Why do black people born in America call themselves African Americans? On that note why don't white people call themselves (insert nation of origin here)Americans?
English
-
Some do you stupid -blam!-. Especially Irish and Italian Americans.
-
Oh really? I am stupid because I don't know that some people use that term?I have never once heard any American refer to themselves as an Irish or Italian American. I have heard Irish people refer to themselves as Irish and Italians call themselves Italian. I hate going to the St Patty's parade and seeing all the shirts that say Kiss me I'm Irish American! I also hate going down to Little America Italy in the Bronx for great Italian food.
-
We're Americans. Doesn't matter your race, creed or denomination. If you're born here I consider you American and that's it.
-
White people don't know where they are from. Also black people didn't coin the term African American.

Edited by AllOutWar76: 2/27/2015 3:02:11 PMWhat a dumb statement. We know where we came from, everyone came from the same line regardless of whether you believe in evolution or creation. http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/evolution/female-ancestor.htm *Edit* as for your other point, they didn't coin the "N" word either and call themselves that.
-
Careful little white flight bigot, your hood is showing.
-
LOL funny. I was born and raised in the Bronx NY, have Native American blood (Blackfoot tribe), have Cuban blood relatives, have a hispanic sister in law, indian cousin in law, dated hispanic women almost exclusively, and I am married to a Jewish woman. You just happen to be another ignorant minority that thinks all white people hate non whites. Way to keep that stereotype going.
-
Wow I'm glad I'm not so insecure that I have to post my ethnic origins and the ethnicity of people I -blam!-.
-
Well you called me a biggot. If I said no I'm not you would have just replied that I am. And what is it that I said that makes me a biggot? Did I ask him what's so great about grape soda, or something stupid like that?
-
Cmon, It's a forum. You met a troll :-D
-
Always wonder that.. I mean -blam!- we all American if you were born in U.S. or from U.S. citizen parents. I mean unless your parents are from Africa then shit ok I get you naming yourself African American.
-
Because white Americans want to pretend they are ingenious people and discovered America. When in fact Christopher Columbus when there and killed the native Americans. They don't know where they are from originally
-
Colombus landed in the Caribbean not the US...
-
Sorry to burst your bubble but we all originate from Africa/middle east regardless of ethnicity. My great grandmother was born in Ireland but my grandparents and parents were born here and I do not call my self Irish American. Regardless of what was done to Native Americans or how this country was discovered the fact remains if you are born in a country, that is what you are.
-
Sorry to burst your bubble. But I know for a fact the majority of Americans think like this. They also think their terrorist army is heroes while they are out helping their government take over countries and murder children using drones (cowards weapon)
-
You must be an Allah lover.
-
Drones are a legitimate weapon. What's the difference if a MAV or a UAV?
-
American media does not speak for Americans. People outside of America read the news and think that's what we all think. Very wrong. Obama approval rating is about 50%. That means half of America doesn't agree with what's happening in this country.
-
Could be true. I am American and don't agree with most of what my government does. I also don't believe that any wars we were in were justified since WWII. Either way this is way off the topic on why blacks born in America refer to themselves as African American. That brings up another question, do black people in Australia call themselves African Austrailains? lol
-
I don't know. But I do know blacks in the uk don't call themself African British. Must be an American thing with all the racism and slavery in the past. They don't want to be a part of the whites
-
Edited by FL NIGHTMARE: 2/27/2015 3:08:43 PMThis is dumb we dont think that but understand that since slavery happened unlike white ppl ( who can general trace they roots to a specific country or country's) it can be very hard to nail down where you are from which is why identifying as an African-American became a thing in reality Africa is a very diverse place with no one cultural identity
-
Hey man, that's actually a pretty solid answer. Nice job!
-
Thank you sir a smart man then I explained it to me that way
