I think this new mute/ignore feature is for the most part a good one. But I find myself wondering if people caught up in heated debate are going to jump to use it trivially, thus homogenising their own BNet experience somewhat. So I started thinking of reasons I'd block or mute people. This is my list:
1. Assault/death threats - I get these by PM too often, and blocked PMs from certain users on the old site. It'll be nice to be able to extend that block to the site at large. That kind of thing is no laughing matter, so it'll be nice to be able to get rid of it.
2. Stalking - this isn't as big a concern to me as it might be to some other people because I'm pretty public about my real name/whereabouts and I'm not under 18 so I don't have to worry about predators like some younger users might. But I've definitely seen cases on this site of users being stalked - even to the point of being followed offsite - and being able to block such users from interacting with you would be one small step towards stopping that.
3. Spam accounts - I'm pretty lax in my approach to people being silly in threads, but John Cena spammers and the like are just nuisances.
Honestly, that's all I can think of. It wouldn't even occur to me to block someone just because they had silly opinions, or because they didn't like me. I would hope most people would see the ignore feature as more of a last resort than an easy way to block out anyone who disagrees with them. How will you be using it - to filter out the truly nasty parts of your experience, or just to shut out people who aren't exactly like you, or somewhere in between?
-
Only ones I'm going to be blocking are ones who posting adult content, threatening people, trying to intentionally spoil people on games, or discussion on breaking the law. If I just go off muting people just because, the forums would get very quiet, very fast.

Veration stalked me for a while. Eventually he PMed me saying, "Wanna see my scars?"

is there a way to block clans from looking at your roster, i recently had a disagreement with a clan mate now he started his own clan and sending messages that are lies to my clan members off my clans roster to get them to join him?
-
I don't see myself blocking people unless they are spam account and such. I like being able to see everything that people say good or bad.
-
Everything mentioned in that list is when I'll mute people. Too bad my block list got nuked.
-
Repeated shit threads earn a mute.
-
i have yet to get any death threats
-
Someone sending you pictures of different types of vaginas over twitter and asking you which one resembles yours....Definitely isn't a reason to block some one... I swear I didn't do it. <.<
-
Every time I see a new user I instantly hit the block button while mumbling aggressively to myself.
-
I mute everybody that disagrees with me.
-
If the guy that used to make accounts specifically to derail my threads and get them locked ever comes back, I'll probably mute him. I don't get threats or anything, and I'm not interesting enough to stalk, so I can't really see myself using the "Mute" button for anything else.
-
On the old site, there were usernames that I automatically skipped over while reading a thread because I simply didn't care about what they said. Now I'll just mute every user who proves to be completely useless or a dick.
