I think the gardener probably refers to an entity that controlled the Black Garden before the Darkness took it and subjugated the Vex.

    In the context of the soliloquy the traveller seems far more apt. The traveller groomed humanity, allowed it to flourish for hundreds of years and then sacrificed itself to protect it. Rasputin was designed to defend us. Decided that it was either us or him and at the same time the traveller made its sacrifice, turned his back on us.

  • Good point, but whenever someone mentions a "garden" in destiny, it always refers to the black garden.
