Yes, yes. I'm sure you are all tired about seeing threads about kirmit McDickface and the kid who lost his gear and characters through playshare. I'm here to provide a different opinion than the white knights running rampant on the forums.
He should not be given his items back for free
Think about it. Here's a young kid who naively believed that a stranger with access to his account would not do something to mess with him. He did so with the intention of cheating/glitching, looking for an easy way out. He lost his items and characters.
No, I'm not trying to bash the kid and I'm not defending kirmit. He was a jerk, and its clear to me now he violated Sony policy either through "harassment" or scamming. And I willfully admit that I have "cheesed" the game before. Many of us here are guilty of that. It's human nature to look for the easy way out.
My point is this:
The kid made a dumb mistake of allowing someone access to his private account to play on. NEVER NEVER NEVER do that with anyone. He learned a valuable lesson about not trusting strangers without facing any real world, tangible consequences. Its not like he handed a stranger his parents credit card info.
I did the same thing on Runescape back in the day, and I'm glad it happened. I never made that mistake again.
If he is simply given his items back for nothing, he won't learn a damn thing.
The compassionate thing to do would be to offer your assistance by playing with him. Help him earn his gear back, and show him that not all strangers are jerks. In the process he'll appreciate a valuable lesson and maybe even make a few friends along the way.

I'm still laughing about it, I can hear his tears without listening to the video. He tried to play it cool, possibly sniffling while loading up destiny, thinking about his dismantled plan c. Then as he sees his 31 warlock and 26 titan have entered the void, and he starts to bawl, it brings a smile to my face.

You don't run a kid over just to teach him how dangerous it is crossing the road! If he had held down the delete button while the kid watched in horror then let the button go just before it was deleted that would have been teaching him a lesson! The Kirmit ahole is just a bully looking to get a hard on from messing with people! Bungie should delete all his characters and Sony should ban any consoles associated with his PSN account! When my Nephew was young this type of shit happened all the time on Habbo Hotel, kids are trusting and naive it's called the innocence of youth. Some of the responses on this incident are incredible, wait until you are responsible for a youngster. I can just see some of the members of this forum as parents, slapping their two year old across the face screaming at them to "shut up Meg, "git gud scrub" and "tears collected".
-
I agree he shouldn't get his stuff back. There's been a million posts about accidental deletions of items and they never get it back. The kid made a big mistake and there's repercussions for it. What I would like to see is that Kermit Ahole to get banned.

Edited by Semperfi1999: 2/20/2015 9:18:35 PMi actually think its pretty humorous that apparently many people think....."fool me once shame on me fool me twice shame on me" Apparently the perpetrator is never to be held liable for what they do. Victims are always responsible for what happens to them. Fortunately the consquences of this is in truth relatively minor. But proper recourse should be for kermits PS4 to be completely banned from PSN due to violating the TOS. However I dont expect bungie to go out of their way to try to get everything back for his character. Bungie has already stated if you delete a char is gone forever. It sounds like Bungie already went above and beyond for this gamer though.

Would love to see your reaction if the same happened to you.
-
Can I just say here, that we shouldn't be disrespecting Valus ( Mr. RocketsMcDickface himself) by labeling this Kermit douche bag with the same label. Valus deserves better.
-
Kid: at fault Kermit: an asshole, but shouldn't be banned as all he did was teach him a lesson
-
I agree. Enabling him will not help him learn not to do it again. It will teach him that someone will bail him out every time he makes a mistake.
-
Your story about the pregnant girl was cool. Now you're stupid. Wow.
-
the kid was doing what kids do like be a kid, the adult manipulated the lad into doing something he wasnt sure of, as the video shows the young lad was unsure of what was asked at first, the thing is its not the end of the world to have virtual stuff ruined ( i would hate all my progress gone ) but the fact is that why is a grown man on a kids friend list in first place, and why does this man want to be so sadistic to a child this should be the question asked!
-
One thing you do not understand, he didn't share any account info at all. This was all done through share play on the PlayStation 4. Share play gives remote access to your console and allows the person you say is ok to control what happens on the screen. Yes he was totally wrong for what he thought was going to happen, but what everyone is "White knighting" is the fact that a malicious action was commited against a minor, it is no different then cyber bullying, and for all we know Kirmit convinced him that was he was doing wa legit. Everyone at 11 years old has used cheat cods on video games, shoot they even used to print cheat code books for the old video games.
-
The tool that deleted that kids stuff has a YouTube account: MegaFlyingFrog you can watch his videos and see the PSN ID kirmitThefrog.
-
The real story here is how does a game in 2015 not have an item/account restoration function. Blizzard has had that shit for a decade.

