Hola
I'm I'm the market for a new headset. A friend of mine uses the turtle beach px4, and jiggly recommends them. We also spoke about the stealth 500p as its the newer model and now 7.1 surround sound.
After doing some research, I noticed the 500p have mixed reviews. People are saying their uncomfortable, build quality, and even some are saying not so great sound. One reviewer had said the 400's sound better, but their not surround sound. It also even seems like the px4 could still be the best option.
I've narrowed my search down to
Turtle beach stealth 500p
Turtle beach stealth px4
Turtle beach stealth 400 (last choice, not surround)
Any suggestions under $150? I'm not spending 3-400 on a headset....I'm not that hard core lol.

I ended up getting the elite 800...their insane.

Edited by Haunting1: 3/7/2016 10:33:33 PMalmost a year later respond to this post why the hell not ;) IMO the 500p which I own is worth the extra $30 build and the surround sound is a no brainer the 400 is good which I returned for the 500 the 800 sounds better but it doesn't sound double the price better if I'm spending $300 on headphones I'm buying Bose or another quality manufactures headset not a plastic gaming headset. I do own several pair of Bose, I have owned and gamed with the Beats Studio wireless for awhile but they are not worth the street price, the hurt your head after an hour or two of use due to the tightness of them and again the sound quality of those vs the lesser Turtle beach 500P is it better? Yeah maybe for listening to music the beats sound a little better is it so much better it's worth the almost $400 price tag. no not at all. There are a lot of really over priced name brand products out there that you have to realize you are paying a good 40% just for the name. I've owned a lot of head phones in my time there are only 2 that stand out to me and I still own and use them as being "worth" the price paid. Point being it's something you have to decide on Sound quality & comfort vs price. For obvious reasons a more expensive headset should sound better than a cheap one not "Always the case" but in most instances this holds true better research and design, better drivers / hardware, better cables ect. In the case of the 400p, 500p and 800 I like the 500 myself the 800 is great if the price was a little lower maybe step up from the 500 maybe around the $200 range I'd probably be sold on them being worth upgrading to but at $300 they are not worth it. at $130 the 500P sound just as good. neither the 400 or 500 have bluetooth so if that's of some concern to you then may as well take them out off the table both can be plugged into your cell or any other device via a 3.5m cable Bose QC20i & Shure SE545 Both are very expensive head sets but the sound quality is second to none each has it's own purpose why I still own and use both. Neither would make an ideal gaming headset but they do work fine and I've used them as such on the road as I travel for work usually my PS4 or gaming laptop will accompany me for the trip.

I have the Stealth 400s, wife got them for my B-Day. The sound quality is pretty great, separate volume controls for chat and game, you can use them as AUX to any device. The only thing I really don't like is that they are pretty damn tight when fully extended (for a guy with an average sized head), and my ears touch the rough inside of the bass sometimes. Another cool feature, before I forget, is you can leave the volume up on your TV as well as the headset, just in case someone else wants to hear the game. My wife likes to hear the games I'm playing.

Purchase an Astro headset. Use code "REKT" for 5% off

Get something with the leather earphone. The mesh that turtle has SUCKs. I bought the PX22 when I got my ps4. While they do work and sound great, they can get painful to wear if you play more than a Coue hours a day everyday of the week
-
Just buy the $20 Turtle Beach one It works the best imo and you don't sound like Megatron when you're in a party
-
I've had my tritton ax 720s for 7 years and they still work like brand new. By far best headset. You're welcome and enjoy
-
PX 4 are pretty good
-
PlayStation Gold headset is a good headset IMO

Just went to best buy with the intentions of buying the 800 elites. They had both the stealth 500's and the elites available to demo. After trying on the stealth 500p, they were a lot more comfortable than what most of the reviews that turned me off suggested. Ending up buying those, I'll try them out for a week. With best buys return policy if I feel after a week they're not up to par I'll go back and exchange for the 800's. Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated.

Edited by Rock Bottom: 3/7/2015 6:07:58 PMI've managed to talk myself into buying 3 headsets for my PS4 since I bought it. First, I bought the Sony Gold. Not bad at all for $100. No real complaints other than the battery life and large ear cups. I sold them when the Turtle Beach Stealth series came out and picked up the Stealth 400's. Again, not bad. I liked the battery life and comfort of the mesh padding on the ear cups. Sound was great but was limited to stereo. Since then, I have taken back the 400's and exchanged them for the 500p. Sound is a bit bass heavy, but between the DTS surround presets and the EQ presets, you're likely to find something you like. The ear cup padding is a bit stiff, but feels like it will soften in time. Overall, after owning all three, I'd recommend the 500p.

I've owned the 500ps for a few months now and I enjoy them quite a bit. They were kind of uncomfortable at first but I think I adjusted to it. The sound quality is good. My only complaint is the popping sounds that sometimes happen randomly, or when you turn the headset off after the console is off. Other than that it's a solid purchase. Stay away from the Sony gold/silver headsets.

I have the px4 they're pretty good. My ears tend to ache if I wear them for more than a couple hours at a time, and I've heard others complain of the same thing.
-
I got Kingston HyperX cloud gaming headset and love it. For $70 - $90 it's a steal for the quality it presents.
-
I like my steel series v/2

Edited by A high-value target: 3/4/2015 1:41:01 AMSorry call me naive but why are people spending anymore than they have to on headsets? I just use the one provided with my PS4, are you guys not able to hear people or can people not hear you? What do you need the extra clarity for? Has there been a situation where, due to a communication breakdown, you haven't been able to play the game to its full potential? Honestly just want to know what spending more money to hear people's bad mics will do for you?

I got the ps4 wireless 2.0 gold one and it's excellent well worth the money ... It cost me £80 so I would imagine it would be around $100-$120... Built in mic and has surround sound ( don't know if that's standard it's the first expensive head set I've bought)
-
I bought Kingston HyperX...very nice and under 100 us on amazon...They are corded but I just bought extension and they are great...Imo Turtles are the bottom of the barrel when there are so many better choices.
-
I'm just going to bite the bullet and get the elite 800's. It's pretty much a one time purchase so I may as well do it right.
-
The PX4 is SOLID. The battery trashes everything else out there.
-
I got my px4's in January, gotta say the best I've owned, really great sound and comfortable too.
-
So many people are recommending the Sony golds as best bang for your buck...however the 500p are 10 bucks more at new egg. On paper their far superior...this is confusing lol
-
Ps4 Gold man! Awesome headset! $80
-
I'm seeing ps gold a lot so that must be the newer model but definitely the best for your money, I'll probably buy the newer model soon, my dog has torn mine to shit and I've had to sew them lol

Edited by Blame Activision: 3/4/2015 9:40:01 AMStealth 500p is the worst headset I have ever used, absolute crap. Uncomfortable, expensive, always disconnecting, muting me, muting my party, it's literally awful. Buy anything other than the 500P Check out VMODA's headphones and their boom pro mic, it makes the most comfortable and best sounding headset I have ever used.

I can't recommend the astro a40's more Got mine second hand for 150
