Buff Exotic Attack
“Exotics should sound and feel over powered without [disrupting] the balance”
Balance of course is the great challenge of Destiny programing, but this one could be a easy fix, possibly.
All exotic attack (not impact) needs to be higher than legendaries.
Why exotic buff?
Because of a principle I like to call The Apocalypse Principle. See, it was the X-men’s arch enemy, Apocalypse, that said, “I am as far above mutants as mutants are above humans.” Now, guy was a scumbag, but he was definitely on to something. Exotics are supposed to be the next step up from Legendaries, which are the next from rare etc They’re supposedly hard to obtain (excluding raid weapons), and by developers’ own admission are supposed to have the sense of overpoweredness without being so. The Attack Stat is what permits that.
No one should EVER be placing an exotic in the hands of their guardian knowing it’s not the most powerful class in the game. Exotics should leave no doubt that when it is fully upgraded, it will deal the highest damage even without their perks, like TLW.
Why attack and not impact?
Because impact would throw the careful balance of stats and perk out of whack, especially in the crucible. Impact says how much the weapon CAN do. Attack says what percentage the weapon will do against high level characters. Exotics should be the most effective against the highest level enemies. Why? Cause they’re exotic. They’re the “rarest.” The hardest to obtain.
An attack buff would make them more effective in PvE without disrupting PvP. It would also allow Legendaries to maintain their role as the second best without nullifying them and making the gamer completely dependent on their exotic weapons, something I sense the developers don’t want.
The only question is how much more attack power should exotics have? Someone with access to the math would have to answer that one.

Edited by DJ1977: 3/12/2015 5:59:35 PMDo you realize that impact is the amount of damage and that the 300 and 331 are indicators of what level of enemy the weapon does 100% damage to (level 30 and 33, respectively)? It sounds like you want more than 331 for exotics (please tell me if I misunderstand) but what that would mean is that the weapons would just be for enemies of levels that aren't in the game right now. A 300 weapon and a 331 weapon with the same impact are supposed to do the same damage to a given enemy out side of the high end enemies in the Crouton raid. The re-balancing has, no doubt, messed up some of the impact stuff, but on day one it was impact and player level that determined damage done by a given weapon. edit: I agree that the exotics should be more 'exotic' than legendary weapons, but given how bungie made their game that would have to come from perks.

Sounds like this could be a good idea!

It's stupid how you can only equip 1 exotic and they have the same attack value as a legendary. Exotics should have atleast 30 or so more attack than legendaries, this is why most legendaries outperform exotics. Buffing attack value will also not have impact on pvp. I guess bungie isn't really that smart/creative.

And exotic armor should have better defense value then the current raid item for that slot

Preach preacher!! I agree. Too many not very exotic Exotics.
