Recently, Activision announced in their earnings report that Destiny has 16 million registered users. They won't say how many copies have been sold to date, but let's assume best case scenario is 16 million copies across all 4 systems.
I remember when game companies took pride in their success and actually gave sales numbers and not just earnings. It got me wondering, why are they keeping the numbers so secret?
We all know Sony paid the big bucks to have what they assumed would be the next Halo on their system after Bungie's ugly divorce with Microsoft. I think Activision was smart enough to know most Halo fans wouldn't jump ship no matter what, so they settled for a year of exclusive content.
I think after this year of exclusivity is up, Activision's greed would make them want to continue taking advantage of Sony's blank checks. What if the majority of Destiny copies sold are on Xbox systems? How would that affect contract discussions with Sony? We already know Microsoft isn't willing to shell out the big bucks for this game...at least back then they weren't.
I'm a diehard Xbox/Halo/Bungie fan and I love Destiny. I try to play this game at least daily since launch, and I wish there was no Sony exclusive content. I personally believe Destiny on Xbox is outselling it on PS, but damnit I want to see the proof! I think it would please Xbox owners to know that even though we were "betrayed" we still show our loyalty to a great game company.
