How does Explosive Rounds work exactly?

Can anyone help explain how exactly explosive rounds work in the game. Advantages and disadvantages. Thx

  • I've been using the Badger ccl for a bit now. it has the explosive rounds perk. I find it very useful as it staggers all enemies hit. it does a portion of the weapons damage as aoe (the explosion) on how much the damage is reduced is unclear as it does the same damage when I use other perks then explosive rounds. I find the the explosion does far more damage as if the targets arms and legs get hit by it they are damaged, each by about half damage to the actual hit. so that one shot just became 3 + stagger as for downsides it does make critical kills harder as the explosion might kill them instead of the actual shot. headshots are a bit more difficult but deal far more damage in my experience. as far as I can tell the explosive rounds perk on a scout rifle are really worth keeping. on a hand canon, not so much as it relies on critical kills.

They stagger all enemies in the area of explosion and usually adds bonus damage versus damage you would do without the perk. Very usefull in cases you would almost 1 shot kill an enemy without the perk. Like fb almost 1 shot kills goblins in vog and with explosive rounds it does it almost every time. Downside is that as said crit kills are harder to achieve, since it counts the crit damage first, and its against most enemies too low to kill so the explosive non critical damage actually kills the enemy. Leading to that all crit kill perks wont trigger, like FBs outlaw and firefly. Id still like to know why explosive rounds add that BONUS damage most of the time. Since it says in the decription it only deals portion of the total damage as explosion, not add anything.

i am pretty sure you still do the same ammount of damage total. Just want to make sure that is clear to you. it is only harder to get PRECISION kills....but "kill" time in general shuold not go down. If anything, you will end up diong 1 more total damage due to the game rounding up

PVP wise... Pros: 1: Damage is dealt in an area. Meaning, you don't necessarily have to hit something dead on to deal damage. Example: If someone is sitting around a corner outside if your line of sight, shooting the ground around their feet will damage them. But not as much as it would if you hit them dead on, 2: The AoE (area of effect) damage does not decrease overall damage, rather, it spreads it out. You can damage a crowd of enemies with every shot. 3: Explosive rounds are easy to hit targets with because of their nature, and are well suited to Scout Rifles in close quarters because of this. 4: Every round staggers a target, makes their screen shake and flash, and causes their controller to vibrate violently, making Scout Rifles with explosive rounds deadly in one-on-one battles. Cons: 1: Precision kills are difficult to get, because only a portion of the damage counts as precision damage, lessening the damage itself. It's easy to off someone with the non-precision portion, as well. 2: Explosive rounds tend to be less effective at long range, where precision damage tends to dampen, depending on the weapon you're using. 3: Explosive rounds aren't very well suited to hand cannons post-patch, because of their range reduction. 4: Though they generally reduce your opponent's TTK, yours is reduced as well due to half of your precision damage counting as normal damage. Your TTK reduction factor is absolute. Theirs is not; they may make their shots anyways. Any questions?

    • It's garbage don't use it. Takes about 1/3 of the normal damage your weapon does and applies it as an AOE effect but especially with a hand cannon like fatebringer don't expect to one shot any normal mobs near your level with headshots.

      • If the bullets hit a wall or target, they will explode and cause additional damage to the impact, plus damage other enemies. It is helpful if someone is sitting between a wall nod a corner, you could shoot the wall behind them and damage them, if the wall is close enough to the enemy.

They deal additional damage. An extra 50% of your regular damage is dealt both to your primary target and other targets (very) close by. I have a Rare high-impact Hand Cannon with this perk. It deals 165 damage to a Vandal, plus an additional 83 from the explosion. That means it takes two body shots to kill a Vandal without the perk, and only one body shot to kill with it. I have no idea where these other guys got their facts, but simply playing with the perk on yields noticeable results.

          • It takes away about 1/3 of your damage on your actual target, and hits with about half of that 1/3 on everything around with kinetic damage. They're useful in the abyss and nothing but the abyss. A DPS down and can easily be outmatched by anything else

          • Your damage is split up. Around 2/3 is normal damage and 1/3 is explosive damage. Witch can hurt more than one enemy. I find it completely useless
