I was thinking about this before. It seems to me like followers are going to become the new measure of popularity. (Perhaps this will render popularity threads obsolete? Ah, I crack myself up sometimes.) So, it makes sense that over the coming weeks, we'll see a lot of people jockeying for followers as a way of building up their forum rep, as it were. I think it's going to be interesting to see what people try, and what effect the follower dynamic will have on the way people post here in the future. Personally, however, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to get followers - it just feels too much like Twitter to me, and while I really love Twitter and have a lot of fun on it, the whole follower race business has always felt really tiring and sucked the fun out of it.
What are your thoughts on this new feature, and how do you think it'll affect the way we post and interact?

I'm not actually entirely sure as to what the point of following somebody is.
-
Nope. I am just going to do my thing and if people follow me I pity them greatly.
-
Nobody would ever follow a loser like me.
-
some people followed me the other day. now i have to make a conscious effort to make my posts somewhat interesting. *interesting text*

Who cares? Titles r better

Edited by Verachi: 1/13/2013 7:20:41 PMNot really, I don't care much about this follower feature. I'm not an attention whore. I'm sure attention whores love it though. I hope it doesn't affect the way people post that would be stupid.
-
I'm pretty sure titles will alleviate that problem when they come back, to an extent.
-
I only have quite a few. :D

"I'm a girl" *instant 100 followers* It'll happen every time. Except for you, Jay, we're all too used to you.
-
*waits for OP to see the "share" link to the right* Yeah, and "AddThis"? Pretty cool too. As far as follower count becoming a new currency in ePeen wars? Sure. But then again, people will attach value to anything, even tulips (especially in 1637 Amsterdam).
-
No, if people want to follow me that's their business. I'm not interested in starting a fanclub.
-
Seeing as I'm virtually anonymous amongst the forums, I'd prefer not to make a fool of myself by follower-baiting.
-
I never going to ask for followers. I follow people who I recognize and know. If you recognize me feel free to follow me, if you don't know me then don't. What's the point in following someone who you don't know?
-
I like that I can follow members whose posts I enjoy.

Edited by RIP delta: 1/13/2013 7:25:27 PMAlready made a thread about my quest to get all of the followers. They're like Pokemon I think. I never got all the Pokemon either, except in Red, but then I lost it. #eiffel65

Followers? What are you talking about? Oh, you mean the E-Peen Enlarger 9001(tm).
-
lolfollowers and anyone who cares about that garbage
-
No what's the point.
-
I'm not going to aim for any followers, because I'm not sure what capabilities they have, and I couldn't care less.
-
Nope, but whoever finds what i say interesting is welcome to do so.
-
i don't have twitter, Facebook or anything like that so I don't know what to think about it.

Edited by Forsvantro: 1/13/2013 7:55:59 AMI just realized that we'll get to listen to you talk about bungie.net on twitter... only without going on twitter. I don't think followers will be that big of a deal though. I'm following alot of people I recognize from the old days partly to keep track of name changes but I'm not really going for alot of followers, in fact it would probably be creepy to have people notified of my posts. Which is why I don't post on Facebook much either.

no, Don't care

Edited by Grenades hurt: 1/13/2013 7:39:46 AMDidn't care about people, nor their opinions before the change, still don't. Follow me, don't follow me: my posts are witty, provocative, thoughtful or trollsome, yet no matter what I post I won't care what others think. #themoreyouknow Although I will follow users I recognize who don't change their name. I will never change mine.
