Earlier today I posted in a few different threads about the concept idea of Dark Guardians. Several people have stated they like the idea and one asked me to post a thread on the concept.
Here I go.
Dark Guardians will be a new enemy to encounter randomly in the PvE environment of Destiny. They are Guardians who have been consumed by the Darkness and made into its new toy to fight the light.
These enemies can appear anywhere from patrolling a planet to the middle of a raid (excluding boss fights). Imagine jumping from platform to platform in the VoG when the room suddenly goes dark. The first thought to cross your mind is a public event is about to take place, but wait your in a raid? Then it dawns on you that a Dark Guardian has invaded the area and your about to be in one hell of a fight.
Specs
-Much more agile and defense oriented than your typical cannon fodder.
-Access to a weakened version of our supers, but get it back in a third of the time (provided they dont die)
-No access to heavy weapons for reasons of wiping less experienced players with ease.
-Each one has a different attack style from sniping to close quarters combat.
-Double the health and shield of a Guardian with no regen on health.
-Can spawn with any range of weapons, exotics included.
-stroudloud: full ammo regen after killing a Dark Guardian.
-tc bendy: have a 5% chance to drop the DG's equipped weapon to a team member.
Thats the base concept Ive designed with much more to go into it.
Someone recommended a PvP list where a actual player drops into a raid crew as the Dark Guardian. I personally love this concept but the raid team would have to opt in on having a actual player to face, doing so though will boost chances for better rewards at all checkpoints.
Icegiant292 recommended cosmetic armor add ons as a reward which would also be a great idea for standing out.
Respawns/Revive for the raid team will be temporarily disabled during the spawn of Dark Guardian as well.
Feel free to add tips.
Edit: Several people have said this sounds like Dark Souls or Warframe. It may sound like a concept they developed too, but I have not played either of these games or looked at the Franchises.
Imagine if during the 3rd raid on hard difficulty, alongside normal encounters; you have to face a "dark" version of each member of your fireteam? This person would be a random pick from your fireteam and would have increased health (but no regen). He'd use the exact same loadout as the original fireteam member and have all the super abilities associated with that member.
I always imagined a raid that is based around going into the absolute pit of darkness; there is no relics, no reviving, no health regen, no light. The only objective is to traverse a large open area riddled with traps and enemies, alongside the occasional boss encounter. At certain points, the team will come across a pool of darkness, rising from it will be what the team will become if they fail (the dark guardian) who they have to kill. What would make it interesting would be that since the dark guardian would be so deadly and randomly chosen, the whole team would have to equip good guns to take it down. This would also give the doppelganger better guns, making him even harder to kill. There would also be the dynamic where; the more members of the fire team there are, the easier it is to kill the dark guardian, but there will be more encounters (one for each member of the team).

Had an idea similiar to this a while back. Those little ghosts we find all over belonged to some dead Guardians right? What if those Guardians didn't die at the hands of the Vex, Cabal, Hive, or Fallen? What if we're being hunted by a rogue fireteam or dark guardians. Each ghost we find is another clue on where we can find these Three Horsemen. It could be a small branching sidequest story. After finding the last ghost your ghost suddenly says "I know where they are! We have to end this" Suddenly you're given coordinates that lead to Earth. You arrive and your ghost leads you to the very first area where the car wrecks and highway is. Off in the distance you see three figures, the dark ones. A hunter, warlock, and titan consumed by the darkness. They simply stand there until you either initiate the fight or get too close. You can't take them by yourself. They're too strong, with the ability to use both supers, just weakened versions (like your idea where they are weak but regen faster). Even with three Guardians this fight will be one of the hardest in Destiny if not THE hardest. No matter what the Dark Guardians would always be 1 or 2 levels higher than the host with a base level of 30. Coming out of the fight victorious would bring rewards of exotics, raid tier weapons and armor, etc. etc.
Maybe buff the chance for weapon drop to 50%? 5 seems low, and more often than not, it will just be a green or blue.
