Most of us are blinded by the holiness of RNGsus. But I'm a sceptic and a non-believer, so I have a theory of why YOU wont get a certain weapon, but others will.
Now, we all think that it's all based on RNG, but I don't really think so. I do understand the concept of randomness, but I don't believe that's a fact in this concern.
I am gonna use two examples:
Player 1:
- has Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
- want Ice Breaker and SUROS
Player 2:
- has SUROS and Ice Breaker
- want Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
Player 1 and 2 keeps on grinding for their wanted weapons, but usually get random crap drops. And to top that, they get multiple drops of the exotics they already have. (like me, i've gotten 3 No Land Beyond from Crota)
And this is where my theory comes in...
Bungie has a system (fixed RNG), that basicly makes it (nearly) impossible for you to get the weapons you are missing. It's like your profile is assigned to certain weapons. Me, I get SUROS all the time.
So a simple example for this system would be:
"Drops assigned to Player 1: Thunderlord, Gjallarhorn etc" (these are the drops always handed out)
"Drops avoided for Player 1: Ice Breaker, SUROS, etc" ( these are the drops that might never happen)
(same with Player 2,3,4,5,6,7, infinity)
I know there are many RNGsus followers out there, and by all means, praise him! But me, I'm not fooled by this non-sense anymore. Just like anything else, Bungie likes to control the community, so they control RNG as well.
Yeah, I know, Bungie started selling Ice Breaker, which was hard to get for many of us. But that was also their decision. Why do you think it became available shortly after CE? To soothe the masses to keep them playing.
Conclusion: Players will always get the same drops, and will most likely never get that one thing they are missing (in my case Gjallarhorn).
Hope i made sense. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never been able to put a word to it. Maybe i wasn't able now either... I might be wrong, but I'm sure my points makes it clear enough.
*edit 1*
I see many say they have all Exotics, and asks me to explain that. Well, that's cause Bungie decided that your profile, amongst others, could. That's why.
*edit 2*
*sigh* This wasn't actually meant to be a post about weapons never dropping, cause they can. It's just that it is controlled by Bungie. Sure, some of you have played for 500 hours and finally gotten a certain weapon. But because the community is continously growing, Bungie decides to hand out X amount of, ie, GHs a day, but still manage to control the weapon flow.
*edit 3*
People seem to be believe I'm saying stuff never drops. If it says that somewhere in my post (I've tried to reword myself), that's not what I'm saying. Please, read my post over again, especially "edit 2".
*edit 4*
Well, I expected a lot of flaming since my so called theory is far fatched, flawed and simply crappy :P
I've tried my best to answer most posts I've seen fit. Thankfully most have been serious posts. Some not.
I am now going to get a beer and my whisky bottle, sit down, and play some Strikes. Will check in later to see if this is still alive.
Hopefully I will prove myself wrong and get GH tonight... hrhrhhr

Every exotic but Pocket Infinity and Super Good Advice.

Watch out for the grey helicopters dude/ette.

I am also a loot atheist. A loothiest. I strongly agree with your beliefs but have some minor differences in mine.

Tops full retard

I've had no duplicate exotics (excluding that I chose to buy 3 Icebreakers), I've had 9 different exotics Nightfall Reward - 4th Horseman Purple Engram - Suros VOG Chest - Universal Remote, Truth Exotic Bounty - Super Good Advice, Pocket Infinity (because I won't do crucible won't get others from bounties) Xur - Icebreaker, Plan C, Dragons Breath If Xur sells something I don't have I buy it just to have it even if I don't plan to use it, with the exception of No Land Beyond because I just started playing when he sold it and didn't want to waste coins at that time on a primary sniper rifle.

I got a thunderlord last week. Had about 900 hours in at that time. The only exotic I'm missing is red death. Your logic would make me seem very holy ? Or does rng simply mean random
-
Those 4 exotics you mention were probably the first 4 i got. In this exact order, Gjallarhorn (1st week of destiny), Suros Regime ( 2nd week), Ice Breaker (3rd week) , thunderlord (3rd week).

