I'm pretty sure they were hard enought to find as it was before you made them near impossible to find :(
I only need 42 to upgrade all my legendary gear and another 16 before i can rank up my extotic helm, pretty sure I'll get bored before that :(

When you are running missions or bounties just check it and see if any events are nearby and coming up soon. I do about 5 public events a day and have a couple hundred spare ascendent materials in the vault. Btw they almost always show up 2-5 minutes after the timer hits 0.
