Roughly 10 minutes ago, I completed a Hard Mode Crota Raid (shoutout to Cuddly and the Crew from LFG) and recieved the Crux of Crota. I was excited to finally upgrade my Eidolon Ally and test it out on my Warlock. I got to the the Cosmodrome, applied the upgrades to my Ally but forgot that I had my P&T equipped in Secondary slot. This meant that once the Crux was applied, the Necrochasm couldn't equip itself in my primary slot automatically, like it should. Instead, it went to my inventory.
That's when I realised, I had no Primary Weapon equipped. Just my Secondary and Heavy. I switched P&T out for a shotgun, intrigued by what I found. The Necrochasm was still unequipped. This had a couple of effects:
- Primary Ammo no longer dropped, Heavy and Secondary dropped at a significantly higher rate.
- Game treated my Special as my Primary, and Heavy as Special. (I ran out of Special ammo and the message 'No Primary Ammo flashed').
The main effect that I was concerned about here was the increased Heavy drops, I could use my Heavy as my Primary and very efficiently; I hardly ever ran out of ammo. If you don't believe me about this glitch, check out my Warlock here on bungie.net - my Primary slot has completely disappeared!
Edit: Yes, this may be old news. I didn't claim to be the first to discover this. The reason I posted this is so that those who are unaware of the glitch could find out.
Edit 2: This works best with Icebreaker as your Exotic Special and a Legendary Rocket (like Hunger). As long as your Heavy Ammo is empty, all your kills and kills by others around you get you Heavy Ammo.
For best results, empty your Heavy, kill everything in an area without picking up Heavy drops. Once everything is dead, you'll have plenty of free Heavies!

It disappeared because when you upgraded the aly into necrochasm, you already had an exotic weapon equipped. The game only allows 1 exotic weapon/armor at a time. Therefore it unequipped the necrochasm and left you without a primary. You didn't glitch anything.
