I just thought to myself:
"Self, why do you stick your head in those console war threads? You know the terribleness you're going to see."
After coming out of the most recent "better exclusives" thread I realized why. I don't follow gaming news much and I'm looking to see what I may have missed. For example, I highly enjoyed Dark Souls and discovered Bloodbourne in a thread similar to that one.
So, instead of a "which console is better" thread, how about a "why the console you chose was better for you" thread.
The only reason I bought a PS4 was my Xbox 360 was on loan (haven't gotten it back yet :( ) when Destiny came out so I got it for the PS3 instead. I wanted to upgrade to one of the newer systems during Black Friday and went with the PS4 since I'd get Destiny for free and be able to keep my progress (it's all I was playing at the time).
I'm not saying I made the wrong decision but it was the wrong reason. Until recently the PS4 mostly collected dust because my friends list with full of people on the PS3 and... you need "friends" to enjoy Destiny.
I'm playing the PS4 more now mostly because my brother got one, but he would have gotten and Xbone if I had one.
For those of you who had a better reason than "Destiny bro" what game(s)/feature(s) made you choose one over the other?
Was it something along the lines of "my bro(s) bro"?
PC gamers, feel free to chime in as well! Let us console fanboys know how inferior our decision to play this generation's equivalent to "kick the can" is. ;) The list of PC games is daunting, but I wouldn't mind hearing about some "must plays" that I missed out on in my 10 year PC gaming hiatus.
After rereading this a couple times I'm realizing there are probably a ton of games for the Wii U I'd like to play, I just don't know what they are. Any Wii Users out there have a list of "must plays"? Bayonetta 2 comes to mind (along with the Nintedo staples like "Smash Bros bro").
Edit: Thanks for the replies! Found some new games to look forward to and learned a pretty major technical difference between the Xbone and 4 (Xbone's external HD vs 4's upgradeable internal).
Here are the games mentioned:

I bought my PS4 for Destiny. Dragon Age was great and I'm looking forward to FFXV and Uncharted 4. We can slide back for shiz and giggles too... I bought my PS3 when Uncharted 2 and MGS4 were out. I bought my PS2 for Soul Reaver 2, among other things that I can't remember anymore. I held out a long time with my SNES until the PS1 was out. MGS and FFVII were the incentives. I got a SNES because it looked freakin' awesome in the Nintendo Power magazine. It turned out to be my favorite console ever. I don't remember why I got a Genesis, but Mutant League Football and Starflight were almost always inserted. I got a Turbo Graphix 16 because it was awesome. It had a lot of very strange games, but it had some of the best action games, JRPGs and shooters I'd ever played at that point. My grandma bought me a NES that came with Duck Hunt and SMB. I also had NES Golf, which I was terrible at. My first console was a Sega Master System. We had an Atari 2600, but I was never all that interested in it (except Human Cannonball). I had a handful of SMS games, most of which seemed cool, but ultimately disappointed me. Before that, I used to play with physical toys... And dirt, dirt was awesome. There is a lot of dirt in Arizona.

Edited by Authentic Verse: 2/25/2015 4:35:20 PMI loved Halo 2 on the original xbox. Got a ps3 yellow light, got another, yellow light, cousin gave me his, yellow light. After going through 3 ps3's got a 360 with gears 2 and halo 3 and never looked back. But, i still loved the ps2 it's just the ps3 was shit.

Xbox One. Microsoft owns the brand and it's American made not Japanese. Has Halo. Born into playing Xbox. Played Playstation and didn't like it.
-
My reosans: 1.)I'm a fanboy( not the bad one, when I hate on PS4 people) 2.) I love the exclusives, even if some of them aren't the best.( also early access DLC and games and that type of stuff) 3.) my two brothers have it and my friends on 360, we're getting the one. 4.) best reason is I love to play video games and the xboxone was my choice, I have nothing against the Ps4, I'm not saying the One is better either. It's just my opinion.
-
Got an Xbox One just so I'd be able to play the new Phantom Dust; honestly I wasn't planning on upgrading but once that game was announced, it sealed the deal.
-
Because I'm an Xbox fanboy
-
Ps4 doesn't support external hdd.... so I got xbox
-
Wanted an Xbone for Halo 5 and Sunset Overdrive came out of left field and sold me. I might consider getting a PS4 in the future. I NEED to get a Wiiu in order to play Xenoblade Chronicles X. I used to use Steam every once in a while...but then my computer sputtered and died.

2 words, HALO 5! (Nuf said)

Edited by Capt Explodabob: 2/26/2015 7:26:16 AMI switched from Playstation to Xbox back in 2008 because -- in my opinion -- there is an obvious decline from PS1 and PS2 to PS3 and PS4 as far as Sony goes. Exclusives also play a massive part in my preference of Xbox. Truth be told, I always wanted an Xbox instead of a PS2 as a kid. But let's be honest -- Halo. I could have just stopped there. The BETA was the best.
-
Already had a ps3, so I just stuck with it and got a ps4 Also have wii and wii u. Both great systems.
-
Bloodborne. That was a huge determining factor.
-
I bought a Wii U because there weren't any PS4's because I thought I could get one a little after launch and was wrong and picked up a Wii U and can't say I'm disappointed in it. I got a PS4 shortly after and a Vita around last December.
-
I did it because of hype. I bought PS4. I am very happy with it. My bro-inlaw has a Xbox One. It is great how it interfaces with everything...but I wouldn't use it. So my PS4...I love it

Edited by N3gativeCr33p: 2/25/2015 5:45:24 PMReason why I bought a PS4? - A year ago, I had nothing better to spend $400 of the free money that I had, thanks to winning the 2013 Fantasy Football championship. They were still tough to find on store shelves back then, but I was in southern Missouri, and some random small town Walmart actually had them in stock.

Edited by Lolipops: 2/25/2015 5:04:13 PMI haven't bought any of the newer consoles yet, but do have access to them. I'll probably wait a year or so before purchasing one. As an RPG fan, especially JRPGs, there isn't much for me to play on them. My PS3 is never off however, and I use my 360 from time to time. I also use PS Vita and 3DS a fair amount too. I buy consoles depending upon their currently available software/games. As for Wii U, I can only currently recommend Bayonetta 2, as you've mentioned. I personally am tired of 'Nintendo staples' and I never did like the Smash series.
-
But I haven't bought any of them.
-
I bought my PS4 for Star Wars: Battlefront DICE. I could have bought an XBox one, but I've used Playstation all my life so why break that streak now?
-
Well I have all of them so yeah.
-
I got a ps 2 it was shit so I got an Xbox never looked back
