To those who contributed to the discussion positively or negatively, thank you. I chose to remove the original post because...well...my point was proven. In just the few responses garnered over the 3 or so hours this post existed, the point was painstakingly proven. This isn't the 1st forum I posted it, as I was conducting a bit of a social experiment. If you're interested in seeing the post as a whole, message me and I'll send you a link to one of the ongoing discussions on other forums. This thread can be closed.

Maybe they don't like you
didn't read the original text. I'm also board. I get a little bit snappy when I'm board
Edited by Britton: 2/15/2015 9:24:32 AMI agree. I'm 25, and I literally can't bring up a subject that requires an intelligent response with any of my coworkers without being looked at like I have a dick growing out of my forehead, or getting the response "don't know, don't care". Its not only frustrating, but upsetting that nobody I know my age wants to discuss philosophy, how crazy quantum mechanics is, bounce around the big questions, discuss politics (they can't answer a question about politics but they can somehow affiliate with a political party), or just literally anything worth thought. So I agree entirely.
the saddest thing is that posts that actually have an intelligent opinion like this one are why I come here.
OR, perhaps people don't truly care because this is where they seek entertainment; not a lecture. Especially one that deems them intellectually inferior to you and your generation.

Edited by OFWG RADICALS: 2/15/2015 9:02:20 AMYou graduated with a 4.0 GPA! GG but your time is past, so get on with your life. Get off bnet if you can't handle new generations;were assholes deal with it. You're probably an asshole too, join the -blam!-ing club. (Don't worry I proofread my post so my grammar is to par with your oozing intellect)

Edited by arf1049: 2/15/2015 8:54:21 AMBeing 17 I will have to agree with this and I can genuinely take a notice of the difference. As I only started really using computers for anything around 8th grade. I used them when I was younger but was never around one to always search stuff so naturally I read, and learned a lot about well everything. I am not incredibly gifted in the knowledge of one thing because when I had access to these books I was younger and thus the books were simpler. So I read and broadened my horizons. I can tell you rather useless facts and names on... Reptiles and amphibians Dinosaurs Astronomy Geology Archeology Anatomy Meteorology (used to place bets on storms) Physical sciences Calvin and Hobbes (loved these two) Military Aircraft. Lasers and light behavior. And some pseudo-sciences A Myriad of other useless facts as well. But the simple transition of people quickly googling something and repeating a fact then forgetting it is the most common way to obtain information nowadays and it affects everyone with a phone or tablet or laptop and whatever.

Edited by Tuxx: 2/15/2015 8:35:21 AMI don't see any legitimate data in this post. There are plenty of sociological and psychological reasons to be explored here, and I see nothing of the sort here. I'll just let myself out.

How do you know the majority of users?
-
In a world where money lenders rule, religious fanatics push delusional agendas U mad cause people would rather watch porn then get self educated on the net Forced education is also a form of pedagogy , so It should be held accountable for what kind of people it has produced, more so then the net People always choose entertainment over education, why you suprised? #-blam!-punctuation #-blam!-english #confortmakespeoplenotgiveafak The lack of logic is a bigger problem then the lack of grammar of education

The more tools at our disposal, the more lazy we become. Why do you think people fear AGI? It is because people will be so lazy that the AI will deem them no longer necessary.
-
Well you also have to remember that not ALL of the people in the age group are like this. To prove my point? I'm turning 14 this year and not one grammar error in this post, not one defensive "HEY YOU ARE WRONG AND I'M RIGHT!" In this post, not one idiotic remark or TL;DR. I prove my point by calmy taking my opinion into the public eye. Some of us actually paid attention to school, some didn't(okay, a LOT didn't..) but that doesn't mean that we should all be grouped together as one. We, the smart minority, shouldn't be mixed in with the flood of idiots.

I read your whole argument through and I agree. I feel like I don't quite fit into that category though just because I have more of a realistic outlook on life and am also more creative. I think the contributing factor is simply ease of feedback that reinforces stupidity and ignorance. It is the time where replying to an intellectual post with a stupid joke/insult will get more "likes" or upvotes than the actual post. I would also like to remind you that correlation does not equal causation. There are many cultural factors that play into the intelligence of this generation of people.

May or may not be the right place. I vote "may not".

tl:dr. I'll go ahead and assume two things tho. #1 you have too much time on your hands. #2 this is the wrong place

Well said.

This is one of the best post's I have seen on here. Sometimes the truth hurts.
