For multiple weeks we have seen endless whining about how "Bungie lied" or "Xur isn't random, I'm done."
Well those people are wrong.
Guess what? Xur's inventory can still be random and pre-determined. Let me explain.
I have a 24 sided dice. Let's say every week at my store I have a set of 24 items all labeled with a number. Now, I could roll the dice every week, for 24 weeks, to pick the number, and thats what I sell. Or, at the beginning, I could roll the dice 24 times and just record the numbers and sell the items in the order the numbers were rolled.
No matter if I did it once a week separately, or all at the beginning, I could still end up with multiple repeats of the same number. Random is random.
And just because someone data-mined the info doesn't mean it isn't random. Discovery of previously randomized, pre-rolled data does not make it any less random.
This is no different with Xur. Can we all accept this and move on?
And to be clear, I understand that Bungie has the ability to change Xur's inventory at any given time.

He is not random. You are ignorant if you think so
-
The odds of xur selling the same items 4 weeks apart are 90,000 to 1 in an equal weighted system that's my best argument against xur being random. And the fact that he sold so many tdb weapons after the dlc dropped
-
A benefit to doing it before-hand is that you can edit it if you need to. If it was random every week, there's a decent chance it could never sell a particular item for years, and they could remedy that if they felt like it. As for the people who have a terrible grasp on statistics and think certain things repeating or not appearing proves it's manufactured, it's not worth explaining to someone that dumb, let their stats teacher when they finally make it to high school spend a couple weeks trying to teach them to wrap their head around it.
-
no its not u goat
-
That is actually a very good explanation bud.
-
Everyone is saying who cares.. But look at the posts, almost 1 out of 5 is someone crying that bungie lied about xur being random and other nonsense, and those posts have people commenting on them agreeing. So yeah there are people who care. If you didn't care. Why did you read and take time to comment?
-
Xur is random TO AN EXTENT. You can say all you want how he's random but there definitely is a weighted system at play
-
Considering that people on the English forums represent less then 1% of the player base. It pretty safe to say, who cares.
-
Are you people seriously debating wether a FICTIONAL npc that sells imaginary guns, has his inventory randomly generated or if its chosen?? Who the hell cares?
-
You do know there are a couple people on the reddit who have predicated his entire inventory, down to the exact stat values, for weeks now... Right?
-
XUR IS NOT RANDOM HOW DO U THINK PPL GET WHAT HE HAS RIGHT AND BUNGIE SAID HE IS NOT RANDOM AND THERE JS NO REASON FOR THEM TO LIE!!!
-
Why does anyone care if he is or isn't random?
-
I agree, I also see why bungie would want to know well in advance.
-
Xur has been predicted with 100% accuracy at least twice now. Therefor; not random.
-
If it is random, it should be rolled when xur is getting ready to come to the tower rather than weeks before. Personally, I don't think it's random, but who knows.
-
Edited by UnightedReaper: 3/7/2015 2:04:43 AMXur may be random, but to say he isn't contrled is highly improbable. Here's why:
-
Just because it's predetermined doesn't mean it's not random. If you roll dice in the dark due to you not payin your power bill, once you pay your bill and turn the lights on to see the dice it doesn't change the outcome of the dice.
-
Ugh. Let me explain. Xur is not random on an aspect of it constantly changing until he gets here. Xur's inventory is scripted. It was random at the start of the game. Everything is pre-determined, but still random. I'm sure they can change it, but its predetermined before he gets to the tower and weeks before. Example- April 10th let's say he sells Plan C No backup plans Radiant dance machines Skull of Dire Ahmkara That loot table is exactly the same on March 26th for April 10th. It doesn't change. See what I mean? When they scripted xur, it was all random as far as the inventory goes, but it can't change later on down the road to something different.
-
I don't think it's random solely on the fact that the DLC weapons have been sold so many times. The percent chance that that would actually happen is so ridiculously low, that it's not possible to have those weapons repeat so much randomly
-
No this cant be understood because there are too many retards on this forum.

Edited by Guardian5378: 3/7/2015 1:51:37 AMYou're probably right. I don't know or care that much. I just want to shoot. Bump my haiku
-
Xur is not random dumbass. A shot gun shows up after a shot gun buff? Deej said a while back when the 2nd ice breaker was sold, saying enjoy your ice breaker. And now xur has sold it 4 times. All the rare exotic armor pieces are now being sold, because so many fagš Complained about not having them and now he's selling them. Megaman predicted the inventory and nughtfall. RNG means that it's not pre determined. It's RANDOM. Xur is not random
-
i really really dont think its random. he obviously cant sell like decent guns every week, otherwise exotics would lose ton of value. thats why he sells bad guns sometimes like every other week to switch off like no land beyond, and iniversal remote is next week. he sold dragons breath 2 weeks apart, along with guns i already listed. also why would it be random when they can just pick what hes selling themselves? just sayin
-
I definitely believe it's random but I think certain items have a higher percentage of being rolled
-
I agree & I would have made a post like this but it's hard to convince people on here..

Bungie chooses Xûr's inventory. I personally believe that DLC items (weapons/armor) are chosen more often than non-DLC items (most of which are not very effective) for sale on purpose. I think it's simply a ploy to force non-DLC owners to purchase DLC. I assume we will see a very similar pattern with the HoW DLC. However, I could be wrong. Not likely though. The fact that they offer the same pay-wall to players who want to play the Nightfall/Weekly when it's DLC-only (without a non-DLC alternative) only confirms my beliefs.
