That's what happened to a thread of mine at the Destiny forum entitled, "The Last Word needs a nerf". I can only assume that a good amount of users over there reported it and now it's in the Ninja's que for moderation.
The original post itself is quite innocent; it really is a simple request for a weapon to be nerfed. There's no bad language, no offensive content, and it most certainly isn't spam. However, the responses I've gotten are some of the most vile and hateful things I've seen in my time on bungie.net. Here are some examples from the thread:
Shove your damn PvP nerfs up your ass

Shutup pussy waaaa Waaaa cry babys

Yet another crying nerf thread stfu and man up you pole dancing chimp

No f\/ck you.

Fùcking fàggots always bitching
Go away
And so on. #Destiny has big problem in terms of hostile users, and I see very little being done about it. I assume those same hostile users reported my thread, and now I'm at risk while they get away scot-free to continue spewing their vile words at people. And they keep doing it. It's not just my threads; I see these users do the same thing in other threads.
How can there be a discussiom of topics on #Destiny if a mass amount of users abuse the report button on threads they simply disagree with? The report button is not a "disagree button"; if they really don't like what I or others have to say, then they can hide my posts or just mute me. But they shouldn't be reporting threads and responding to them in a vile manner.
Anyone else think this is a problem?

Buuu ... As of right now I seen people using scoutrifles. hand cannons. Pulse rifles. Snipers And almost everyone's favorite shotguns .. It's rare to see a autorifle now thanks to cry baby's like you posting stupid shit about a -blam!-ing nerf .. I am glad you got reported ...

Edited by Bah Weep Grana: 3/4/2015 2:53:14 PMThat's what someone sent me. brad
You can talk all you want on here but if you and I where to ever meet I'd kill ya just so there is one less fag in this world that's all talk and having my military background it wouldn't be to hard
Edited by Vikingspartan54: 3/14/2015 11:08:39 AMYou shouldn't ask for nerfs but rather buffs if shotguns can reach out to touch them a tiny bit further and auto rifles were returned pre patch 1.1.1 the last word wouldn't be as bad but nerfing other weapons leaves less counters to guns hence they get used more.

It is a problem. Certain members will abuse tools available to them. But that doesn't mean those actions negatively affect the reported member. Feel confident if your post didn't violate the CoC and there should be no risk.
The report button is not a "disagree button"; if they really don't like what I or others have to say, then they can hide my posts or just mute me. But they shouldn't be reporting threads and responding to them in a vile manner.
This is exactly right. The Report button is for marking posts which violate the bungie.net Code of Conduct.

This is a very poor community with little to no moderation. It is basically someone complaining and then someone else using profanity to them or telling them to off themselves. Same stuff over and over and there's never any moderation until a post like this comes about. Then we maybe see one "ninja." Yes I realize they can't look at everything, but it is a job they accepted. If they can't do it get more or quit. However, at the rate this game is going it will not be around in a couple of months.....years. Sad cause I enjoy the game. Just not the community.

Stop a bit that game you dont like and start thinking about an alternative to capitalism

It's an unfortunate side effect. Shacker is right in that you have nothing to worry about in regards to moderation against you. These people should be using "mute" instead of "report," but this is an instance of inappropriate use of a tool and not an inappropriate tool in itself. Polite feedback about moderation is always welcome, to me at least.

Second that ...had the same issue with several posts.... Mixed in with actual useful advice.....huge turn off to destiny as a whole Little kids with loud fingers is what I said...to a bungie guy ...that always watching..... Not gonna be apart of this community....just check it for weeklies /updates Already feel like it's a lost cause

That shouldn't have been reported and you're entitled to your opinion, but seriously... Meg, The Last Word?
-
Unfortuntely, we could make the most normal post and wed still get hostile and vile remarks from people who believe their superiority is at stake.

You knew exactly what you were doing when you posted a "nerf this gun" post. Learn from the people before you. Realize your obviously gonna get trolled for saying something like that and don't say it? It's so simple it's crazy. But again your probably one that loves attention and you relished in your trolling which is why you posted this forum. For attention. It's okay though. Goodluck getting guns nerfed. And try not to let this hurt your ever so sensitive feeling? Aye

Edited by Cobravert: 3/2/2015 7:00:14 PMThe tone of a lot of newer users is extremely harsh and with no apparent concern of making posts that are not filled with all manner of explicit insults or general douchbaggery. I think we could blame the webteam for these. Sure they didn't post them, but they enable it. This leads back into the whole discussion of B.old to B.next, but it is fundamentally where it all fell apart. Until the web team see fit to actually do something more than self moderation tools (which effectively do very little to quell this very problem), and reinstate ACTUAL rules with REAL enforcement, it will never improve. B.net will continue to degrade and decline because new people are seeing HOW NOT to act on this site, and as long as they see it being ok, then they will adopt the same mentality, furthering the problem. Reporting only does so much if no one cares to do it when it is obviously needed. Misuse of reporting as in this case where they close a non-abusive thread should also be addressed.

Edited by XephyrHawk: 3/2/2015 10:28:40 PMI feel your pain, I own the last word and it's TTK is ridiculous if you can hip fire it well but as for the people being hateful, I suffer bullying in real life and no one has the right to do something so demoralising and mean in life but on a forum, submit their names to bungie and your story and let the ban hammer have no mercy

Edited by Xiphos119: 3/2/2015 5:36:47 PMI do agree these people should not get away with that kind of behavior. Regardless of this being the Internet, that kind of behavior should not be tolerated. The problem is, these kind of posts are so persistent and the Ninjas are so outnumbered at this point. Yes, these kinds of things will always happen, but it can be reduced. I would think Ninjas go through reported posts for context, but if your thread was clear of any offenses, I don't see why you would get that message. The only thing I could think of is your post should have been in #Feedback. I hope you reported said users who were being overly aggressive toward you because you held a different opinion than them. I do think there is a problem with the user base as a whole and the moderation (it's a topic I could go in for a while about.) I hope your thread is restored and the appropriate action is taken against the users who were hostile to you. As a friendly reminder, it is impossible for the Ninjas to be everywhere at once and catch every rule violator, as I'm sure you're aware, so remember to utilize the report button and just hope for the best.
