Yay, designated tag to drop site feedback. Just some oldies but goodies.
TITLES PL0X
Oh and stickies
Annnnddd more group features (the return of old ones like custom group titles)
And the cherry on top, dark theme so I don't have to wear sunglasses.
I'm assuming everything above is well known to be desired but it doesn't hurt to repeat.
I'd like for a more forum-y feel to return. The tag system is great for organizing but it's more of an information dump than a forum. I feel like this issue would be resolved if there were title bars and thicker borders separating comments. I used to enjoy scrolling through threads on b.old, reading all the comments. Now I kinda just enter the thread, read the OP, post a simple comment and leave. There isn't much engagement because the atmosphere doesn't really encourage it. However I must admit this has slowley but surely been improved since the new site launched. It just hasn't gotten there yet. Say what you will about the old site I felt like it was Bungies home...b.next is more like destinyLFGandNEWS.net. Which is great for destiny, but not great for developing loyal fans. The reddit is a better forum than Bungie's own official site (sorry, the atmosphere is just a lot more friendly and inviting). To clarify, the new Destiny fans aren't really being converted into Bungie forum regulars...just destiny players. Which is why fun community events are spammed with complaints and..well...junk. People just see this site as a place to dump hate and complaints, not a home that some of us have spent years enjoying.
Moderation is getting there but still lacks. The rules have to be in your face. Publicly displayed and enforced (locked threads for example). All the moderation is behind the scenes. Locked threads gave good examples of what not to post and created good signals. I feel LFG spam that basically destroyed a large portion of this site for months could have been avoided with swifter, louder, moderation. Comparing reach newbies to destiny newbies, b.old had stickied rules and locked topics that kept much of the spam at bay. Of course LFG is a beast of its own but it can be tamed, which recent movements to control it have proven (like gaming being a useable tag again).
That's all for now

Thanks. Good thoughts here. I think all of your ideas are good, and I'd like to explore them with the team. They have their own ideas, of course, so I'll make promises about site updates later. I'm not sure I agree with your whole moderation philosophy. I would like to see more public evidence of moderation, but public executions and locked threads become trophies to trolls. A red badge of mayhem. I'll think on all this, though. I'm thinking about it a lot lately. I sincerely appreciate the work you put into this analysis. Parting thought about the days of old... This community is sending very different traffic to Bungie.net. The Destiny community is a very different animals, and the new tools are serving us very well.

I agree with most, but I want to address your point about Destiny players not becoming members of the community. First, I feel it's mostly incorrect. I'm personally seeing lots of newbies trying to make a place for themselves here. In fact, while a lot of us grizzled old farts are sitting around bitching about the good old days (myself included), it seems to be the new guys and gals who are showing the most energy and excitement for being here. Unfortunately.. many of these guys are finding their excitement being met with "shut up, desticle" or some other form of aggression. And the thing is.. it's some of these newbies that are quickly growing into some of my favorite people around here. The rest of us are acting a bit too bitter over everything that's happened around here the last couple years (perhaps rightfully so, perhaps not). And I feel we, if anything, are the ones making it more difficult for these peeps to acclimate. I understand that having a ton of people posting in the wrong forums is tiring. And it gets aggravating to have to tell a dozen people each day "this belongs in..". But the aggression I've seen from our more "established" members over the last year has been down right embarrassing. I do feel we went from one extreme with the code of conduct to another. And I do agree that we need to find more of a middle ground than we currently have. But I also feel that new people tend to follow the examples of those who were there before them. And if we act like a bunch of jackasses to people trying to join us.. it won't be long before there's nothing but jackasses.

Good thread. Like DeeJ said, I don't completely agree with your moderation idea. I comment more under DeeJ's reply on the subject. I envision something of a semi-old/new approach.

Honestly I miss the old Bungie.net, you hit the nail on the head

Kittens for extra motivation, oh great wise webteam. I understand you are awe-inspiring, but please look at this thread and hopefully give us titles and what not (Sapid missed archiving threads. Shouldn't be in private group threads, but it should definitely be present in the mains). Webteam, when you think of what to do, think about kittens.
