So far in this game, one of the dullest parts(i would say) are the patrol missions.
For one, there is nothing special to them at all, its either kill X amount of enemies, scout an area..... (stand in one spot for 10 seconds...... really?), collect certain items from enemies that you kill, etc.....
The problem that i really am seeing is that there wasn't much thought given to the whole system. Like it was an afterthought.
But, what could we possibly do to make it more interesting.
Here is an idea,
When my friends and I were doing some patrol missions for a bounty, I got a green drop from an enemy (wonderful). Green item drops in the game are considered uncommon, but the patrol mission icons are also green.
And then it clicked, What if patrol missions could have different rarities based on their color?
Think about it for a second, you are doing one of the patrol mission bounties on a planet or just exploring, and you run into a purple/orange blinking light. You don't know what it is so you press the select/back button and it shows you a mission icon you haven't seen before. Of course you are going to activate it to see what it is, because it rewards you with really great items based on the rarity! See? You can see where in going with this. Blue mission (Blue+ item) , purple (Legendary+) , and orange mission (exotic random class or class specific), pretty much like engrams.
The missions could range in difficulty based on which color it is, where it would take you on a story based mission to EXPLAIN the story more fluidly filling out areas that we are uncertain of or just have questions. The missions could be as simple as to blow up a fallen station, or exterminate a hive stronghold, or for the rarer missions it could be almost like a mini raid like "where did the vex come from", or you could find a ghost from a long dead guardian that knows different pieces of info from the past (VERBALLY told to us, we don't want to know what happened through the Grimoire).
There are some flaws to this idea though, like the fact that people ARE going to try to farm them. It's not so much of a problem really, but it would take out the whole experience of finding them.
Another is the fact that people would be turned off to the whole idea if the missions were just copy and paste with same objectives and enemies
I know this isn't a perfect idea, and it probably wouldn't be able to make it in the game of destiny that we have now. Maybe destiny 2 or 3 who knows. I just thought it was a good idea and i thought it was worth sharing
=) Good Luck making your Destiny Guardians

I patrol.. allot.. as I like exploring, fighting random ads and looking for loot. Not a bad idea. I just wish they would update the bounties to go along with them. Just changing those up would be re-refreshing.

Love your idea I only wish it could happen and hopefully Bungie see it.

How about we put a bounty on the cry patches head. Hell be hiding on Venus and we break down the door rob him of his engrams and shoot thorn down his throat

Edited by Muddlin Through: 3/4/2015 1:26:58 AMI like patrols, but I do wish there were more variety. I am unsure how bounties as loot drops would work. Where would they be stored? When I go on patrol, I usually have a full complement of 10 bounties. Guess it would be OK it it populated to the postoffice if your bounties section was full. However, I suspect that players would feel disappointed that they did not get gear from a drop that looked like a loot dodecahedron. Perhaps if it was a different shape so that the expectation would be different. But, again there should be some bonus (Vanguard marks, 200 experience, etc.) in addition to the level item for completing it. IMHO, patrols could be made better with 3 steps: 1. More variety (scan more and different things at different places, kill type of enemy in a specific place, find ghost at certain location, go to public event at certain location, retrieve certain item from certain location, use a specific type of weapon (Auto Rifle, Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, etc.) to kill certain creature, etc.) 2. Prevent patrol missions from sending you back to the location you just left (i.e. when you exhaust all of the missions in the Divide so the marker takes you to the Rocket Yard. Then the mission from the Rocket Yard takes you back to the Divide). 3. Linked patrol missions that make a mini-story. (i.e. Kill Fallen in the divide, Kill Fallen leader near the Divide. Find out that the fallen are in mass due to increased Hive activity & directed to the Rocket Yard to quell the Hive. Find out the hive are eminating from the Refinery, so sent to scan the entrance to the Hive in the Refinery. Discover the Hive leader responsible for the increased activity and kill him/her/it.).
