..Just another completely worn out, apathetic, and mildly disappointed launch player here posting about how I'm pretty much done with Destiny.
Given I've logged over 400 hours now, and not going to complain about not getting my "money's worth", but let's face it.. this game is not what people like me wanted from it. It will slowly turn every player into a casual, whether you like it or not. Don't believe me? Go ahead and grind for countless hours to try to get ahead, explore more, improve your character... then tell me where it leaves you.
The game is fun. It's beautiful in many ways. Infinite amounts of promise to what it could be - or at least in the eyes of players like myself who were looking for the next BIG thing where they could go all-in and dedicate countless hours to raiding and journeying the stars. Sad that it just can't keep up.
I'll still be logging on for the occasional weekly activity with some friends. I still enjoy a little Crucible from time to time. The days of being able to play Destiny every day though? Over. I'm sure for many of you they are not, but take a lesson and make them last. There is no sense to burning through and worrying about needing every exotic with a childish level of impatience. The faster you have them all the faster you'll be where players like myself have ended up and see almost no purpose left in the game.

Edited by KashMC: 2/17/2015 6:55:34 PM
Go ahead and grind for countless hours to try to get ahead, explore more, improve your character... then tell me where it leaves you.
It leaves you where any game will leave you if your goal is to "get ahead." Where anything will leave you if that's your goal. Go commit yourself to "getting ahead" at school, at a job, at a hobby, it all turns out the same. You say "just another casual" like that's a bad thing, but when you get down to it, what makes someone a casual is that they play for the fun of it, not to be the best or "get ahead." They put effort into the game to get enjoyment out of it; they'll grind the Crucible because they want to get better or for an exotic bounty or because that's what their friends do, and they don't get upset over bad stats. They grind PvE to get better gear, not so that they can be better than everyone else but so that they can be better than they were before (or even just for a collection or something). The game - no game, no job, nothing - is about being "the best" or having all the stuff. At least, it shouldn't be. Plenty of people make it about that though, and that's who you always see downtrodden and disappointed while the rest of us are still laughing about a funny death in the Crucible or boasting about our admittedly mundane skills. All that said: welcome to Casualtown! We like it here and we hope you will too.

there are no casuals in WWII Russia
-
Same here didn't play since last Thursday went on tonight on the VoG on hard for a bit of fun with some friends and gotta admit enjoyed it much more
-
Over 1200 hrs. I would've quit a long time ago if it not for crucible.
-
I've logged 600 I'm nowhere near worn out
-
I find it irritating that I have to spend time at the tower on multiple guardians just to move my favorite to use weapons around for casual play, would be more easy and fun If I could skip over tower time If all im doing is making runs at the crucible/ strikes, or anything with friend, Not a fan of having to prepare for my fun....pretty sure a sharedd inventory would be less annoying for players... https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/102288071/0/0/1 kinda like that, no need to read if not want, just trying to get some attention, that aside, after I learned Destiny's bandwidth requirements (which I cannot find anywhere on the game case) I'm having a hard time enjoying it without worrying about going over my limit (if anyone asks I'm in a rural area, and this is the first game that has given me a scare based on how much "Data Usage" it consumes)

I'm there with you. I had a group of about a dozen friends and we had a weekly schedule. Tuesday was Nightfall/Weekly Heroic, Wednesday and Thursday were Raids. Friday - Monday were just daily heroics and bounties to level up. We also mopped up any 'big' events that we didn't get done at reset. Now it's really slowed down. Most of my group has moved on to other games. Very few of the 'old' guys are still online and many quit months ago. I still do the nightfalls and weeklys but for reasons that escape me. The hope of getting that Suros? I don't know. I couldn't sleep last night so I ran the nightfall 3x with a group of old buddies that had the same issues. Run 1: 11 ascendant energy (WTF??) Run 2: The Coiled Hiss marshmallow cannon (WTF??) Run 3: 12 ascendant shards (WTF??) Why? I could get the 27 coins but....why? What's the point. Xur hasn't had much to offer since the DLC hit other than icebreaker (which was quite nice I grudgingly admit...) I could do VoG just to kill time I suppose, I actually stand to gain from the CE raid but it just SUCKS. I absolutely cannot stand the CE raid. I only need the warlock helm, warlock chest, hunter helm, word of crota, and the crux and I've got everything that raid has to offer but I just don't care anymore. The amount of suffering required isn't worth the tiny chance of getting what I need.

Games are supposed to be casual. It'll be a sad day indeed if I ever think of myself as anything other than a casual...
-
Hopefully HoW should change things. Hopefully.

Every game is like this blah blah... It was supposed to be an on going saga spanning some 10 years. I hear ya, i have hardly touched it or weeks. Loved it right upto the launch of the dlc and the shattered it promised. There playing the same fiddle. Monkey

Cool story bro. Hey... did you know that every game is like that? Did you know that every game eventually becomes a little boring? Yeah. We don't care. But thanks for sharing.

Right there with you. I just help out people when I can.

To be completely honest every game he's like this. You'll get bored of them after being the top guy or unlocking everything. The way I see it is who you play with. I could play any game forever as long as I have cool people to play with. Having a good group of real friends or online friends to game with can make a game much better, even if you're losing and getting your ass kicked. It's all how you choose to look at it.

This game is shit just quit its the best decision ive ever made
-
Once u do everything help others or try crazy stuff that makes it fun beat it on hard running the sword collect all exotics weapons and armors
-
When people stop playing the game, why do they feel the need to tell us? We don't care
-
I took a 2 month break from destiny before the dark below was released. I just came back to it last week and im enjoying it again. But i feel once I get to 32 and beat crota on hard. Ill run out of steam. I wish bungie would add new content monthly rather than every 3 months. That would keep me engaged.
-
I'm pretty much where you're at. I've almost reached rank 4 with Eris, and after that I'll probably return to playing once a week.
-
It's all about what you make it bro. I've been making a checklist of gear, and pretty much have no reason to even play for loot anymore. I was feeling the same way you are, the other day. But i've realized that I have a lot of fun with my friends, just bullshitting and helping them do things. I can't believe some of the stupid crap we've spent hours laughing histerically at. If you have a lot of friends that play, the game is much more fun. As long as they aren't the type to sit around and complain about the game, especially when you're still having fun (despite not "needing" to do anything).
-
Only 400 hours and getting bummed out? Well it was a good run for you. I'm pushing close to 800 or so and I'm still going strong. Just don't have as much free time.
