Xur Vs. "Earn" breakdown...

So I posted this originally as a comment to another users post about people crying about the Red Death. I thought is was too good to just be a comment post so here it is, my breakdown of Xur and earning. You will be able to see my stance by the end of the post. Feel free to try and discredit my post but this is what logic tells me is true. "Defend the light fellow Guardians" -sparkymist Yeah all the complaining is funny, "he bought it from Xur, so he did not earn it Meah" these kids will always crack me up because they do not think about what earn means. I'm going to breakdown my view on it: 1. How much does an exotic Red Death weapon cost from Xur? Answer: 23 strange coins 2. With one character how many coins are you guarantied a week from the weekly (Not counting nightfall). Answer: 9 strange coins 3. So with that in mind how many Weekly Strikes does it take? (provided you do not receive any from engrams or bounties etc...) Answer: 3...(9+9+9=27) with 4 left over after the amount needed for said weapon. 4. Now then you have some random Destiny player that picks up the weapon off a nightfall, or the ROC, or Crucible or other activity, due to RNG. That is, mind you...RANDOM. So I ask you is this earning it more then someone else? Answer: no, no it's not, let me help you out and explain it. 5. So one player grinds the weekly for 3 straight weeks or if they have 3 characters do the same one 3 times, but the point is you have to run 3 strikes to have enough. After that Xur ends up selling something like the Red Death so how is it that if they use the coins they "earned" from the weekly any different then a player that "earned" the weapon from a drop in a similar activity. Answer: it's not, not one bit different. But I would like to hear anyone that can say otherwise. In the end it's just a game, people need to stop crying about this that and the other and play. Who cares how someone got a certain item, they have it so be happy for them and drive on. That is all. -sparkymist

  • Great post. I truly feel that buying from Xur is the only true way to "earn" something in this game due to getting a certain weapon from a drop which lets face it is pure luck. Another way to explain this in real life terms would be this. Say one person works at their job everyday and saves enough money to buy their dream car then goes and buys it. Another person goes to work everyday and one day someone mysteriously just gives them their dream car free and clear. Which one of these people truly earned their dream car?
