Hate Against Kids (Rant)

Squeakers suck and steal Mommy's Credit Card

Hello I am a 13 year old gamer and I play Destiny. When I join someone or go on raids I am Called "Squeaker". I am apparently someone to laugh at and abuse for being 2 years younger then another person. About 1 in 15 people are nice and don't care. When I need help with a Raid I invite people and ask people for help, then I am abused because I am 13 and have a voice that is kind of high. I play with 6-9 year old's if they need help... most other people just bully them and ruin the experience of Communication on this awesome MMO. I love Destiny it is fascinating and enjoyable... but about 70% of the community are bullies towards "Little Kids". If you don't want to play with someone because they have a voice that you absolutely can't stand, don't be a Bully just say "Sorry I really don't want to do this... I want to do other things" as appose to hurting feelings and being a dick. You were a kid once whats wrong with it? If they are screaming in the microphone and being really Annoying then give them a chance tell them your gonna kick them if they keep going, then if they keep going don't retaliate just be chill and say "Hey you had your warning... sorry your being kicked". The thread is about people being bullies after they say a few words in a high voice. Also if they try to be funny don't laugh and say that wasn't really that funny try something else. About 4 years ago I got Xbox with COD and I did these things to so I can understand why people gave them this reputation. I feel it should be changed a little bit. Fighting fire with fire never works out it's just a waste of time. If this is changed I would think Destiny would be more inviting and people under 14 would enjoy it a lot more! Also shut up about ratings. Look at the movies people sneak in all the time your not gonna stop anything. In Australia you are allowed to play it so you can't say crap about kids from Aussie. Think of something without involving ratings or do you need to rely on them?
Australia has different spelling and grammar and I am 13 get off my case.
• I am fine playing with younger people, assuming that they don't start crying after a single wipe, or drive me insane with incessant meaningless chatter in their (surprisingly) annoying voices. I do give them chances, but if they annoy me, I, like anyone, will kick/mute them without a second thought, as I will with anyone who drives me insane over raids and such.

  • I generally avoid playing with folks that are noticeably younger, not because I don't like playing with them, hell half of them are pretty damn good. It's mostly me censoring myself. I have an adult's conversational tastes that I don't really expose my own kids to. Thus when I hear any kid my Dad switch turns on, and I'm instantly less comfortable talking in my usual tone. Nothing personal, but I play Destiny to turn my brain off and wind down from work, the wife, and dealing with my own kids, to find some measure of catharsis before I have to get up and do it all again the next day...not to hang out with someone else's kids who just by their presence wreck my attempt at escapism. I'm trying to be as close to drooling numb to the world as possible, saying whatever falls out of my brain with no Dad filter. If I want to game with my brain on, I don't really age discriminate... but I also wouldn't pick Destiny to play out of my vast game library if I want to engage in thought.

  • Kids aren't annoying just you. I know lots of squeakers who are chill and don't tend to bother me. Your not getting kicked cause of your age. It's cause your obnoxious

  • If you're 13, you shouldn't have long to wait until your voice drops. 13 is when mine finally did. Just be patient.

  • first off it has really nothing to do with age. the problem is the high pitched "squeeky" voice. for me personally, i get a headache hearing it continuously through a headset. it is NOT okay to bully anyone, i just wont play. if its manageable without communicating i will definitely just mute them and continue playing. my 10 year old son plays this game also, sometimes with me. He does not have a mic and he understands why.

I want to let you know that there are more people that are fine playing with kids your age. (This is what I think happened) The squeaker title was given because a lot of kids(everyone, even us) who were or are 13ish. They overreact and whine too much. I have had a kid who was screaming in a CoD game because he kept dying. The term was used to disrespectfully tell other gamers that this individual could be one of the overreactors. I think this term is wrong and should go away. However, even though it's wrong, there are some kids that do behave this way, and it's not fun for everyone else. That is why this exists. I'm on your side, and I think one of the only ways is to clear it up is: calmly tell said person that you aren't a squeaker and you just want to play the game. Now if this person is an ass and doesn't give you a chance, then you can't blame yourself, but for those that do give you a chance, then you will prove to them that you are just like anyone else. And in your own way, different. Have a nice day.

  • I was about 12 or 13 when I started playing Halo. But back then it was just me and my friends with no online play for Halo 1. I was 17 when Halo 3 came out and that's when I first started using mics in online games. But that was just because I was growing up while console games were first getting online play. I'm glad Destiny is being played through multiple generations, because Bungie games are great co-op experiences. :) I'm 25 now and I don't have any problems with younger kids playing these games, as long as you know what you're doing.

  • I don't mind squeakers but if had a few occasions that I joined a fire team and instantly I hear a bunch of kids talking over each other. I then proceed to block them all and exit.

        • Yes thank you! I am eleven years old and most people I play with think I know nothing about the game and they call me an idiot and a squeaker. FYI I probably know more about the game than they do.

        • I'm 34. I don't care how deep someone's voice is. I've done VoG with people who sounded like they were 8 years old but played fine and communicated fine. The only time I will drop from a group due to younger players is if they're being obnoxious or irritating. But that has nothing to do with their age, because I'd treat someone in their 20s the same way. Just be respectful, and try not to think of it as "other players helping you do a raid" and more like everyone playing on the same team to achieve the same goal. For what it's worth, it's a little annoying to have someone beg you to help them, as opposed to asking "hey I'm going to run a raid, do you want to run it too?"

          • I'll raid with anyone as long as they can focus on the objectives and don't do massively stupid things, like: * Getting killed by Atheon before the first teleport because they were hopping around the map. * Taking potshots at Gorgons. * Ignoring cover in the PoE, yelling "YOLO BRUH", and charging across the wide-open area, only to be smeared into a thin paste by the ogre, two wizards, and countless boomer knights waiting there for them. * Not muting the mic before screaming at their parents because they've asked them twenty times to take out the garbage. Show a little respect.

            • as long a you aren't overly disruptive during the raid just talk as little as possible and don't respond to the fireteam's insults
Fighting fire with fire never works out
No just fighting fire with a high voice never works out(unless you're a girl), because chances are you wont have a wide variety of back talk in comparison to the other people

            • I have several players on my friends list that are under the age of 16 that I play with sometimes. Normally, not playing with them has more to do with me than them. There are days when I don't want to filter my language or subject matter.
