On the forums there is a debate. One between a kid and a frog (kermit). After reading the posts I had to clarify some things. I'll list the good first so the butthurt people don't jump to the comments. I want people to read.
1. Kermit is a real jerk. He deleted the kids stuff for his enjoyment and lied to him. What Kermit did was not right.
2. The fault in this event is within the kid. Why? Because a choice is what determines a fate. He was not forced in anyway to give his info but chose to trust him.
3. Is the kid stupid? No. Kids make mistakes. That is what being a child is all about, we grow and learn. Yes, the kid learned a lesson.
4. The kid made a mistake. An 11 year old boy who plays games should know to never allow someone you don't know have your info. These warnings are posted everywhere on the internet and all over some games.
5. The kid attempted to cheat. Hearing a rumor of said cheat, he tried it. In real life an attempted murder is still illegal.
This community is blinded by age, I say this because if the same thing happened to an adult, not much would be done. Just a simple "Deal with it."
Who's fault?: The Kid
Why?: Because a choice is a choice. He chose to trust him and was not forced to release any information. His freewill is what made him do it.
Who was wrong?: Kermit and The Kid
Why?: Kermit was a jerk for deleting his characters. I know what it feels like to lose something valuable to me, it hurts and I don't like it ehen it happens. However, the kid was wrong for giving info and attempting to cheat the game.
The kid is at fault but the frog did something that shouldn't have been done.
Should this kid be rewarded? No. He should not be rewarded for a mistake. Rewarding someone when wrong will only promote more bad.
I propose something other than a reward. A profile restoration.

He deserved it!

STFU WITH THIS OLD ASS BULLSHIT
-
It's his parents fault because they let him play a game that rated T for teen and he is only 11. Bad parenting caused this mess!
-
You contradicted yourself. Said kid doesnt deserve a reward, but say he should get profile restored, which is a reward. The kid should have to deal with the decision he made. He is learning a valuable life lesson that you have to deal with the consequences of your actions better he learn that now than when he get older and money is involved
-
So you're blaming the victim of the crime instead of the criminal. That's like saying by going to a party and behaving a certain way you ask for bad things to happen to you. Blame the real person at fault here, not the kid.

Both should have nothing happen.

I stopped reading at "attempted murder." that's got to be the worst analogy in the history of these forums. the kid was talked into Jaywalking. he was gonna take a shortcut. if he did glitch to level 20, it would have no effect on the rest of game & it's players. there's an awful lot of players on this forum that forget what it's like to be a kid. I'm 1988 there was no Internet, yet every kid that had the NES knew how to Turtle Tip. I knew the Konami code before I knew my SS number. Game Genies & Game Sharks gave us ways to cheat. it's part gaming culture. I for one don't care that kid agreed to a glitch that didn't exist. that's not the point. an adult tricked a child with malicious intentions. that is not acceptable behavior.

Good points man but instead of murder you should have used the example of stealing something because that is essentially what the kid was trying to do. Ex: Kid said he was going to cheat on stream and get all 32's and all exotics when he clearly didn't deserve them if he wasn't willing to actually do the work for them. Irl ex: Kirmit promises kid he will get a free DS and a couple of games all he has to do is go into the store and put them in his bag and walkout. He gets caught by Security and says that he shouldn't be punished since he didn't get away with stealing the goods that Kirmit said he would get for free and instead should be given more stuff than he was going to steal.

Sounds like the title of a children's book. Would make a good story too.

Bungie put up warnings in halo loading screens for years to never give someone you're bungie.net info

Yeah he was just a kid, but he's not intellectually disabled. An 11 year old should know what the hell he is doing, and he should know not to give away personal info and to not cheat. Some f*cker tried to get me to tell him my account info when I was 12. I responded with go-blam!-yourself@gmail.com password : getalifeloser
-
If some kid asked me to hack his account and gave me his info, I'd delete his shit too. He'll never try to cheat again, guaranteed.
-
If he was over 17 I bet nobody would care

So you basically condone kids cheating then... Oh and lying.... You sticking up for him makes it worse buddy, how many people cheese the bridge part in Crota raid. How many POEPLE cheese as much of life as they can. 1.) The kid made a mistake by trusting someone who said they were going to help them cheat. A total random, not a friend who had been on there for a few days it's bull crap, chinese whispers... 2.) the kid walked away from his ps4 allowing the kermit guy enough time to delete 2 characters and the 1 exotic on his third. First of all he was skeptical then bam fully trusting, yeah carry on play on my account. 3.) yes it's sad that he has this happen, but by no means should he be rewarded for it. He should be punished as well... 4.) Google search - glitch past base level 20... Do I need say more. Putting this kid on a pedestal like he's a FRICKING African orphan that survived a fight with a 1 ton lion at the age of 10 get a grip on life.

I don't know why you and everyone else is saying this 11yr old kid cheated, or attempted? There was never any cheating what's so ever.

sometimes you gotta learn the hard way i guess

Edited by OGMoonWizard: 2/23/2015 5:00:33 PMI think you are sort of getting. However you're missing that children inherently trust people, especially adults. They trust adults because from a young age they have to for survival and there is no reason to not trust them. As an adult, breaking this trust is despicable. People are saying cheat. However - Daily game culture is filled with posts, web sites, streams and YouTube videos of game exploits and cheeses. IGN and Kotaku and major news outlets regularly report of such things. Many, many streamers make a living broadcasting such aspects of games. The kid was doing the same. He was not in a malicious way trying to "cheat" anyone other than the mechanics of the game. He did not give out personal info. He trusted Kirmit with share play. I recall a situation from my youth. Friends and I were at a local skate board competition. At the end. One of the older teens/ 20 year old came up to us. He ask my friend about the new skate board he was holding. My friend had just got it last week for his birthday. The older boy said the board looked really nice, could he try it? My friend handed it over. The older boy skate away with the board as the 4 of us (11 years old) watched in shock. At that point in time we were still trusting to have never imagined that someone would steal a kids skateboard. Why? Because theft is wrong and against the law. What the kid did was trust an adult. What Kirmit did was wrong on many levels. That's really it.

Why should he get rewarded for my hard work?
-
The kid made a kid decision. There's a reason kids can't sign contracts, join the military, marry, etc... We've scientifically determined that their brains aren't developmentally prepared to make such decisions. It's also fairly well known that it is easier to create a sense of urgency when dealing with a child and that they're far more susceptible to the old bait and switch scenarios. We don't know what kind of sales pitch was tossed at the kid. We don't know how much Kermit pushed the idea of game-share. What we do know is that the kid was 11 and, as such, probably doesn't make the most rational decisions. Blaming the 11 year old for the Kermit situation is akin to blaming an abducted child for falling for the old "do you want some candy" line.
