The Iron Banner is one of those events that a lot of people don't run because they tend to shy away from the multiplayer. As a player who largely focuses on single player in all aspects of a game. I didn't really like the Iron Banner until about four months ago back when I reached level 30 and said that it was sufficient enough to enter. What I found there was amazing! (So long as I went in with a party of three or greater.)
Iron Banner gave me experience that I was only finding in the raid and once people ran that, you generally don't run it again until the next week. The Iron Banner is like a new level of a Raid every match. It's difficult, grueling, and you aren't always garenteed that you are going to win but in the end, if you stick to your team talk out your tactics and really work together, you get some of the sweetest loot in Destiny. Not sweetest as in most powerful or coolest looking (Though Gold armor is still pretty bitching) but weapons that can follow you through the next level caps are raises for two motes of light. In terms of mudflation (The act of older gear becoming less useful over time) These weapons are the best. Every time an Iron Banner rolls around after a DLC drops, you can easily catch back up.
Back to the main point though, Iron Banner is something that isn't fun unless you have three or more players as stated previously. It's the closest thing to clan matches we get and damn the battles are intense. If you want to get our Clan name out there and start learning to work together as a team, this is the place to do it. It's the perfect scenario to capture that cooperation and team building that people usually find in the raid.
As for the single players, it's all about the loot like I stated before but instead of just getting gear that is as good as Raid Gear and also braggin rights. I know it is a bit shallow to say this but if you think about it, those of us still playing Destiny like to be that guy that people look at and say "Where did you get that?" "How did you get that?" or "You must have gotten pretty good in order to achieve the feat of getting that." Whether it is Exotic gear or Legendary, people like that feeling of people saying they look cool. What better way to get that then in the Iron Banner? A competition that is only once a month and has different items most every time. This practically garentees that you have an armor or weapons that few people own or can get at the time. Most studies in Destiny show that people get only one or two items from Iron Banner. The second usually being a random drop that people get. The first being whatever item they can scrounge at level 3 IBR.
My point summed up is that I think we need to start doing the Iron Banner more as a clan rather than as select groups. Next time it comes around I am usually on and playing at Morning from 10am-12pm and night from 7pm-3am. contact me, send me a friend request, do whatever you want to to contact me. I'll be doing Xbox Live and working with your guys that want to. Together, as a clan and as individuals, we can run the 'Tournament' and stand out in the Destiny community. Pretty soon if we start making a mark the heads at Bungie will have to do a spotlight on US.

I'm with you on this bro! I'm usually in the top two when I play, well with connection being considered about 65% of the time... And most of the people I have seen are scrubs trying to get easy armor upgrades...we have a lot of skilled PVP members and if we teamed up there would be little hope of stopping us!
