The FAMILY MAN struggle
Any other family peeps out there have to balance Destiny with work, kids and a wife/girlfriend? My wife puts up with Destiny but it's mostly because I don't play till kids are tucked in and read to and I try and watch a show of my wife's choosing before jumping on. Stay on late get up early... Worth it!
What is everyone's ritual for getting to Destiny without getting in trouble with the family?
Edit: I love that I'm not alone in this. I can't believe how many people have the identical schedule as mine! Must be why I always find good randoms when I'm on, we are all family men. #destinydadsunite

Edit: WOW GUYS AND GALS!!! I woke up to hundreds more comments and 99% of them are positive! It's amazing to see so many good family peeps finding a healthy balance between gaming, work and family. You people are amazing and I'm not sure I've smiled so much reading these posts.

5 RepliesI feel ur pain brother!!! The struggle is real!! I have the same problem, I have to wait for the wife n kids to go to bed before I can even play. I can only play on Thursday - Saturday nights from like 10pm to 2am . The other nights I can't even play to work ,so I can't stay up late on those nights to play. So I never really get to raid which sucks a lot. So with that being said any one willing to help me out on those night do the raid would b nice. But I'm getting away from ur point, yes it is hard to game when u have a wife n kids .

I playwhen my son is sleep like at 8 pm and my wife watch her shows on Netflix on either her phone or her iPad.. So basically I can play after 8/8 30 like 2 or 3 hours..

Sounds exactly like my situation. Destiny nights are Tuesday and Thursday basically I can play Destiny as soon as I've put my daughter to bed. Other nights it's my wife's choice what we watch on TV until she goes to bed and then Destiny again. Late nights and early mornings. It's going to catch up with me eventually... till then party on :-)

I work an early shift so I get home around noon. Kids are still in school so I play till the get home. I also have a good group that texts me when they are doing raids. so I can get on for an hour here and there. Yes my wife is very tolerant and I am lucky she "likes to watch". Lol

This is my past experience, as I do not have a girlfriend anymore :/. Anyways, we worked with completely opposite shifts. So the deal was I would play while she was at work. As soon as she got home I would spend time with her. Turns out it still wasn't enough.... -blam!- my life :p lol.

I get home and eat and my daughter (shes 5 this month) begs my wife to watch daddy play destiny. Lol We put her to bed at 8. I watch 1-3 shows with the wife. She goes to bed between 9-11. I then play destiny until 1 or 2 am. Rinse and repeat. I sleep in on saturdays. My wife doesnt game unless we play peggle. Her hand eye coordination sucks.

4 RepliesNot too bad for me. Wife and 3 kids. I play a couple of nights a week. My kids actually like watching me play because they like all of the action. I wear my headset so they can't hear people cussing and it works out. So I kind of get the best of both. Spending time with the family and playing destiny. I do try my best to finish whatever I'm doing if the wife says she wants me to stop.

I play late nights and some afternoons, helps that I share my play time with my son and its a constant conversation in the house and opportunity for father/son bonding as he is really into Destiny as well. The wifey puts up with it, but is not a fan . . .

Get another system and have wife play with you problem solved working on getting another so the kids can with us lol

Having a full time job, rent, and a gf is hard enough I couldn't imagine adding a kid right now, I mostly play on reset day only, and I get up really early to do it lol. Any other times its like an hour of crucible at most

My schedule is pretty much the same, Working a full-time job, helping with my wife's photography job, getting a non-profit off the ground and going to school at night while raising three kids keeps the schedule pretty full. Although we usually watch some shows that we [b]both[/b] enjoy before I take over the big screen. She saves the shows that only she likes for when I'm playing and she want's to sit next to me on the tablet or when she's working at her computer. The timing of everything only affords me a few hours per week during the week, but I make up for it on Friday night staying up much later since I don't have to worry about getting up early for work. I have to admit that I've overdone it here and there, which can cause some frustration and tension, but my wife's amazing about it and we always work it out. It's great to see so many adults into gaming, talking about prioritizing hobbies below work and family, it's great to keep your values and priorities in line!

I have some of the same issues. My wife works 3rd shift and I play on her work nights. I have a good clan of solid players that help me get the important things done. Look me up if any of you need help with raids or NFs. The guys in my clan are all very helpful and as a group we get the most out of the game. Good luck with the struggle.

2 RepliesUnlike most, I play from about 5:30-8:00 pm on nights we don't have activities. We have 3 xbox 360s so my fireteam (me and the two older boys 9 & 10) can wreck house. Then I switch over to my xbone and get on with some friends or do bounties if I need to upgrade anything. On weekends I raid with the boys on 360. And do general fun stuff. We all started new characters this week to see who could reach 32 first....

I play in the AM before anyone is up (5am-7am) and 4am on reset days. I also play sometimes in the afternoon during my daughter's "wind down" time. My wife and I have a nice agreement. She like to record her soaps and watch them at night. I game on Tuesday and Thursday (after the little one goes down) and she watches her shows on those days. It works out great.

1 ReplyI generally wait til the kids are in bed the bring out the 2nd tv in the living room, had my headset on my right ear and mrs on the left, so I can play and hear destiny whilst 'talking' to the mrs ;)

Wife 3 kids. Reset.. I get up some time near reset..3 am and clear the nightfall maybe a weekly or two, and finish them up after work. This gets the "dog that's wants to run off the porch to chase the cars" look off my face. The rest of the week I grab time here and there, I can stop at a moment's notice. A bit rough with raids. Getting some flack doing catch up atm. Many nights Mrs and I watch tv after the kids are in bed..one of us falls asleep. If it's me I generally wake up at some point and make my way to bed. If it's my wife...play time is on. The issue now.. if I start a raid at night..and I don't follow her to bed, until it's over... Well that's an issue. I can pick a couple nights and this works fine. Issue then is, catching up on VoG I missed out on as I didn't start raiding til Crota came out. Right now she is working some extra hours from home, so that's gives me some extra time as well. So yeah it's fun to balance it, down to 2 items on crota hard..7 on normal, so relief shouldn't be too far away.

2 RepliesYup, I'm in the same happy boat too. Lol. Just bought "the kids" an Xbox 360 for chrimbo. Lol The Mrs "doesn't mind" me staying up a few nights a week and I get a bit more time on the weekends, as long as the kids aren't about. She's has whinged a bit recently though and doesn't like the idea of me using a mic!!!!!!!!!! Its a bit of a struggle progressing, not sure how long I'm on for so can't usually commit to raids, of n I seem to suck at crucible. Need to make a few more friends on Xbox live n get a bit of help. Games so dam addictive though.

Same situation, but still not been able to raid as lfg not been productive for me (ps3 and no Mic) but had some great games with randoms you just click with.

I rarely play anymore, I got everything from both CE raids and have a 32 of each class and only missing ghorn for exotics. So I'm avoiding conflict with the gf until house of puppies drops lol

No kids yet, thankfully. But work 50 hours a week (60 every other week), college full time, and a fiancée. We're getting married in June so it's a lot of planning. She works nights though, so I usually get a few days a week to run nightfall, crota and vault.

Right there with you man. Although my gaming time has changed a lot over the years, but I get in as much as I can. luckily I have a "free" weekend every other week as my wife works and my kids are with their mom. I make sure to get my "duties" done, ride my bike for awhile when it's warm out, then game the rest of the day :D The big problem for me is, is trying to balance everything above, playing destiny and playing my other games. Sometimes I have to take a break from Destiny so I can actually knock out my other games. Currently I am working on Evolve, Dying light (beat it but have a lot left to do), Diablo 3 here n there, plus many others lol.