Edited by SOOMPLE POMPLER: 2/19/2015 4:36:52 PMThe problem I have with anecdotal examples like these isn't that the OP and others alike jump to these theories. Please understand that your sample size is very limited. I wish I had the numbers but you would Prolly see platform - wide the drop rates for guns are fairly even.
-
as a side note this might also explain why i have gotten the same set of 3 exotic bounties 5 times in a row.
-
Thunderlord was the only one I was missing and I just got it from the nightfall.
-
and some of us are assigned to the FU group and never get exotics
-
73 hrs of playtime and I have all 4?
-
I have noticed of late that I get drops based on what weapon I am using, for example I use heavy ammo glitch on Crota and low and behold I get No Land Beyond. I tend to be a pistol wielder and received all exotic hand cannons fairly fast. The weapons I am missing are red death (never use pulse rifles,) Midas multi tool (usually save my scouts for PvP) and ghorn (never used rockets before CE.) this is probably not the same for every one but that is how it works for me, I finally received suros and after playing with it for a while I received two more, same happened with the vex, hard-light and Monte Carlo. My new superstition is that if I use a legendary in the class of the weapon I want to drop I will have higher chances.
-
Rng... It's possible someone's rng tables don't drop any exotics until they get toward the end of them. It's mathematically possible. Go wrap your head around that.

So, what you're saying is that SmoggyPluto has confirmed Half Life 3? #illuminati

Aliens built the pyramids, too.

With the exception of the Thunderlord and the Crux of Crota, I've been rewarded at least 3 of each exotic weapon (only 2 Dragons Breath.) I have not received a Thunderlord at all. I've received the Crux the first week it started dropping and upgraded my Eidolon Ally to a Necrochasm. I've played over 1300 hours and I have still not received a Thunderlord which is the ONLY exotic I'm missing at the moment. I've received 4 Gjallys, 3/5 IBs (after about 1000 hours), 4/5 No Land Beyonds (Crota... Smh), 3 Red Death, 2/3 SUROS Regime, 3/4 Last Words (in 72 hours O.o), 3 Universal Remote, 1/2 Dragons Breath (received one like 2 hours after purchasing from Xur), 3 MIDA Multi-tool, 3/4 Patience and Time, 4/5 Plan C. A lot of exotics I noticed I received as a reward after I purchased from Xur. Similar to how I didn't start seeing Light armor and Lengendary armor for my warlock (my first character) until purchased some from a vendor. I don't think I'll start getting Thunderlords until I purchase one from Xur...
-
Player 3: Has all the exotics but one -wants gjallarhorn
-
Idk. For me, I don't get many duplicates thankfully. I have less than 400 hours and have everything except: Thunderlord Red death Hawkmoon But maybe those are the ones I'll never get.
-
This would piss me off beyond belief.
-
I believe there is some truth to this as well. I've even contemplated deleting one of my toons to see if my luck changes. I feel like one of my toons is predisposed to getting universal remote because I've got it like 5 times. I think my second toon is predisposed to getting the dragons breath because I've got it 4 times. And I think my third toon is predisposed to getting the mida because I've got that about 4 times. It may be a wacky theory, but there could be some truth to it.
-
All I really want is Hawkmoon since I basically have every "good" exotic.
-
I have a theory similar to yours, but I think once you get a certain weapon to drop it increases your odds of getting that weapon (thus making it less likely to get the ones you don't have). For example, I didn't get Thunderlord until a month after CE came out and I've been playing Destiny almost exclusively since day 1 (can't stand there being stuff that I don't have lol). But since I got Thunderlord it has dropped 3 additional times. Same thing happened with Universal Remote, I've gotten 5 since my first one dropped last month. I currently cannot Hunger of Crota or the chest piece for the hunter from CE and I have ran normal first on all 3 of characters since the dlc dropped. I've gotten every other raid weapon multiple times and the crux twice. I have also never gotten Hardlight (I am Xbox so PS4 exclusives are not yet available). Whatever the system is that they are using, it is designed for us to never get that one last thing (or 2, or 3) so we keep playing.
-
While this sounds like conspiracy theory nonsense, I have to say I've had the same suspicions. My buddy had Black Hammer and a full set of raid armor drop after Killing Crota only three times on Normal. But he hasn't had a whole lot else drop for him. I've had g-horn drop for me twice and had every raid primary after two HM Crota runs. I've had every other Crota weapon drop after just a few runs. What won't drop for me are the raid helmet and Black Hammer, even after 20+ Crota kills, several of which were on hard. Other people get them after every run. It does seem rigged ... And it's maddening.

Got everything. Void.

I have all 4... Theory debunked
