Most of us are blinded by the holiness of RNGsus. But I'm a sceptic and a non-believer, so I have a theory of why YOU wont get a certain weapon, but others will.
Now, we all think that it's all based on RNG, but I don't really think so. I do understand the concept of randomness, but I don't believe that's a fact in this concern.
I am gonna use two examples:
Player 1:
- has Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
- want Ice Breaker and SUROS
Player 2:
- has SUROS and Ice Breaker
- want Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
Player 1 and 2 keeps on grinding for their wanted weapons, but usually get random crap drops. And to top that, they get multiple drops of the exotics they already have. (like me, i've gotten 3 No Land Beyond from Crota)
And this is where my theory comes in...
Bungie has a system (fixed RNG), that basicly makes it (nearly) impossible for you to get the weapons you are missing. It's like your profile is assigned to certain weapons. Me, I get SUROS all the time.
So a simple example for this system would be:
"Drops assigned to Player 1: Thunderlord, Gjallarhorn etc" (these are the drops always handed out)
"Drops avoided for Player 1: Ice Breaker, SUROS, etc" ( these are the drops that might never happen)
(same with Player 2,3,4,5,6,7, infinity)
I know there are many RNGsus followers out there, and by all means, praise him! But me, I'm not fooled by this non-sense anymore. Just like anything else, Bungie likes to control the community, so they control RNG as well.
Yeah, I know, Bungie started selling Ice Breaker, which was hard to get for many of us. But that was also their decision. Why do you think it became available shortly after CE? To soothe the masses to keep them playing.
Conclusion: Players will always get the same drops, and will most likely never get that one thing they are missing (in my case Gjallarhorn).
Hope i made sense. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never been able to put a word to it. Maybe i wasn't able now either... I might be wrong, but I'm sure my points makes it clear enough.
*edit 1*
I see many say they have all Exotics, and asks me to explain that. Well, that's cause Bungie decided that your profile, amongst others, could. That's why.
*edit 2*
*sigh* This wasn't actually meant to be a post about weapons never dropping, cause they can. It's just that it is controlled by Bungie. Sure, some of you have played for 500 hours and finally gotten a certain weapon. But because the community is continously growing, Bungie decides to hand out X amount of, ie, GHs a day, but still manage to control the weapon flow.
*edit 3*
People seem to be believe I'm saying stuff never drops. If it says that somewhere in my post (I've tried to reword myself), that's not what I'm saying. Please, read my post over again, especially "edit 2".
*edit 4*
Well, I expected a lot of flaming since my so called theory is far fatched, flawed and simply crappy :P
I've tried my best to answer most posts I've seen fit. Thankfully most have been serious posts. Some not.
I am now going to get a beer and my whisky bottle, sit down, and play some Strikes. Will check in later to see if this is still alive.
Hopefully I will prove myself wrong and get GH tonight... hrhrhhr

Edited by A Cheese Potato: 2/20/2015 9:19:27 AMWell I have gotten 7 Last Words from ROC strikes, and no other exotics from them so it is quite suspicious at the very least.
-
Makes sense. I've gotten 3 Universal Remotes. 1 from 2nd or 3rd Iron Banner. 1 from Vault of Glass. 1 from Crucible or 4th Iron Banner. I've gotten 2 Red Deaths both from Vault. 2 Patience and Times. 1 from a purple and the other Crucible. 2 The Last Words. One from Xur the other from the Vault.

must not have a jellyhorn lool
-
Conclusion: rng sucks.

You might be onto something

Edited by Cuduni: 2/20/2015 4:28:01 AM7 hawkmoons 4 ice breakers All exotic weapons except 3. No gjally. I thought this very thing with one modification. The items rotate over a given time period, maybe monthly. Example... this month you have a higher chance to receive thunderlord and the next month it is ice breaker. Mine seem to come in phases. Right now I am in the icebreaker phase.
-
I got ghorn from a purple engram, suros from crucible and IB from atheon
-
I got thunderlord from a legendary engram. I need suros, hard light and ghorn.
-
Edited by CowboyKiller: 2/20/2015 3:18:41 AMI don't care for the moniker RNGsus, i've always thought it more of a RNGing or getting rng'ed like... the fictional character the cell mate Big Bubba forcing his will upon/in you....Its never how you want it and your always getting screwed against your will. I actually think the rng system was developed this way just to -blam!- with the destiny community so its easy to compair it to a R3PEing
-
I just need ghorn
-
I get hawkmoon, gjallarhorn, dragons breath and ice breaker all the time. I can't get suros, red death, monte carlo and 4th horseman.
-
This sounds like bullsh*t but my 7 Plan C's say otherwise
-
All I need is Suros, idk about this whole Fixed RNG since I've gotten most of my exotics from Drops. I'm just waiting for Xur to sell Suros
-
RNG sucks but to anyone other than the game designers have no idea how to explain the RNG if anyone has rooted proof on exactly how they set up RNG then I'd like to hear what you have to say... Other than that its all up to speculation...
-
Edited by LordofChaos: 2/20/2015 12:59:33 AMNo they do not go out and choose what drops each individual player gets....the more you have the less you need. Once you have certain weapons there is no need for the others, you just want them. Start a new toon with next to nothing have a team carry you through a raid.. and you will get more than farming that raid with a high level with everything.
-
Or maybe, just maybe, the chance of you getting the exact weapon you want is just extremely low. 22 droppable exotics on ps4, thats a 4.5% chance (if you are guaranteed an exotic, it's even lower when you factor in the chance of an exotic drop), assuming all the exotics are weighted equally, which i highly doubt they are. which is why people seem to be missing the same weapons (suros, gjallarhorn, red death, hard light) so the chances of those weapons dropping is even lower than that. Maybe luck just hasn't been on your side.
-
Me: have all 4 of those weapons c:<
-
But....I have all those weapons... Does that mean I'm Rngmoses?
-
I suspected the same…RNG is most likely a complex algorithm taking into account the myriad of data that Bungie collects on each player. And I'm sure there is a small little piece that is random hence the whole RNG story. Bungie has to do something to keep us engaged until the next DLC. A few may get the exotic they've been craving, but most of us will not. It's liking betting against the house, a few will win but overall the house always wins. Now back to the grind….gotta get that jelly.

Edited by sNiping pEte97: 2/20/2015 12:33:45 AMRNGESUS PRAYER Rahool is great Rahool is groot Let us thank him for our loot By his hands we all are erotic Give us lord our daily exotic ~Mr Fruit.
-
I think you're absolutely right. Most likely, each player's drops are controlled by a seed generated by their profile ID or some other unique number......meaning that certain people will be 'locked out' of certain weapons. It used to be Found Verdict, Hard Light, and Universal Remote for me (thankfully). They reset the seed sometime in December or January, and my drops completely changed, as did the drops of my friends.
-
If a conspiracy type life style works for you then go for it. I am a man of facts and reasonable doubt. Bungie has yet to give me a reason to not believe their word. So I believe when I am told it is RNG.
-
I have thunder lord
-
I agree with this to a certain degree ey. There's definitely more going on under the hood than simple rng
-
Well this is a crock of shit isn't it? I wanted thunderlord and got it. Have Ghorn, pretty much all the exotics I want. So shmeh.

..You..You literally just described RNG.
