it
-
Buy the expansion for your friend if it pisses you off that bad.
-
You can get to level 31 without the DLC, 32 if you play in this IB and played the previous one.

Edited by o0DELTA FORCE0o: 3/19/2015 1:25:19 AMWhen Destiny was released I only had 2 friends who played it. One of them ran out of thier live subscription. I wanted to play so I bought him a 3 month online code and sent him the code so we could play. Maybe if it bothers you that much you could buy your friend the dark below. What are friends for?

Edited by Los: 3/19/2015 6:27:15 AMBungie deserves more then simply $60 for Destiny, I'll happily buy DLC and even contribute to some sort of "tip jar" if it was available. Content costs money, people don't work for free, nor should they. The DLC is a bargain. This website you so freely post your opinion on isn't free to operate. Your opinion is fair and its your right to voice it, however I vehemently disagree. You have personally played over 6 days worth of Destiny. 6 days = 144 hours. A Hollywood movie is about 2 hours long and costs, let's say, $10 to see in a theater. That's 72 movies at 2 hours each, $10 per movie, $720 total. Should comet exist, it will, and should be $40 - $60. Your entitlement rant makes me sick.

Edited by Economic Rage: 3/19/2015 4:20:35 PMHe couldnt pay 20 dollars yet for it? He could have saved a quarter a day?

I dont have the dlc, but I am also not getting it. I like Destiny a lot, but not enough for dlc. I am a huge critic of dlc. Only games I have all the dlc for is, mw3, skyrim, and world of warcraft. Maybe some day I might get but idk. Like I said, I have full dlc for 3 games. Im not in a rush to pay for stuff that should be included in the main game. I know that 30 bucks isnt expensive. Cost is irrelevant here. The point is, game companies have found a way to put partially complete games with the promise of future dlc. This means less development and testing time. I'm not saying this is bad, I am simply stating that I dont like Destiny enough to get the dlc. Yet. There may come a time when I will get it. We will see how the next expansion goes. I will say skyrim and world of warcraft are pretty much complete games before dlc. I really love those games, they are 2 of my favorites.

Good. Force out the poors. I shouldn't be forced to have to interact with them
-
You can get to 31 without the Dark Below expansion.