Honestly I feel that he should get his things back. I say that because I know that if i lost my stuff as well I would really really want Bungie to give it back to me. I'm sure 99% of u feel the same way as me but u won't admit it. Also he did this out of kindness. True he made a mistake but he was trying to help someone out and that person took advantage of the situation and messed him up. If we just keep saying "oh he shouldn't get his things back it will teach him a lesson and help him in the long run" , then the only lesson we are teaching him is to never help and trust any stranger. It's like the incident that happen a while back in china a men saved a womens life by pushing her out of the way of a car then she pressed charges against him for molestation. Couple of months later a baby was on the street and was repeatedly hit and missed by on coming traffic. The china citizens saw what was happening but none went to help because they knew that if they did help then something bad might happen to them. I know this situation isn't as serious as the china one but I wanted to make a reference to a past event. This is my opinion and IM NOT SAYING IM CORRECT. I just wanted to let some of u think about this situation is a different light. U may change ur mind u may not either way every individual is entitled to their own opinion.

I agree. Actions need to have consequences. How will he learn if they just give his stuff back after he cried.. And yes if people want to help him out. then HELP him, don't just give his stuff back.
-
Is kirmit mcdickface related to rockets mcdickface?
-
Kids make dumb mistakes. They are kids.
-
Ah shit. That was hands down the most hilarious video I have ever seen in my life. The fact that he was going to show how glitch past level 20....not even a raid cheese or a weapon drop tutorial, on top of the fact that all of his characters were past 20, showed that he should have seen it coming. Also, no one should ever trust their precious online gaming accounts, or any personal info for that matter, into the hands of strangers, no matter the reason. My friend got -blam!-ed over in Habbo Hotel back in the day, and I was stupid enough to do it in Gunbound back in the day. So when shit like this happens, the only thing anyone can do is laugh at them.
-
Then after you build his trust, you get on his account and -blam!- him again!
-
Edited by LightningJax: 2/20/2015 8:17:56 PMI feel for the kid. I really do. But I must agree. If Bungie opens this door, how many more exceptions will they have to make?
-
Lmao he's a 12 year playing a video game, I think we can cut him some slack there tough guy
-
I'm glad someone voiced this perspective. He shouldn't be giving his account to people he doesn't know. Hell, he should be thinking twice about giving his account to people he DOES know. Also I can't help but make this joke about it.
GIVE THAT BOY THE FATE OF ALL FOOLS! HE'S EARNED IT!
-
He isn't getting his stuff back because if bungie gifted everything he lost. They'd have to do the same with everyone else.
-
Kid cheated not cheesed. Cheesing requires actually playing the game. The kid didn't play he cheated. Learn the difference. I'm with you though that the kid deserved what he got so no one should help him. Let's be honest he's 11 he has all the free time in the world to get everything back in a week and Lvl the characters back up in 2 days
-
I agree 100%. He was trying to level up by cheating. Now he has to go to the back of the line and start over. Great life lesson. "Its just a video game" and he will get over it. He probably has free time being 11 anyway. He'll make way more friends now that this happened and be able to find a raid team in seconds. I laughed a little when he was crying at the end. I felt bad for him, but it was still funny.
-
In my opinion, I don't believe the kid should get his stuff back. I feel bad for him and I think that's a crappy thing to do to anyone, especially a naive kid, but he made a mistake and he needs to be accountable. I'd like to see the kid get help from the community in leveling up his characters again and getting some positive reinforcement. I don't think it will take him too long to get back to that point since kids have a lot of time to invest in playing Destiny (Summer break, holidays etc..). I would also like to see the community rally against Kermit by boycotting playing with him. Any time you are matched with him, simply leave the fire team and go to orbit. Destiny will become an extremely boring and lonely game for him after a while. That will force him to start a new gamer tag and from the beginning just like this kid also has to do. I'm sure this will all blow over after a week or so but it is a good lesson to keep in mind for the future. I have friends that I wouldn't even trust with my account let alone a total stranger.
