I had a segment about this on my thread "Terrible Exotics" but the thread is dying and the Necro review itself got little attention.
So, I'll reiterate it here for the community to swallow in one bite, rather than the brick wall of reviews and suggestions in my old thread. I'll leave out the exposition and rationale because it seems the people just want a buff, period, so I'll cut to the chase.
1) Replace Single Point Sling with Field Scout. That's a hard choice between it and Fitted Stock, but both are useful, where Fitted Stock is the literal only option currently.
2) Improve inherent reload speed slightly.
3) Cursebringer needs to work very differently than being Firefly but only sometimes. My proposed change is as follows:
Each hit with the weapon would apply a stack of a "curse" status effect. Stacks decay after half a second. At 10 stacks, the target becomes poisoned much like Mark of the Devourer. Poisoned targets trigger thrall explosions on death. Now there is no RNG on the explosions, and overall DPS gets buffed without being overbearing in the crucible.
4) Raise its Attack up to around 360-365. The Mythoclast's +23 to 300 was an ~8% boost. The Necro's current +8 to 331 is a ~2% boost. A 10% boost isn't unreasonable, especially given the weapon's middling performance despite what a spreadsheet would suggest.
It's obvious this weapon does not feel exotic to its owners, when it should feel more exotic than any other. This is a weapon we were supposed to have found and nurtured until it grew into something marvelously rare and exclusive, from slaying countless Hive, to bounty grinding, to finally overcoming the most challenging trial in the current game state... multiple times.
It's time it started acting like it.
EDIT: Possibly in addition to the buffs described, an almost purely PvE-oriented buff I considered was a tertiary upgrade unlocked in tandem with the second Attack boost, where the Disruptor upgrades feature on raid legendaries.
Crota's Bane: The Hive see your might, and tremble.
Combines the effects of the Raid primaries into one fun-filled package. Itemized:
-Increased damage to Hive Majors.
-Projectiles have a chance to disorient Hive Wizards.
-Enemies hit by this weapon are briefly highlighted.
-Projectiles will overpenetrate through Hive Knight Wall of Darkness.
-Rapidly landing three precision hits returns one round to the magazine.
-
I like the idea of Crota's Bane. Bump, please.
-
Still got ally & a crux because it just isn't worth levelling up into necro
-
Surprise Surprise!!! The Necro is the Best Weapon for Level 35 PoE against the Pilot Servitor! Give it a try ;)
-
Best idea I have seen in regards to this is; keep everything the same but make the fired rounds act like the halo needeler.

Edited by Sieges33: 4/16/2015 4:16:26 PMYou know how they said that when fully upgraded black hammer doesn't have a yellow border because the weapon isn't "finished" (they need to figure out how to make hive disruptor work with white nail). Well necrochasm is fully upgraded the second you use the crux but still no yellow border.....is this because the weapon isn't finished?

Interesting idea for the stack effect. Please check out this weapon balancing article and give feedback. It's a good read, thanks. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/117004290/0/0

I might actually use mine if it had your Crota's bane idea. Bump.

Step 1 for me would be to finally get a Crux, so I can experience the gun in its current, milquetoast form. 2 more hard Crota kills last night and no such luck. This all makes a lot of sense, based on what friends have said about it. The gun in theory had everything going for it to make it the most exotic of the exotic weapons. The randomness of the Husk drop, plus the multi-step process to upgrade/convert it, and like you said, the final step requiring beating the most difficult content in the game. It only makes sense that the gun should be superior in almost every way, when you consider how rare it is in the first place. Personally, I don't mind one weapon being really overpowered, if it remains exceedingly difficult to get. I still hope to get one, and I hope Bungie would look at your suggestions as a starting point for a real re-tooling of the gun.

Came here to start my own topic but I like your suggestions, especially the Crota's Bane idea. Necrochasm is a tough weapon to balance, given too much of a buff it would dominate in PvP. It's already pretty strong there. It's PvE where this gun really suffers, it's outclassed by every other raid primary, even the legendary of it's archtype Atheon's Epilogue.

Nice ideas
-
Bump and fix the necrochasm already! What's the problem bungie, they need to adress the real issues instead of changing a goofy ball that glows. Lol. Priorities all screwed up!
-
Hover over, hold square, fixed. "X found an exotic shard"

Edited by Wolfishhat8131: 4/20/2015 6:00:27 PMThe more I look at Necrochasm the more it looks like a pulse rifle -the stats, abilities, even the equip icon all suggest it was a suros-type pulse rifle for most of its development. I think it would feel much more on the level and effective if it was changed into a pulse rifle and had the 3x headshot damage modifier. Thoughts?

Bump......not preordering HoW till this gun is massively fixed, Bungie!
-
HOW TO FIX NECROCHASM! Make black hammer the raid exotic. It's more deserving.
-
I think they are going to Buff it, but this time why take so long, last time Exotic retune is around 3 month after game relase. It almost 6 month now, they should review all exotic. Like No land, 4Th, Dragon, and Necrotrash.
-
String of curses More impact Firefly
-
Alright do that and give this guy a job at bungie! We need this man workin on this game "right Stat now!"
-
-
Buff this gun!

Edited by Pninja95: 4/20/2015 4:42:59 AMBump, this is the hardest exotics to get in the game this thing needs a good buffing

-
It's already op as hell. Nothing can compete with it right now.too good IMO
-
Agree that something needs to change.... This gun should be '-blam!- yeah' not 'WTF?!'
-
No you see what bungie will do is make it fire faster.
