Robotics are advancing at a wonderfully fascinating rate and I'm so excited to see what the future holds for us
One robot that's been a bit of a hot topic lately is Spot. In 2008 footage of Big Dog was released, a bulkier less advanced version of Spot. Today we can see how complex the robot dog is. Able to handle rugged terrain and even being bodily kicked down.

Some amazing things that I hope to come from Spot, in hopes that it's not hoarded for military use, is helping the disabled. Perhaps it can carry groceries or lead the blind. It could be programmed with AI that allows it to guide civilians in cities when they're lost or direct people at train stations/air ports. The possibilities are endless. That's just me spit balling though.
Other cool robots:

and lastly

though the last isn't robotics it's still really -blam!-in cool man

I'm so going to make one of those when I graduate.
-
Still my number 1 robot.
-
-
Made my day. Epic.

Boston dynamics are getting good funding from what I hear. Still though, if the military end up using them to carry loads, it's still a long way off being as good as a donkey.

You know what's weird... I just watched Gone Girl the other day and in it, the main character "bought" a robot dog. I don't know I just thought that was weird that it was in a movie and then the next day I see this stuff.
-
I want one
-
I can't wait to tip it over
-
-
And I was just watching The Terminator...
-
~.~ seems like a waste of money. Why not help actual dogs in need
-
I'm scared
-
Only a matter of time until the robots enslave humanity

What's that song from the beginning of Apocalypse Now? I think it'd be appropriate here.

Edited by Relatively Quiet: 2/15/2015 3:19:59 AMThey're coming to take all the sexy singles away! But really. It is a super cool field that's growing fast. I can't even begin to imagine what things will be like when I'm 60 or 70 at the rate technology is moving. Did you know just a little while back there was a breakthrough in motorized nanomachines that had self propulsion systems?
