Especially Auto Rifle users.
The reasons for the weapon fix are explained in, funnily enough, the Weapon Fix Update. It's really not that hard to find.
But if you are that lazy:
To date, Auto Rifles and Hand Cannons are being used outside of their intended range. They are ideal at close to medium range, and currently they are outperforming Scout and Pulse Rifles at distance.
Auto Rifles damage fall-off will happen sooner, and range is decreased.
The 2% drop in damage for Auto Rifles is to bring the TTK in time with other primaries. It doesn't seem like that much, and at close range you won't even notice it. But at further range, the damage reduction will work with the damage fall-off to give the opposing player time to counter, especially if they have a ranged weapon.
TLDR?
You'll have to be close to medium range to efficiently use your close to medium range weapons.
I switch between all weapons, and I used Pulse Rifles a lot since launch. I think the Fix is justified.

People cry about everything. You're crying about people crying. I'm crying about you crying about people crying, and someone will probably cry about me crying about you crying about people crying.
-
How about we don't care to have Destiny's auto rifles become Halo's pea shooting assault rifle. (You remember that one gun you dropped the first chance you got because it was probably the primary reason the UNSC was losing because it sucked that much.) And unless we tell them that in a polite and considerate manner on the forums for their game they will not know of our discontent with their planned pea shooting vision for auto rifles.
-
Actually the 2% bullshit, is just that, bullshit. Suros got more of a 12% r@peage, autos are complete garbage now, bungie got what they want, no one except scrub nubs will use em
-
Adapt or die.
-
I don't think the fix is justified. I think the Auto rifle range was adequate, and the maps are small. Pulse rifles impact increase is justified. Shotgun 100% Pve is justified, they are now usable in pve. Only thing that in my opinion needs to be nerfed, and it wasn't is the range of Fusion rifles in PVP. I don't think that fusion rifle should be able to instant kill you from medium range (Murmur, Pocket infinity, Plan C, Butt plug one etc.).
-
Why can't I full auto my ar at scout rifle distance and have perfect accuracy with no range drop off anymore bungie? You mean easy mode button actually ruins the game? -blam!- off
-
Crying is the only constant here my friend.
-
Is your finding base from a PVP point of view or from PVE? I cant comment abt PVP but as for PVE the AR is bad. When they balance the weapons, they should have balance the enemies in PVE too.
-
I don't like that PVP dictates PVE. Make the stats changed upon entry of crucible and the problem is resolved. This whole nerf thing is ridiculous to people who kill AI beings. This has been a terrible first impression of the 10 years of Destiny. This kind of stuff destroys MMO's because they only focus on PVP.. Had hopes Bungie would get it right but they obviously are way off the mark. Only another MMO player will understand this unfortunately.

I think the updates awesome Words cannot describe how much better it is to not have a rocket up your arse constantly
-
nd at close range you won't even notice it.
Yeah I noticed my drop in damage from suros from 471 damage HS to 408, kinda hard to miss (and this was up close)
-
Bullshit, what they say and what we got aren't quite lining up. High impact ARs are trash now at any range. Thorn is practically uneffected. And the fourth horseman is now a pretty looming shard.
-
It's pretty funny when people use real life weapons as an argument for how weapons should perform in videogames.
-
Now for them to attack Thorn so people can use a different weapon lol
-
Funny thing is that my vanquisher still kicks ass, Hand cannons still wreck and fusion rifles still 1 shot kill. Only thing new is that pulse rifles are relevant now and shotguns don't suck in pve... I really don't see much of a change.. I do like that I can steal the enimies heavy and dance knowing they won't get any... lol..
-
I'm an auto user and I can't even notice the difference as I use like you state close to medium. Just so many no skill just crying about there op stuff getting nerf now they need skill lol.
-
People people people....the 2% that they told you the nerf was a friggin lie. Suros went from 36-31. It doesn't take a Calculus Honors student (which I am) to figure out that's more that two percent. So I'm angry because your forcing me to play with a certain weapon type and succeeded because my auto rifles aren't useless but it's just better to use a pulse rifle or hand cannon.
Did you know him? Not really I just met him, I heard he was a good person...everyone liked him. And when I finally did meet him, he was already fading. I see, I'm sorry you didn't get to really know him Its okay, I heard he went peacefully Yea, the nerf usually takes time to kill them Well he wasn't doing to well since he got stage one a couple months ago Thank you for comforting me Read Death No problem RIP, Suros...
-
Im a scout rifle person...and I'm just sitting back watching the fight
-
If you see an increase in snipers like myself remember, it's your fault.
-
Pulse rifles suck. Buff that shit all ya want. It's still a crappy weapon w/ no impact.
-
It's not just what they said it would be its actually more and it's noticeable up close and the funny thing is pulse rifles are now stronger than ars.
-
Edited by TempusSpiritus: 2/25/2015 8:57:57 PMAs you stated it doesn't bother you because you use pulse rifles which had their stats improved if I read the update info correctly. Considering the scope upgrades the auto rifles can receive I think it's fair to have the guns work beyond the medium range. I'm amazingly skilled at close combat and put a lot of time into upgrading my auto rifle, so I feel justified in being unhappy almost all weapons had their stats lowered. If the guns were meant to work the way they did...why release them that way? It's a video game which is programmed to work in specific ways so they could have easily worked on this before we got used to our weapons being...good/useful. I don't feel I'm whining I just don't feel like they have a good enough reason to do this but considering it's their game we don't exactly have a choice plus I can't complain too much as I love Destiny overall.
-
I like it weapons are situational I have a weapon of each category except shotgun atm I switch back and forth especially abyss defiant just use for disorienting wizards
-
Just because we don't agree with or like the reasoning doesn't mean we don't know what it is. I don't care how you play, as long it doesn't change the way I do. Think it over, unless you're too lazy.
-
F pvp.. That's what it was done for.. Especially the first shot of a hand cannon.. It's bs.. Change it for pvp only!!!
-
I saw no difference in my invective but my auto rifle is completely different. I'm outgunning a suros with a pulse rifle. Makes no sense. The actual gameplay and what the patch notes say don't seem to add up
