I was wanting to see if I can get some words of encouragement from either current active duty soldiers or even some veterans. I'm 17 and I felt I was obligated to serve my country because this country has done nothing but great things for me. So I thought I would return the favor. I plan to be in active duty for at least 4 years and use my GI bill while in the service and use it when I get out so that I could be able to reach U.S History for HighSchool. And people. Let's not talk crap about the different branches. Act civil. Please.

"In wars, the old and bitter take advantage of the young and stupid." Remember that and come back alive, dude. Im not from the U.S. but hey, theres no reason to not wish someone a safe trip... or... job shift? Idk... u know what i mean.

Edited by Engrapadora : 3/6/2015 2:24:44 AMHow does it feel to risk your life while committing war crimes and working against the interests of the American people, all for the purpose of filling the pockets of the corporate elite and the Military Industrial Complex? Thank you for your service, and remember kids, if you ever question the military, then you are a terrorist.

Do the GI bill. It'll eat a lot of your pay that first year but it's totally worth it. It basically pays you about 1200 a month to go to college full time. It paid for my college, rent and bought me a motorcycle when I got out. DO NOT get a PX card. I've seen a lot of people screw up their finances and get in trouble at work with that crap. DO NOT buy a new car when you get to your base. Local car dealers prey on young troops with bad deals and high payments. DO get some college classes done while in. DO get laid. It's the freest time of your life. Enjoy it, but...... DO NOT hook up with local single moms. They're looking for those easy benefits off you and will probably cheat on you while you're deployed. But.... If you're married DO have your kids while in. Average hospital bill for a civilian- $3-5K. Average for military $3-5 hundred. DO NOT fall in with guys who just want to get drunk on the weekends. I knew guys while stationed in Europe who did nothing but that. Didn't see anything in Europe, no travel, no local flavor, no nothing. DO NOT do drugs of any sort. You will get busted and kicked out. Then you gotta go home and explain that shit to your friends and that's embarrassing. Knew a girl who got kicked out for doing coke after her first year. She couldn't tell her parents the truth so she stayed in Valdosta and told them she was still in. She started stripping to afford some crappy apartment and survive for 3 years while dancing for guys she used to serve with. Humiliating. At least she was hot though. Prey you get an over seas base. Stateside bases are the worst. People get bored with no real mission stateside and just start infighting. My first base was in Valdosta ga, nothing but back stabbing and gossip. Then got stationed in England, best workplace ever.

-
Hey did you all know being a driver (taxi, truck, bus, etc) is more dangerous than being in the military?
-
Branch? MOS? Find out if your state charges state taxes while active.
-
Congratulations dude!!!

I saw that you're asking for active duty or retired to give you words of encouragement but I'm neither but I have come from a very long line of military families, 5th generation military and soon to be 3rd generation Air Force, and all I have to say is this; thank you for your service and deciding to join the greatest military on the face of the Earth, and the hardest thing about being in the military isn't the work or the hours, it's being away from your family. That is always the hardest thing for military families, is being away, my dad has been Army for 20 and has only been in my life for around a little under half and the hardest thing to accept with military life is that you're going to have to be away from your family, ALOT, especially in times of war. So again, thank you for your upcoming service, you are the true face of America, all the fighting men and women of this country.

Do you enjoy being a pawn?
-
That's awesome
-
You will eventually deviate from your plan...

I signed up the day I turned 18. Got the GI bill, extended a year to go to Sicily. Had a blast, just wasn't for me. Got tired of having to listen to people that generally sucked at life because of there rank and time in service. Enjoy your trip! P.s. Do everything you can to make rank before heading off to boot camp. You can get promoted all the way to E-4 if you brown nose enough. Seriously worth it in the long run.

Everyone shut the hell up. I bet 95% of you dont know a damn thing about the military, and what goes on in the line of combat. Being an ex marine, i know what its like to be in combat. I have seen some shit you guys would not believe. This man is risking his life for YOU. All of you putting him down and that this is a pawn. The military is not a bunch of search and destroys. You want to sit in a room in the middle of Pakistan with a Barret 50. Cal for four days, making sure no one passes a gas station sign. Please, unless you have been in the military or any line of duty, shut the -blam!- up.
-
3 of my uncles are in the military
-
Don't fight for the country, fight for what you think the country should stand for. This place is corrupt as hell.
-
And thank you for keeping my car filled up with gas
-
I would join but I went to the doctor and I told him I was a republican and conservative so he diagnosed me with Autism. So I'm just waiting on God to heal me with his space magic.

ITT edgy, ignorant keyboard warriors.

You think you could send me some souvenirs from other countries. I wanna know what it's like to be poor.

Edited by LightTehRing94: 3/5/2015 9:44:24 PMWell, you got balls bro, but realize that the military has not been protecting anyone's freedoms for awhile. I applaud you for having the balls to put your life at risk, but it definitely isn't for a good cause. You're just a pawn unfortunately.

What branch?

Dude, congratulations for doing what you're doing
