Let me start of by saying that I'm no lore nerd and all of this could have been went over by somebody else but Im yet to see a thread or video that has thought of this, So if your going to hate and instead of kindly telling me then -blam!- you :D
So basically I thought of this theory while patroling and kicking alien ass quite some time ago, So while headshotting Cabal and Fallen enemies their heads will sort of implode and a dark soul-like mist will rush out from their heads. After this I got curious and thought to myself its no coincidence that the two "known to be evil" races didn't have this darkness rush out of them when killed but the two races that have been thought of to be possessed or controlled do! So after some digging around I found this image...
http://www.destinyoverwatch.com/attachments/destiny-races-png.27/
This is an Image of 5 destiny races. The first four are obviously Vex, Fallen, Hive and Cabal but the 5th one is not very obvious or known (To me at least ;P) But I do have to say that Im really drawn to the fact that the dark smoke-like part of the drawing/painting looks an awful lot like the soul that spews from the heads of dead or should I say 'cleansed' Fallen and Cabal enemies.
Basically I think that The darkness is a being/race and possesses victims of the traveller, this theory explains the fifth race we see in that concept art and the random animation that the Fallen and cabal share when shot in the head. To me this thory seemed quite obvious but as said im no lore nerd and this could be really stupid. Feel free to comment what you think and if you agree or disagree with me :)
Also if anyone could take any pics of the dark smoke/soul stuff that you see when headshotting these enemies so I can apply them to the OP for all to see that would be great!

Edited by Ethsentray: 2/16/2015 1:06:53 PMThere is also a Hive with its "soul" escaping in that concept. Concept art is concept art. I personally think Fallen are Synthetic lifeforms and the mist is an essence that brings their body to life, though Bungie has stated in the past that it is "technically" the gases of their native planet escaping their suit. If you are really interested you should read the Grimoire cards, I think they explain the Cabal. As for the 5th race, Bungie has said little about them and they will probably be the main campaign theme for Destiny 2, Destiny one + DLC explains the world, Destiny 2 adds the aforementioned conflict. (They have concept art in the installation screen, so don't even try to tell me they are a dropped concept.)
"Sence"? Really?
The grimoire says that what comes out of the fallen is the trapped soul and ether. The fallen themselves are husks filled with the souls of fallen enemies. Hence their name.

Edited by Zeldafan92: 2/15/2015 1:31:43 AMthe fallen when they get headshotted well what we see is ether escaping their body , although it appears their soul is leaving the body. the cabal on the other hand hail from a world with a different air pressure in environment I believe , the shooting of their heads in addition to the damage done allows the unpressurized air in and explodes their heads . has nothing to do with the darkness
-
It's called ether. It's what the servitors give, that's why they need them around.

Cant believe we are hitting 200 votes!!!!

Well if this game had any resemblance of a story we would probably know some of these things. Of course the shooting and blowing shit up makes up for it!
-
Still can't get over "sence."

He's called the Traveler for a reason. He's not necessarily evil, but his actions cause them. The traveler has the power to literally terraform planets and give it's inhabitants "supernatural" powers. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Because he can do this, the consequence is THE DARKNESS (like anti-matter) That 5th race? It's going to be us humans if we fail (or Exo or awoken)
-
Edited by Warlon: 2/14/2015 11:00:53 PMI always thought that the stuff leaving the cabal was some kind of air that they breathe, and the stuff leaving the fallen was Ether

Another conspiracy!

I clicked you're an idiot option, but I didn't actually read the post because I've been drinking. Sorry!
-
Really I think that the travler is the darkness, it gave us similar abilities to the darkness, when it came, it brought the enemies with it, the light inhabits our bodies letting us fight, and the black garden grimoire has a ghost call the guardians evil, saying that the light we use is evil, ect. We are the darkness, and the speakers puppets

Noooice!

Humans. Fifth race. Humans.

I am kind of a lore fanatic myself and have read many different theories of the Darkness. One is that the Cabal are just some military race trying to take over our solar system, the Vex are exos corrupted by the black heart, the hive are literally the darkness, and the fallen are a race the Traveler "enlightened" but then left and they think we stole it from them. Of course these are just speculation

Is there a way to edit the poll guys?

Sence...I word don't know this what means and stuff.

Edited by uhbito: 2/14/2015 8:58:00 AMWhen you shoot a fallens head off its ether/their soul escaping. Captains have the most ether and the servitors supply the ether. Thats why you see them gathered around Sepiks Prime. When you shoot a cabal its the fuel for their jetpack stuff that comes out, which is why when you go on their ships its on the floor and what not. They are not evil like the vex or hive imo. Fallen are just scavengers and the Cabal are just a military going through the galaxy. I believe the Hive are the real army of the darkness and the Vex just want to destroy everything or they were corrupted by the darkness and started worshipping it like they were doing with that ball of darkness ( the heart ) in the black garden. But good theory man
-
This could be partly true because if the fallen were pure darkness they'd attack everything! Not team up with the queen a type of human...
-
When you headshot a Fallen that is their soul escaping their bodies. When you headshot a Cabal that is dark oil spewing from their livery.
-
fallen death = ether ether required for fallen to live servitors supposedly provide this ether
