Same boat here. On top of your techniques, I have an exercise bike in front of a TV and I try to bike for an hour each day (and play Destiny at the same time). Tough for her to argue against me working out.

I use a recumbent bike. A Schwinn. $280 new. The recumbent allows for better aiming control. I've gone for two hours on that thing before and didn't realize it.
