The FAMILY MAN struggle
Any other family peeps out there have to balance Destiny with work, kids and a wife/girlfriend? My wife puts up with Destiny but it's mostly because I don't play till kids are tucked in and read to and I try and watch a show of my wife's choosing before jumping on. Stay on late get up early... Worth it!
What is everyone's ritual for getting to Destiny without getting in trouble with the family?
Edit: I love that I'm not alone in this. I can't believe how many people have the identical schedule as mine! Must be why I always find good randoms when I'm on, we are all family men. #destinydadsunite

Edit: WOW GUYS AND GALS!!! I woke up to hundreds more comments and 99% of them are positive! It's amazing to see so many good family peeps finding a healthy balance between gaming, work and family. You people are amazing and I'm not sure I've smiled so much reading these posts.

1 ReplyI'm about to join this club. My first will be born any day now. Fortunately I already run on about 4-5 hours of sleep a day anyway, though I know a newborn will bring a completely new level of sleep deprivation.

1 ReplyI have two kids. The oldest is 2, the youngest is 5 months. I only play when they are both asleep. The wife doesn't mind how much I play, but I don't like to take time way from my little ones.

My girlfriend watched me play the other day, trying to see why I play and understand it. All I could tell her is I don't have time to explain why j don't have time to explain, and that that wizard came from the moon. She thought that was pretty funny and kept trying to get me to explain more....I did not. Lol

I juggle 2 baby's, 2 jobs 1 wife I get to play as and when I can, the wife is good she actually like watching me play!! Stay strong guardians. ;-)

Same script in my house, it's when it's 10.00pm and she says just one more episode of gotham and ur heart sinks, it's a Tuesday night and nightfall is waiting.

Full time job, wife, 2 kids (6 and 3) Whats worked best for us is setting up daily limits. 90 mins and I usually try not to play on Monday nights. Its become MUCH easier now that I basically have nothing left to do in the game outside of PVP. When HoW drops though we'll go back to the no limit Tuesdays! Spending time with the kids is easy, but only playing when they go to bed neglects some crucial wife time.

Edited by JVillaKnows: 3/4/2015 2:19:27 PMI got a wife, 2 year old, in the military working on a boat, deployed 2 months at a time, travel out of state for training, stand 24 hour duty on ship once every six days.....got 3 lvl 31s currently and basically a xmas n00b. I manage to balance everything and have time for all the weekly stuff and raids....oh I workout too. All about time management brah.....oh and keeping the wife and toddler happy :)

Exact same routine as me when I am home. I travel for work so when I'm on the road I get caught up on sleep. Haha Now if RNGeasus would only recognize my struggle and present me with red death...

Maybe play for a hour. Usually on the weekends. Maybe on some weekdays.

My other half puts up with my destiny time but he does whinge every time he hears me say lets raid lol. oh lol i forgot about the time a clan member had been told to wash the kitchen floor and raided instead lol he wasnt on for about 3 days afterwards.oh yea and one member had his destiny disc snapped by gf! I think you have to try balance it with your family a healthy balance

1 ReplyIt used to be terrible trying to play and entertain my girlfriend (that I've been with for 6 years, that hates when I play any game especially Destiny) now it's almost perfect because she gave me an ultimatum, Her or Destiny..... I'm no longer with her... Now me and my Destiny will live happily ever after... Nah I'm joking but She works evenings now and gets off late so I do the 9-5 get off workout then go straight to Destiny.. I'm never ready to get off but I try to be done by the time she gets off.

I usually just wait till they go to bed to play or just work on bounties so if I need to stop to take care of something real world it's no big deal. My oldest is into games now(Minecraft) sometimes I'll let him run around on the cosmodrome. Luckily my wife gets the can't pause thing.

You are NOT alone my friend. My situation is similar to yours. My Daily routine is pretty much like this. Wake up at 5:30, bust ass to get myself ready for work and kids fed and ready for school. Drop said kids off at before school care then drive 45 mins to work. Work (8-4:30), rush home to get kids to some kind of sport (where I am probably the coach) or dance class, get home eat/make dinner and help kids with homework. Wife finally gets home to help get kids in bed (which at 11 and 8 should not be this hard still, grrrr). Hang with the wife (watch a show) and then somewhere between 9-10ish (or whenever she falls asleep) I RUN down to my man cave and play for a couple of hours. Then around 11:30ish FORCE myself (because I still want to play) to go to bed to wake up and repeat. Stay strong out there my fellow family man guardians.

My girlfriend is pretty laid back atm we've just moved into our first house I'm 22 she's 20 and we've got a little boy on the way in June so I think destiny will have to take a back seat don't know how I find the time now with the daft hours I work.

my wife works monday 3:30 pm to midnight, wednesday, 3:30 to midnight or 4:30 to 8:30 and every other weekend (friday is considered the weekend) . so i mostly play on those days Tuesday and Thursday we have her son my step son so i try not to play those days unless there is nothing on TV.

Same here my friend, work 55+ hours a week, 3 kids and thankfully a wife who puts up with my gaming habits. It's a balancing act, that's for sure, but as they say 'happy wife, happy life.'

Same, I have a newborn now so I have to limit the nights I do it to 3 at the most. My daughter likes playing the tower dancing game (easy way for me to grab easy bounties) but no violent game watching so it's still a struggle.

The struggle is real--LOL! Trust me, I know what you go through and I have a similar routine. It didn't start with playing Destiny though. I have my long-standing addiction to COD to thank for that.
